I got a notification that this sideblog turned 7 today.

I can’t believe it’s already been 7 years since I created this sideblog to obsess over my favorite twilight character who isn’t even a main character (María) lol, and a ship (Jasría) that absolutely no one likes nor cares about except me.

What was I thinking? I don’t really know. 😂

I just wanted to talk about them (Especially María) and make content that I wasn’t seeing. I was very much tired of seeing the same things about the same main characters. I had so many thoughts and ideas to share about my niche interest in such a small part of Twilight and I didn’t care if anyone didn’t like them or didn’t care because I did.

This blog is only 7 years old but I’ve been hanging around the twilight fandom for much longer than that, using my main blog before I created this one. I joined when I was like 13 and I’m in my 20’s now… time flies.

I did meet some amazing people along the way and I’m happy to have shared so many amazing ideas and experiences with them. I think people are wildly overestimating how many people in the US identify as a leftist, can explain to you what a leftist is, and quite frankly, can even tell you what is happening with Israel and Palestine. You cannot imagine how profoundly checked out the average American is and I'm not even saying that to be mean

I live in a predominantly black and predominantly low income area, and aside from policing, most people I talk to do not give a fuck about politics because in their eyes voting is pointless because the people in power are going to do what they want anyway and we're all too exhausted to deal with anything beyond our own struggle and maybe our close family.

Yes, there are activists and organizers, but mostly those are people who are younger (not having kids yet), older (kids grown and out of the house), and generally people with better support systems (close family who can help pay bills and carry the load of responsibilities), and have reasonably good health.

Most people between say 25 and 55 are too burnt out to engage with anything outside of their work and family.

Sure many have some level of understanding that politics affects their daily lives, but you can't squeeze juice out of dehydrated fruits, you know?

When your life is consumed with which bills absolutely have to be paid this week, your kid not getting homework done, getting time off for your mother's doctor's appointments, your significant other not carrying their weight in the household, the weird sound your car is making (and how much is that going to cost?), your work hours just got cut and the rent and electric bill just went up.... Where exactly is the time and energy to engage with anything else?
