Suffolk University Alternative Spring Break

Submit YOUR experience Suffolk University and the S.O.U.L.S. Center are offering ten trips during spring break 2012 for those who want to spend their break giving back to various communities in the United States. The trips will focus on poverty relief, environmental justice and equal rights. For one week, students will work with the local affiliate, the local community, and families to help people who currently live in substandard housing.

We stop in and spend some time in Maine with our students on their alternative spring break trip. Our students worked with the Penobscot Indian Nation - Boys & Girls Club - painting the gym and working with kids in the after-school program. Simply put, our students were at the right place and at the right time.

Athens, GA

My experience on the ASB trip to Athens, Georgia has been fun, inspiring, and certainly life-changing. The group of students, two student leaders, and co-facilitator I had the privilege of working with are fantastic; in one week, we evolved into a very close team. Their passion and care for the Habitat for Humanity projects we worked on touched everyone involved, including the Habitat staff and members of the Athens community.

This trip has been the hallmark of my experience at Suffolk; it allowed me to see how Suffolk students are distinctively engaged, generous, and enthusiastic. I'd like to thank Suffolk University and the SOULs Office for the wonderful opportunity, as well as my team for being so "automatic."

ASB Delaplane 2012 = SUCCESS!!! I couldn't have asked for a better group: instead of simply completing the task assigned (170 trees to plant), we planted more than 200 trees and mulched 10 trails. On top of that, we had an amazing/incredible team bonding (bond fires and s'mores, movie nights, horseback riding, kayaking, dancing and singing under the rain and much more). Thank you guys and I can't wait for our reunion in June :-D
