salut! i'm wrapping up my third year of french in america, but im kinda terrible at it and i want to learn on my own because there's no more space in my schedule and i hate learning in a classroom. i know a lot of vocab but stringing together sentences is difficult and grammar doesn't stick very well, except for some basic passé compose and imparfait. Any tips to learn from over the summer and move towards fluency?
salut mon amie ! here are my recommendations (this may or may not work for you, but it’s what i’m doing over the summer having just finished french 3)
memrise: i would recommend the advanced/intermediate french courses. i’ve been doing these and so far most of the vocab on them is unfamiliar to me, you can message me separately if you the specific names
mango: i love the app/website, it’s amazing! i started at the beginning (just to refresh everything) but you should start wherever you feel comfortable. it’s really good for conversation practice.
duolingo: i do this for like 5-10 min every day, it’s a good grammar review.
textbooks/lessons: i have been using the “easy french step by step” which goes over everything really well, even though it’s for beginners i still recommend it. i also use barron’s french grammar + verbs books which you can find at barns & noble. i took french 3 online, and even though i’m not in the course anymore i still have the links to all the lessons.. anyway there are many online courses to use as well, but that’s for a different masterpost.
practice: i plan to watch french films over the summer on netflix and watch french youtubers. i also write a paragraph every day (about whatever), and then i check + edit it with bon patron. also read loooots of books and news articles.
i’m sure there’s some masterposts out there that can help you out as well! best of luck my friend, if you need anything else feel free to message me!
