the game awards is such a funny event, theres no amount of expectation-tempering that can make it any good. like it gets framed & reported on as a counterpart to the oscars (which i suppose is accurate insofar as the noms are broadly tasteless, narrow-minded, & disagreeable) but the like continued enmeshment of games as a medium with like marketing identity means that this Most Prestigious Event On The Gaming Calendar is first & foremost a vehicle for trailers, like they turn this theatre into a giant gamer chair & then hosts in ill-fitting blazers stand on stage & say "games are such an important medium driving crucial social change" & then they run an ad for mobile slop crusader kings fortnite party deluxe. half the awards are crammed into lifeless 30-second speed-reads to make more time for gacha game character reveals. but the really juicy bit is the abyss of self-reference, like so many of those ads are about like, Video Games In General. references & clips from a bunch of different games in an ad that boils down to "isnt Being A Gamer so fun & epic?", like the notion itself of high-profile video games Existing is the thing being celebrated. & then of course the next step is like, the game awards talking about itself, making overtures about its own existence. every time they point the camera at the bombastic oboe guy i feel like theyre begging me to clip it & post it on twitter

This entire two series arc has been building up to the statement that women should be mothers, and would be so much happier if they were mothers. Whether they want it or not. When it happens they’ll realise it’s what they wanted the whole time. It’s gross and I think one of the most misogynistic plots from a modern show I’ve seen.
