started rewatching do no harm again and i realized that kairi's operating on sora's heart leading to him becoming obsessed with becoming a cardiologist is basically the same as accidental bequeathing

every day wotc does something so stupid it has me eyeing the idea of building the no good very bad ttrpg idea that’s been rattling around in my head
okay but consider if i took the d20 system and gutted it
so it’s still like high fantasy but now you really just use two types of die, a d20 and your intensity die, which is a d6 for all characters at the start. and the reason for streamlining dice is because i’m about to completely destroy the magic system by making it tags based rather than individualized spells. and then. i make it so physical attacks also can have tags applied to them.
and then i make a mech ttrpg mounted on top of this system using the tags to design mechs and weapons.

“okay, but what about spell slots?” nope. it’s mana now. you gotta use spell points. and tags can have differing costs.
“okay, but what about cantrips?” easy, building a spell that’s below a certain cost (which changes as you level) counts as a cantrip and doesn’t expend mana.
“physical attacks have tags? how is that balanced?” two pools of mana (body mana and mind mana). body mana is generally used for physical actions, mind mana for magical ones.
“can you use body mana for stuff outside of combat, then?” yeah of course.
“okay but how do the mechs fit into this? like why ‘mount’ it on this system?” well, the pilots will also be fully realized adventurers with levels and stuff.
“does mana scale? also what about hit dice?” it’s all intensity now. oops.
“what?” so for example, the mage class would have health intensity 1, body intensity 1, mind intensity 3. so they roll 1 die for health, 1 for body mana, and 3 for mind mana, per level. they’re very heavily specced into magic.
“so what’s the spread on a rogue?” health 1, body 3, mind 1. this can also be altered by subclass though.
“huh.” yeah.
auuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh using your mech to amplify your magical potential. also mech necromancy.
looking back on this post is funny now that im knee deep in writing the ttrpg lmao. turns out:
1. mages are health 2, body 1, mind 4
2. spellknives (the equivalent of rogues) are health 1, body 3, mind 3

There’s a unique kind of struggle that comes with having masked developmental and intellectual disabilities for long enough (and also being able enough to have masked at least well enough to get high grades through school) that like… no one will believe you when you say you can’t do something.

Now that I’m almost 30 none of that is serving me at all in being able to have a typical job or drive or fucking exist at all as an autistic human with no support because, well, guess what, I need support!
It’s. Frustrating.
You have to remind everyone over and over again that you’re a disappointment. That you are worthless “potential” wasted.
I mean. Not exactly that. I try very hard not to actually make it out to be that way because I know that saying those things about myself isn’t helping. But it certainly keeps managing to feel like that’s what I’m reminding everyone about myself.
I keep coming back to this line of thought because I realize it isn’t even that I’m good at school.
I was good at grade school. K-12.
