Just an FYI—the original intention of this post was to challenge the way people say only friends, as though friendship is somehow lesser than other forms of love. came across Thor: Tales of Asgard (2011) again recently and. Goddamn if i wouldn't trade both seasons of Loki for an animated series about Thor and Loki's childhood in the golden age of Asgard in a heartbeat.

Loki in Thor: Tales of Asgard, a direct to DVD Marvel animated film. (Not to be confused with the Thor graphic novel of the same name.) Released on May 17, 2011 and distributed by Starz Entertainment and Lionsgate Home Entertainment. It first began production in 2009, but the release date was halted to line up with the release of the MCU's Thor (2011). Loki was voiced by Rick Gomez. Thor and Loki have a much closer relationship in this film than they do in most media, and it was nice to see them actually act like brothers for a change.

I've noticed that MCU!Thor actually lies to his friends/allies pretty frequently, twisting the truth/words to present a narrative that works in his favor, even in the situations when it seems useless/unnecessary, and, honestly, Odin is very abusive, it makes sense that his kids know how to lie their way out of trouble.

So, Thor has very little empathy for others. Pertaining to the Waititi films, Thor has no understanding and barely any awareness of the feelings of others. When Hulk talks about how he's hated and always feels angry, all Thor can do is center him. He has to be the most in the situation; the idea of him has to be what he wants it to be. There is no reason to lie to Bruce and backhandedly tell him he likes him and not Hulk. All Thor needs to do is give Bruce context and tell him his priorities. Thor doesn't care about Bruce or what he's been through, he care about himself and how others perceive him.

Thor is manipulative because he doesn't want to admit his shortcomings or his failures, and he won't accept that he is not owed. Thor constantly frames things so others are obligated to do what he wants.

Valkyrie doesn't owe Asgard anything; not only do all her fellows die serving Asgard, but Odin erased what happened to them. Thor pivots to revenge only when Valkyrie make clear that is her reason for joining Thor. There is no reason for Thor to try to appeal to Valkyrie at this point, she's already agreeing to help, but Thor has to make himself feel like he's in the center.

He also does similar things in the previous movies, for example, asking Loki in private "who controls the would-be king", letting us know he suspects something, then turning to the avengers and saying that Loki attacked them because he wanted to hurt him, because Midgard is his favorite realm. Which. He had no reason to do, unless he wanted to distance himself from someone they disliked, to look good in their eyes. (Which he proceeds to do once again in the "adopted" scene). Even most of his initial character development was largely caused by him wanting to be liked by Jane, and he abandons most of these morals he learned in T1 the moment she breaks up with him. Etc.

Like, he has to be perceived as the best, all the time, and this is so golden child of him.

No seriously T1 had a horse for almost every single major asgardian character, where are the horses in all of the later movies???

After a long talk with myself at 3 a.m. I came to conclusion that, as the Bifrost was destroyed in between T1 and TDW, cutting transportation to the other worlds, and Asgard itself seems to be a rock with barely anything but a city on it, they may have, in fact, eaten their horses.

The characters of Thor and Loki only work in the MCU because they fundamentally belong to a different genre than everyone else. The plot of the Avengers happens because Loki, part of Thors world, bleeds into the "real" world and completely overwhelms everyone. In the Avengers scene where Thor and Loki are alone together and they start conversing in Shakespearean, for six minutes the movies genre changes and we're stuck in the opera. That's the ONLY way those two should be written as far as I'm concerned and any attempts to characterize them by fitting them into the rest of the MCU "genre" fundamentally misunderstands not only their characters but the functions they serve.

Call the Branagh movies "boring" all you want, but there's a reason the first two Thor movies were directed by a man whose main strengths were pretentious, melodramatic Shakespeare film adaptations
