I'm gonna get crucified for this. I just saw Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, and I'm sorry to say this, y'all, but I didn't like it as much as I wanted to.
As the film was reaching its end, I kept thinking to myself, "Why am I not enjoying this as much as I want to?" And then it finally hit me: I couldn't get fully invested in the story because the movie wasn't investing enough time into the people who are a part of it! The story focused so much on all these big dramatic events that it didn't give itself a moment to breathe, so it could focus on how the characters were feeling about said events!
Remember that heartfelt scene where Sokka opens up to Suki about his grief over Yue and how it made him overly protective of her in the Serpent's Pass? Or that sweet moment where Toph talks with Zuko about meeting Uncle Iroh? Or that poignant scene where Zuko, Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee talk about their struggles and insecurities? It's these kinds of scenes that are what this movie needed so much more of!
And what makes it that much more painful is that there were SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO HAVE THEM! Wouldn't you have loved to see Zuko and Katara talk with each other about the struggles they face in their political careers? Or Sokka talk about how the adversity he faces as a non-bender and how he feels about the Denied and their cause? Or Toph and Zuko confront Tagah because they feel bad for what the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom did to the Air Nomads? Or heck, just have Tagah actually get to know Aang's family better, which would have made his betrayal that much more devastating!
And that's sadly why I didn't love this movie as much as I wanted to. Even though the hype moments and aura were great, it ended up being not as emotionally impactful as it should have been because it missed countless opportunities to develop the characters who were doing said hype moments and aura.
I made these paintings of Tagah and Sonam for the flashback sequences in the Avatar Aang movie, which I was so lucky to help guide the style direction of.
These are the very first paintings I made for Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender. I designed the art style for the Sonam and Tagah scenes throughout the film! I want to thank PD Jake Panian and AD Aaron Loftis for trusting me so much with these parts of the movie; their incredible leadership and support carried our entire team.
Water, Earth, Fire, Air.
[doesn't understand jacking off] and I'm supposed to... touch my penis? [shaking my head and smiling, murmuring to myself] touching my own penis... [chuckles] what will they come up with next
Today I jerked it to the most beautiful thing in the world. A bouquet of 100 red roses
Did anyone ever like attempt to document and compile the variations of Barney the dinosaur murder ballads across the elementary school system in the early 2000s. Like legit it has always fascinated me as a phenomena and I would love to know if there were like traceable regional variations or what.
Looking at the tags so far Iām kind of fascinated by how much the āI Love Youā parodies vary in their phrasing/murder weapons but the āJoy to the Worldā ones are nearly identical
here is my collection of barney murder songs as they appeared in the notes and comments of this post at about 4 pm pacific 7/25, somewhat arbitrarily color coded to show similar memes. it appears that "baseball bat and 2x4" is the mode configuration but there is so much variation that that exact phrasing only makes up a small part of the set. if i knew more about statistical modeling i would turn this into some kind of data tree that shows which phrases are most likely to follow other phrases.
