‹‹ I can claim you, ›› she signs, completely serious to her sister as she does it. She stares at her sister with curious eyes. ‹‹ Claims don’t have to be romantic or anything, however I could claim you and I want to so that you can be safe, Abbey.. ›› Channah doesn’t want Abbey to be stuck and it also… sort of helped both of them. But she doesn’t want to bother her sister if she’s not interested. Lord would only imagine what their parents would say to the idea. But it would solve many of Channah’s issues (mainly… living with overprotective parents in the first place).
She reaches out to her sister’s hands and squeezes them lovingly so that her sister knows she’s there for her– she wants Abbey to feel safe. It’s not fair and the both of them know that but it doesn’t also mean both of the girls have to be miserable. Though, in all honesty, that’s probably what’s going to sadly happen anyhow.
The woman just wants the best for her older sister. Was that so much to ask for?
For someone who prided themselves quite highly on their intellect, Abbey was more than a little blindsided by the suggestion. It wasn’t out of the realm of possibility, of course, and she could think of countless options that sounded far less pleasant than being in a legal claim with her sister. Frankly, the benefits seemed to outweigh the risks and she stared at their joined hands for several moments of consideration. Finally, she offered Channah a soft smile. ‹‹ You’re sure you want to do that? ›› It was practically a rhetorical question but she was momentarily worried Channah was offering to placate her and the last thing she wanted was for her little sister to be legally stuck with her for the rest of their natural lives if she didn’t want to be.
‹‹ If you want to, I want to. We’ll have to get all of your stuff from mom and dad’s, but it should fit here. I’ve already got the guest room and everything.›› Truthfully, the more she considered the idea, the more pleasant it became— it was a hell of a lot better than having to be matched up with strangers willy nilly because of some ridiculous online market. ‹‹ You have to promise me you’re sure about it, though. I’m serious. ›› She schooled her features into a stern expression to cement her point.

She’s not up to date on what was going on? Channah looks very flustered as she points to her sister’s TV– which clearly is not on the news. ‹‹ They’re making it mandatory for non-claimed over 25 to be apart of this marketplace that– you have to sign up to be paired with dominants that you might be compatible with! And people who aren’t in a claim over the age of 18 have to take classes to learn how to be better at what they are! ›› She pauses before slumping a bit into her sister’s couch with a very angry noise of disapproval. This is scary for her. She doesn’t want to be apart of this- and it’s not like she can get out of the market place either, she’s almost 25 and she’s not attending school.
‹‹ Switches are forced to take the submissive class. Not the Dominant class. ›› She finally signs as a ‘matter of factly’ type way of communicating as her hands drop down into her lap with a frown appearing on her lips. She doesn’t like these new rules. She just hasn’t found the right Dominant yet, either. Or submissive. She has ideas, but she waits to hear her sister’s thoughts on the situation before suggesting it to her.
Of course she’d seen the news— she’d heard of nothing but the news and she was frankly getting sick and tired of it. She was furious, on the one hand, and decidedly unable to do anything about it on the other; useless, was her most predominant feeling and compartmentalizing her feelings about things seemed to be the easiest means of working through her days without wanting to tear her hair out. ‹‹ Of course I’ve seen it... I’m not sure there’ll be anyone who hasn’t seen it. But keeping it on doesn’t change the way I feel about it, and it isn’t like I can... ›› She rolled her eyes, openly frustrated. ‹‹ It’s not like there are people lining up to claim me, Chan. If this is what I need to do, then I suppose it’s what I need to do. ››
She reached out to squeeze Channah’s shoulder gently, hoping the gesture would do something to ease the tension that was steadily building in her living room. ‹‹ I’m sorry they haven’t given you the option to take both classes, and that you have to do all of this. I know it’s bullshit. Maybe they’d let me teach you everything? That might be okay? ›› Abbey, as per usual, was far more concerned with Channah’s state of being with the new laws in place than with her own and every frantic mention of it from her sister practically set her teeth on edge.

The second that she read the news about the new rules, Channah doesn’t know what to do. She’s so worried. She also is worried about herself but that also doesn’t necessarily need to be focused on. Finding out that her sister, after texting her, is home, she quickly drives over to her apartment and hastily rushes up to the submissive’s apartment. They need to talk and she’s so worried.
She doesn’t want Abbey to be upset or mistreated by anyone in this market. The second that her sister answers after her very serious and persistent knocking, she walks in signing abruptly and as fast as ever.‹‹ I cannot believe they’re doing this! Do you think the government is really this stupid Abbey? ›› The Switch turns around to actually face her sister. ‹‹ They can’t do that to you! ››
To say Abbey was having a whirlwind of a night was something of an understatement— two beers hadn’t done much to soothe her and she’d been half-watching Planet Earth on Netflix when furious knocking signaled her little sister’s arrival. She blinked owlishly in the face of Channah’s furious signing, finally bringing her hands up to speak for herself, ‹‹ Hey, hey. Slow down, buttercup, I’m not up to speed right now and I think maybe we can discuss whatever the government is doing to me a little more calmly, yeah? ››
She motioned towards the couch and loped over to it herself, curling up in one corner as she fixed her little sister with a curious look. ‹‹ What’s got you so up in arms, sweetheart? ›› She had a fairly good idea how to answer her own question, but giving Channah more time to decompress seemed like the best way to continue to have this conversation without complications.
