Nelly Portillo came to the U.S. from El Salvador as a kid in 1993. She’s lived here ever since, and she would be able to apply for DACA if the Trump administration wasn’t disobeying the Supreme Court’s ruling. Instead, ICE has locked her up, and they’re trying to deport her on Tuesday August 4th.
Nelly has been wasting away in detention; not just because of the trauma and stress, but because she’s Jewish, and ICE won’t give her Kosher food she can eat. She’s lost 60 lbs, and as a cancer survivor her health is in grave danger.
How you can help:
1) Email the San Antonio ICE Office and demand that they #FreeNelly
2) Call the ICE San Antonio Field office at (210) 283-4750 and leave a message for Field Office Director Joseph M. Correa.
Script for both: “I demand that you release Nylssa Portilo (A072407044). She qualifies for DACA and shouldn’t be deported.”
3) Join Never Again Action and Jews for Racial and Economic Justice for a community phonebank on Sunday August 2nd from 12pm-1pm EST. Here is the registration link.
You can help #FreeNelly by emailing, calling, participating in the phone bank, and by signal boosting this post so that more people can advocate for her.
