the american south is the most racially diverse and poorest region of the united states, and any political sentiment that treats the south is stupid or expendable is inherently racist and classist. a lot of y'all are racist and classist. the south is also the heart of american culture. argue with a wall. you cannot deny that everybody in the entire world does not emulate artists from atlanta. there is vested interest in keeping the south poor and uneducated BECAUSE this is the most racially diverse region in this country. if you actually give a fuck about progress, you would fight for the south, not mock us.

Vincent didn’t mean to fall in love with you. Really, he didn’t. He just saw you one day, you and your friends stumbling through Ambrose like little guppies following the seductive light of an anglerfish. You, though, you stopped his heart dead in his chest and sent his head into a cacophony of need want love mine NEED. 

So he followed you, as silent and devoted as your own shadow. Watching. Waiting. Adoring. Cataloguing every detail of you- how you walked, how you laughed, how your eyes sparkled and your skin glistened in the Louisiana heat. Every little morsel of information swallowed greedily by glinting eyes. His fingers twitched by his sides, grasping at nothing but imagining your skin under his skilled, scarred hands.

But then the jaws of the town snapped shut around you. Bo with his gun and him with his knife and the tang of iron and paraffin in the air. The chase. The hunt. Courtship.

So now he winces as the needle pricks his skin, over and over, pulling a burning thread and stitching into him something that will keep you with him forever. The small scrap of cotton is mottled red now- dyed a rusty maroon with his blood and yours. A small piece of your shirt, torn in the chase and clutched in his shaking hand.

His hands never shook before you, but they tremble now. They tremor with every muffled whimper and sob from the corner of his workshop where you’re bound.

The stitching isn’t neat, nothing his father would approve of, but it’s deep- inextricable. To remove it would be to tear out his heart. He clenches his teeth and sews the fabric right over where his chest beats for you. 

He hopes you like it, when he finally takes your blindfold off- it’s much more permanent than a ring, after all.

(Heavily inspired by Manon des Sources, has anyone else seen that movie? Just me? Okay)
