I’m confused about Silver and Sebek’s backstory. Book 7 makes it seem like Sebek only met silver and Lilia when he was 7, but Lilia’s dorm uniform vignette makes it seem like Silver and Sebek knew each other since they were babies. Is this a retcon or did Lilia just forget that Sebek existed?

I reread Lilia’s Dorm Uniform vignettes to see if there was any indication that Silver and Sebek knew each other as infants. Lilia certainly tells a lot of stories in them, but they are always centered on Silver as a baby, and no one ever mentions Silver and Sebek knowing each other that far back. There’s mention of the Zigvolt parents watching baby Silver for Lilia, whether at Lilia’s or at their residence. The vignettes also mention the Zigvolt children coming over, but no specific reference to Sebek. I can’t imagine that the Zigvolts would bring their two eldest and leave the youngest at home or with a sitter, but this is the only explanation that makes sense to me. (Or maybe Sebek wasn’t born yet?? But this would only be true for one year.)

Silver and Sebek's first “official” meeting seems to be, according to 7-83, when Sebek reports to Lilia's forest cottage for his first training session. He gives a self introduction, so I assume it's because Lilia and/or Silver don't know who Sebek is yet.

Silver also states in his Halloween Dress vignettes that he and Sebek have known each other for about 10 years. This would slate him at 7ish and Sebek at 6ish when they first “officially” met. Makes sense, since they were both speaking and have developed fine motor skills (judging by 7-83's flashback).

So... technically no retcon (since the dialogue in Lilia’s Dorm Uniform vignettes references “[Zigvolt] children” coming over and not specifically Sebek) but also yes retcon?? It’s possible that Sebek and Silver knew each other since they were infants, but don’t recall since babies’ memory processing abilities aren’t good. This still isn’t a perfect explanation though, since babies should be able to remember things beginning at a few years old. If Sebek and Silver claim to have met when Sebek was 6 and Silver was 7, then there’s still a few years of cushion time they would have remembered spending at each others’ homes.
