I have a relatively large vocabulary and rather than try to baby talk my students if I catch myself using a large word I usually throw in a quick synonym to connect the words and move on.

Yesterday I said ”I will keep you apprised, which means updated,” and moved on.

A couple minutes later one of the littles raised her hand and was like “so when do we get our prize?” She has this goofy little grin and said “:) you said you’re keeping us a prize.”

It was not confusion. It was just a pun. Hope she remembers the word “apprise“ forever.
