There's this song I really like, it's old-fashioned enka sang by Hibari Misora. It was her final grand song she released only a couple of months before she died: her swan song. To this day it's a massive hit, a classic. It's called Kawa no Nagare no You ni, and it roughly translates to 'like a flowing river'. I always get a little teary when I listen to it, because to me, it perfectly encompasses the feeling of getting old. It's scary, it can be difficult, there's many hurdles and unknown turns, but it's life! The clock ticks the same for us all, and I find solace in knowing I'm not alone in it.

So, my humble advice to you is to simply learn to accept the passing of time as it comes to you. It's not a challenge to be toppled, or a trick to be solved. It's the unmovable truth, and you can either fear it, or gently float with it.

Of course I get a little sad sometimes and I wish there'd be some pause button I can press, but then I remind myself that growing old is only as pleasant as one makes it out to be. There are grannies out there running marathons or learning rocket science from scratch! You're only out of time when you decide so yourself. And listen, I love to sit down and philosophize on matters, but in some cases, it's perhaps better to just live it as it is.

It's not easy, but we're all in this together. We'll figure it out!

Japanese Retro Hits: interesting to hear the American influence in post-war Japanese music. Also an umbrella choice for oldies/torch songs in general, would recommend if you’re cooking.
