MARGOT ROBBIE Madame Figaro (2019)
just a heads up, if i ever weird you out on any level, too friendly, too flirty, anything at all, i encourage you to be very vocal towards me about it to make sure i dont continue to make you uncomfortable. i dont want anyone feeling like im not someone they can trust and be comfortable around.
Normalize vocalizing discomfort.
Last weekend, a guy that at that point Iâd known for about 24 hours called me âdarlingâ. I could tell he didnât mean anything by it, but I (politely) asked that he not do that because I donât like it. He looked surprised and got a little defensive - âoh, I call all my friends that!â âOkay, well Iâd still rather you didnâtâ âoh well harumph harumph sorryâ
whereas the exchange should have gone
âblah blah blah, darlingâ
âoh please donât call me that, I donât care for thatâ
âoh Iâm sorry, I wonât do thatâ CONTINUE CONVERSATION

Yep yep yep. Iâve literally had people give me weird looks because I correct them when they try to shorten my name. My own family members donât call me by any nickname.
Have I already told the person this thing? Have I only thought about telling them? Have I only dreamt about telling them? Or am I going to tell them and find out I already told them 3 times before?
If every working-class person in the world decided this afternoon to install solar panels on their roofs and started biking instead of driving, the ice caps would still melt and the human race would still die off. It simply isnât possible to end climate change while working within a system that sends all your products overseas in massive supertankers wrapped in unrecycled plastic that will be thrown in a landfill the moment it hits land - and practices like that arenât going to go away because of your purchasing habits.
Nor are we gonna hit some magical point where using clean energy and reducing waste are suddenly the cheapest or most profitable option and so all the worldâs big companies fall over each other to switch over. That has never been the case and never will be - the âfree marketâ isnât going to save us.
The fact of the matter is, this system needs to be torn down if our species is to survive. We donât have time to delay the revolution anymore. Capitalism is extinction.Â
The man holding this #BlackLivesMatter sign is Richmond (CA) police chief Chris Magnus, whose department has not lost an officer or killed a citizen since 2007, the year after he took over. This is not an accident, this peacefulness is the direct result of his leadership. Police departments across the country should be looking to his department as an example to be followed.
âChief Magnus changed the department from one that focused on âimpact teamsâ of officers who roamed rough neighborhoods looking to make arrests to one that required all officers to adopt a âcommunity policingâ model, which emphasizes relationship building.
âWe had generations of families raised to hate and fear the Richmond police, and a lot of that was the result of our style of policing in the past. It took us a long time to turn that around, and weâre seeing the fruits of that now. There is a mutual respect now, and some mutual compassion.ââ
the interview is pretty awesome if you want to watch it:Â https://www.yahoo.com/news/richmond-california-police-chief-chris-magnus-talks-community-policing-in-katie-couric-interview-044448393.html?ref=gs
They also do regular officer trainings with roleplay scenarios and airsoft guns to teach them how to de-escalate, how to avoid firing when fired upon, and how to deal with people with weapons in a way that doesnât end with a shootout.
They also apparently go through the details of officer-involved shootings elsewhere, picking them apart and using them as teaching tools for what NOT to do or what the officer could have done to avoid shooting the person.
Essentially, they take a proactive approach to not shooting people and put time, money, and effort into it. Richmond isnât a low-crime area. Other cities could follow their model and almost certainly see results.
Whoâd have thought it would take so much work to learn how to just ⊠NOT shoot people
These are the sort of police officers who deserve respect. The ones who take the time to build a relationship with the community theyâre supposed to be protecting, and work to actually protect people instead of just shooting anyone who looked scary.
In before anyone tries to say that the only reason this works is because Richmond is probably like ânot as badâ as other places in the US
I grew up here. Iâm close to Richmond. It used to be one of the most dangerous cities in America. Literally. In 2006 it was #11 in the Most Dangerous Cities in America.Â
Now? It doesnât even break the top 100.
What changed? This guy became police chief in 2007.
ITâS SO FUCKING WEIRD HOW THAT WORKS! *looks pointedly at every other police force in America*
Me holding back tears : letâs get this money
