"Okay, so you probably don’t even care but look." She pulled out her phone before opening an app that she had made herself. "I finally finished my own game."
"Uh--" Emmett hesitantly took the phone as he looked at it. "alright, what am I doing?"
Fine, I won’t bug you about it anymore. Just know that you’ll be missing out on some major fun. Oh, I’m Kim, by the way. It’s very nice to meet you.
[He chuckled as he nodded] It's a pleasure to meet you m'am. Emmett Gunner.

Hearing the voice Abigail nodded her head. “Of course, here you go.” Abigail said softly not taking any notice of the male, her hands digging into her coat pocket. Grabbing the loose change she held it out for him, her eyes finally meeting with his face. “Emmett?” A feeling of butterflies exploded in her stomach, that same feeling since she was fifteenth. Abigail could never explain the hold that he had over her, even after all this time.
Emmett hardly paid attention to whoever he asked, wanting to get out of there as soon as possible already flushed with embarrassment. And then those eyes looked up at hers and Emmett was sent back to his senior year when he met Abigail Wyatt at a football game — everyone always spoke of how ridiculous and cliché young love was and it wasn’t as if Emmett was going to correct them, because it was, but there wasn’t a second of his life that was spent with Abby that Emmett regretted. A familiar, youthful, smile tugged at the corners of his lips as he looked down at her, something that would never leave his face no matter how hard he tried. Looking at her felt like getting the wind knocked out of him in all the best ways— he also felt worse about the quarters. “I mean— uh, nevermind I can get it out of my car— hi.” He sputtered around his words like some teenager all over again. He was a marine he should’ve been able to handle himself far better than this. Clearing his throat, he smiled again. “Abigail. I had no idea you were here.”
12. A song that makes you want to run until you’re someplace very far away.
I don’t know I get a great road-trip vibe from this song haha. With SOUL.
"These changes ain’t changing me—the cold-hearted boy I used to be.
Gunner sighed, running a hand over his face as he stared at his reflection in the mirror on the wall across from the end of the bed. Each time he woke up, he thought the scarred flesh that marred his skin couldn’t be any more painful to look at, but each time, he proved himself wrong. He was pulled from his thoughts by the sound of the door opening. “No,” he barked, scrambling to find a shirt. There was no way to hide the scars on the left side of his face, but he was careful to keep the others under wraps. It was too late, though, and he looked up, defeated, from his spot on the end of the bed. “What?” he asked, his voice tired, “What do you need?”
Emmett hadn't been inside of his own home in thirteen years-- Quite frankly he hadn't been somewhere that felt less like home. And that was saying something. He'd missed a lot on the past thirteen years, for example Addie growing up, and Anna moving to New York. He rarely (if ever) saw Andrew after he moved in with his girlfriend and the only reason he found out about Andrew joining the army was a short email from his mom, one of few. She had asked him to keep an eye on his little brother-- Emmett didn't know how to explain that they wouldn't be side by side, and despite the small chances that it could happened Emmett wasn't sure he could face that. Perhaps now if he were to fight side by side with his brother he could handle it... But not then. The two were close as children but were quick to grow apart as they got older, both leaving home around the same time.... Thirteen years had passed with little to no contact and now they were in the same exact place as children. Emmett hadn't expected to see his whole family in Telluride when he arrived -- but there was no changing it now.
Andrew was the first to show up, their parents let him use Emmett's old room-- now used as a guest room although Emmett could hardly imagine what guests they had over. Ever. Emmett slept on the old ratty couch in their unfinished basement while the girls sprawled out where room was left. Each of them avoided talking to each other. When Emmett and Andrew were the only ones left in the house everything quickly became unbearable. He was extremely hesitant before walking into the room... As Emmett actually looked at his brother for the first time since they split ways he felt his chest clench up and his hands go numb. A million different scenarios went through his mind of what could have possibly happened -- None of which he wanted to believe. He stood up straight with his hands by his sides
"Heard you were staying in here -- thought I'd say hello." Emmett still spoke with the seriousness of a soldier-- It didn't matter how casual he tried to be. It was impossible.

"We've seen the worst of the entire world right before our eyes-- So why is it, that we're incapable of seeing past the worst in each other?"
