As much as I love yoo joonghyuk and kim dokja as a romantic pairing I hate to admit......they'd be such a bad couple. Kim dokja has always struggled to see Yoo joonghyuk as a person with his own evolving thoughts and opinions and has always made him the ideal and the basis of his escapism. He's so used to defining his relationship with yoo joonghyuk as something he needs to survive he'll immediately distance himself from him the second he has to show half the honesty you need to display to have any relationship , let alone a romantic one.

Oh and yoo joonghyuk.....he loves others with such gentleness and he can't show any of it. He'll see kim dokja's avoidant tendencies going rampant and he'll accept them anyways because he wants to keep the one he loves safe. And he'll recognise his own weakness and mistaken it as inconsideration and he'll just start distancing himself from kim dokja to avoid confronting his own emotions. The only reason their relationship works in the novel is because it is, quite literally, bound by life and death. They have never been with eachother long enough to strip eachother bare to recognise and accept the cracks in their own self.

LOOK AT HIM. A yjh who hasn't regressed and lived a long life after the scenarios...look at those wrinkles, the smile lines and he's slowly loosing eyesight also he wobbled, wobbled as he sat down. Ofcourse kdj would feel so emotional about this. He finally grew old, he used a skill that literally was called living the life to the fullest (paraphrase ehm). For once he could have a happy life and stay that way. It's so sad...yet he still chose something that was told to him to be an ardous path.
