An awesome new illustrated history book profiles powerful women.
Hi
long time no talk. Apparently there’s still activity on this blog, even if it’s not from me. Do people want more from this? And if so, does anyone want to start running it? It was fun when I was about it, but I’m too busy/whatever to keep it up. But like, maybe you should/could/would want to?
I've just read an old response you gave about Marshmallow from Bob's Burgers, and while I completely agree with your points (that the character and others were introduced to suggest shadiness, and that the Belcher's acceptance of her is demonstrating THEIR open-mindedness and not any virtues on Marshmallow's part), I wonder about one part of your answer. You said 'transvestite' is derogatory. Certainly to a transgender woman like Marshmallow, but don't some of the others identify as male?
It’s possible. Gender is complicated, so just because someone says she’s a married man doesn’t really mean that much. I do know, however, that the term “transvestite” is used in tv almost exclusively for derogatory comic relief, and usually to misgender transgender people, which is not cool. So a solid IDK i guess.
absolute bullshit that its 2014 and this is still going on
So there’s a girl I went to high school with who has one arm. And she never talked about it and usually tried to hide it and just generally seemed kind of embarrassed about it.
And the other day she posted a status on Facebook about how excited she was that she will get to have the BEST Furiosa costume this Halloween, because of a feature she used to dislike about herself.
And if u don’t think that’s the tightest shit ever which proves why representation for physical disabilities matters, then get out.
the smarter u are the more men arent funny
I feel like this is the real premise of my blog tho

Capitalism: The Movie
SO IMPORTANT.
Excerpts from my essay, “Revealing Caitlyn Jenner: My Thoughts on Media, Privilege, Healthcare Access & Glamour” on JANETMOCK.com –
“To make any trans person a symbol for an entire community is an unfair task. No one can speak about the varying, intersecting and layered ways in which trans people experience the world. That is why it’s necessary to create a space for nuance and to amplify the voices of those who often are not heard.”
AND
“What enables Jenner to penetrate media the way she has is privilege…It doesn’t make her a bad person. It doesn’t make her undeserving. It doesn’t underwrite her talent, savvy and accomplishments. Privilege enables her access to more conversations, more opportunities, more spaces which can appear as if she’s eclipsed leaders of a movement that has been active for decades, fueled by a community that is ravaged by economic instability, lack of access to knowledgable affordable healthcare, overpoliciing and incarceration, stigmatized, criminalized survival economies like sex work, high HIV infection rates, the ability to live safely and freely as their true selves, and disproportionate violence against trans women of color.”
AND
“Not all trans people care about putting people at ease. Let me be clear about that. Yet for many, presentation is vital and essential, especially for trans women where blending in is a matter of safety. To be able to make your way through a world that so often carries so much resentment, intolerance and misunderstanding about trans people, ‘looking the part’ as Jenner says, is a life-saving privilege, one that many trans people due to economic barriers or the randomness of genetics and puberty frankly will never be able to access.”
So, Mock is a saint, and I’m super into how she and Laverne Cox are using the publicity around Caitlyn Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover to talk about trans issues.

So I was trying to decide which gif set to post, but then I was like, the whole video though. Cecily Strong is amazing, and the crowd reactions are ridiculous.
