i’m currently studying to become an animation artist, and this is my graduation year. i’m working on an adaptation of the Western True Grit by Charles Portis.

i try hard not to get attached to fandoms, but i’m not very successful at it—so right now i’m into RDR2, Doctor Who, Assassin’s Creed, and a million other pieces of media i might end up loving.

In canon, Javier’s mother and sister are mentioned, and I love him and everything connected to him so much that I ended up making up names and appearances for them just for fun

Gloria (his sister) makes me a little sad because her entire canon characterization basically amounts to “she lived her life and got married.” I figured that if the injustice suffered by Javier’s family played a role in shaping him into a revolutionary, then his sister could very well have become a revolutionary too.

As for their mother, Margarita, all I can say for now is that she’s an absolute slay. Even though she comes from a humble background, she still wants to look stylish, so her son clearly takes after her. The bracelet Gloria is wearing was actually a gift from their mother.

When art block hits, you end up in the weirdest places. Like drawing on actual paper.

saw a post on insta talking about how Javier's emo bangs also lines up with hiding his facial scars (similar to how he always covers his neck in public facing outfits) and oooooooo god he's so vain, but also so much to think there.

Why does he want to cover them up? Does he think they are ugly? He talks favorably to John about his scar, wanting him to feel better about having it, either b/c he genuinely feels that way or he just wants John to not feel upset b/c Javier felt similarly with his scars. Does he think they taint his image of wanting to look like a noble, honorable freedom fighter? That they make him scary and undignified? Reminds me how he wears his fancy clothing, yet underneath those gold toed boots he still has socks with holes in them. He tries so hard to seem presentable and noble but deep down has done things he's not proud of, lacks faith and direction over what is the right thing to do, lacks belief that the world is even worth fighting for. A cynic trying to be a romantic.

Then take into account RDR where he has his cut hair and open collar. Between games, you can physically see how jaded he gets and how he succumbs to his cynicism and lack of belonging or hope. He doesn't care about hiding his scars, stops pretending or believing he/the world isn't what he is b/c he doesn't give a shit.

This uni semester, I'm animating a story about loss.

I started working on it in my third year, and I continued it in my fifth year as a course project. At first, it was very difficult to work because of my own emotions, and I cried many times. Even now, watching the animated video with sound is very painful, but the more I animate and invest in the project, the more I feel healed. It's like I'm allowing my Masia (Masya?) to live in a different form, as a cat-cloud.
