i get what prev is saying but also, in general, consider: there is no appropriate time to send death threats or suicide bait. not for fandom bullshit, not for politics, not if you're literally at war
(if you are literally at war, why would you let the enemy know you're coming? that's bad opsec.)
it is, how can i put this, not normal to feel so much hatred for people you want them to die in normal life situations? (if you are having a lot of life situations where you're so angry you want to kill somebody, your life may not be fully normal.) even if you do, it's creeper shit to anonymously tell them so. Society runs on the civility of not telling people your worst thoughts, even online people you have not met in person.
like. the situation that results in this stuff: you have strong, negative emotions you want to throw at somebody apparently, is why so many(??) tumblr users send these types of messages. You need to learn to do something else with your emotions. You have got to stop treating human beings like toilets for your shit just because it's online and a blog doesn't look like a person to you. If something someone said online has made you so angry that you want to send them death threats, here's what you should consider doing instead:
block them/mute them (for real. people are so precious about blocking like it's a deadly insult or something. whatever. hit that block button, if someone makes you that mad then they're not worth your time!)
step away from the internet for a minute and try to do something physical? deep breaths, stretches, crafting, have a drink or water or a snack and re-evaluate how you feel
ask a friend if you can vent about something that upset you or talk to your therapist about it, if you have one
ask yourself if you have other stressors in your life that are maybe making this seem worse than it is (not always the case, but)
think about whether the platform you're on or the way you're using it is feeding you ragebait for engagement. do you enjoy your browsing and scrolling or do you see things that make you furious a lot? Is there a way to cut down how much you see things that infuriate you?
write something rational and maybe even informational about the topic. if you like what you wrote, post that. unlike a threatening message, this has the potential to counter whatever you disagreed with so vehemently by putting out an alternate viewpoint
and if you're so angry none of that slows you down, please consider: anonymous messages on tumblr aren't really anonymous; if the receiver reports the ask to tumblr support, support knows whose account that is. You could get your account suspended. you could even get law enforcement on your doorstep, because did you know, death threats are illegal? Is sending this vitriol online worth consequences coming back on you offline?
and like. there aren't exceptions. there are no exceptions that make it okay to send anonymous death threats or suicide bait. no matter what godawful thing the person said, there's no situation where it does anything useful, it's not gonna change their mind or anything, all it is is you screaming out your bad feelings, you should do something else with that. We could be talking about the meanest most nasty bigot who thinks people like you should be shot, so arguably they started it. You still don't send them an anonymous death threat. You can point out their bigotry and wrongheadedness, if you can stomach that kind of argument. You can report them for posting abuse if it's actually that bad. You should definitely block them! But you don't send death threats or suicide bait, because no matter who the other person is, YOU'RE still a decent human being, right?
