After a morning of studying I ran some errands in the afternoon and I of course was victim to the "I will just browse the book shop I won't buy anything". I came home with a graphic novel I have been eyeing since a friend recommended it to me and a non fiction book on cinema. I did end up reading the graphic novel in one sitting once I got home and I will never be emotionally okay ever again. I genuinely do not have the ability to explain the amount of emotions I have felt while reading this graphic novel. Which for context is set in a very real and very dramatic battle of the great war. So far this year it's the only five star I have given to a book.

16.04.2025 // a week's break after writing grind
i'm trying to take a break, but the truth is that it has become difficult for me to turn my brain off. submitting the thesis draft for my annual review made me realise that it's a complete mess and i need to do so much work on it. there's absolutely no cohesion or synthesis across the chapters. i am telling myself it's the 'ugly' phase.

15.03.2026 // time-slip weekend
as usual, i had plans for the weekend. as usual, i cancelled all of them and spent the time bed-rotting instead, which obviously made me feel only worse. thankfully, i've managed to get some writing done; the weekend isn't over yet.
books i've read since friday: A Beast Slinks Towards Beijing by Alice Evelyn Wang; Poet Empress by Shen Tao. A Beast Slinks Towards Beijing is excellent; intergenerational story about how intergenerational trauma and memory unfurl not only through narratives, stories and the psyche, but also through the body. Poet Empress is one of the better fantasies i've read recently, although i've no idea why it is tagged as 'romance' on goodreads.
The beauty of having the earthy feel when you study.

Fully into one of the hardest weeks of this internship, but managing so far, and also sort of having fun! 😅

i forgot to post this yesterday but no matter!
i studied in this cafe until lunchtime, and then after lunchtime i had to go home because i got shat on by a bird. yes. very unfortunate. at home, post-shower, i wrote the intro for my essay and planned my first section.
in the evening, my boyfriend and i got burritos and drinks and watched the lion king. made up for it.
