"Why are you shirtless?" Is the first thing you ask Zuko when you're finally next to him. You swiftly knock out a Denied who tries to attack while Zuko launches a blast at two more in the air. They promptly fall out of the sky with screams but that's the least of your concerns.
Zuko looks at you, then down at his bare chest, before shrugging.
"Didn't even realise I lost it," he replies, oddly nonchalant, and you squint at him. "What? We're in the middle of a dangerous battle. The last thing I'm thinking about is my modesty."
"It's distracting though," you say, poking his stomach to watch the muscles there twitch. You're unashamed to say it makes you a little flustered. "Trying to fight for my life while protecting my friends and my husband's kickflipping around with his tits on display."
Zuko audibly gasps, handsome face twisted in feigned offense and you're about to laugh when he's suddenly grabbing your waist. You react quickly, swiftly turning in his hold to kick an incoming Denied off the roof as Zuko takes out the one approaching from behind you both.
"That was rude," you say, slightly peeved, and Zuko hums his agreement. "Can't a girl scold her husband for tempting her with his chest during a life-changing event?"
Zuko snorts, visibly amused. "My apologies, my dearest wife." He sets you back on your feet but doesn't let go of your waist, holding it firmly. "Next time I'll be more considerate to your delicate sensibilities."
You gape, eyes wide. "Delicate sensibilities?" You poke at his chest, hard enough to make him wince. "Says the guy who still blushes whenever I take my robes off—"
"Duck."
Zuko firmly pushes your head down to follow him down as a slice of air rushes over you. You try not to think about he uses the same force to push you down on his cock.
You feel a bit more peeved now.
"We can talk about this later," he says, planting a swift kiss on your lips before springing back up. At the same time, another Denied rushes him and sends both of them spiralling off the roof. You watch as Zuko manages to catch himself with jets of fire beneath his feet and roll your eyes at how cool and handsome and shirtless he is.
"He doesn't know what he's in for," you murmur and turn around just in time to catch a punch before happily delivering your own.

Your mother has always told you that it was a bad idea to talk to strangers. Technically, you didn’t break the rules. He wasn’t exactly a stranger to you. You knew exactly who he was. Afterall, he was all over the main page of your school’s shutter patch page with the biggest shit-eating grin known to mankind.
Geum Seongje.
If anything, he basically had a celebrity following. An infamous celebrity following, but one that attracted the attention of anyone around him nonetheless. He's pretty hard to miss when he’s beating up anyone who looks at him for more than three seconds. You think it’s a dumb rule to impose. Nobody in their right minds actually wants to land themselves in a squabble against some jacked-up muscle man with a couple of screws loose in his head, who lived like everyday might be his last.
That's what you were thinking when you see him hobbling out of the local bowling alley. If you had to guess, it’s probably a front for some shady money-laundering business. Whatever, not your problem. You had just gotten out of cram school, and the only thing on your mind was the promise of at least an hour of doomscrolling followed by (hopefully) a whole night of uninterrupted sleep. Luckily, he doesn’t notice your presence, muttering something under his breath about how he “can’t see jackshit” and how “he needs another hit”. You don’t know if he meant if he wanted to get into yet another fight or his favourite nicotine fix.
You survey the scene before you, internally contemplating if you should intervene. Should you even help the guy? It's not like Seongje couldn’t walk home alone. This is probably a daily occurrence. The guy can take care of himself. Besides, he still has one good leg to use. So many others have accomplished more with less.
You nod.
Yes, he doesn’t need your help whatsoever.

You grip your backpack straps closer to your chest and walk quickly toward the bumbling maniac. Okay, you lied. Maybe you just don’t want to see this guy eventually lose his foot, no matter how much of an asshole he may choose to be.
“Hey,” your voice cuts through his loud little soliloquy.
His face darkens as he quickly whips around, eyeing you up and down. You intentionally try to avoid his eye contact, not wanting to be unwillingly invited to a physical fight in the middle of the night. Seongje isn’t known to hit someone that he knows can’t handle a punch, but there can always be exceptions. You inhale sharply before continuing.
“Lean on me,” you utter, pointing towards your shoulders. His tightened demeanor forces you to look down at your shoes. You should probably buy a new pair, this one was breaking at its seams.
A beat.
Then, he snorts.
“Do you know who the fuck i am?” he questions intimidatingly, daring you to look up.
You now divert your gaze to actually observe his bandaged-up foot, wincing when you see the dried coat of blood around a hole that was recently punctured into the middle of his running shoe. The actual bleeding has stopped, but that was only probably because it’s been a few hours since the initial hit. He was honestly pretty lucky that the person who did this didn't manage to poke a hole hard enough through his entire foot.
“...someone that may lose his foot,” you breathe out.
“And you know how?”
“I have eyes,” you reply.
He puffs his chest up, shifting his entire body weight on his non-injured foot.
“Well, fuck off.”
You bite the inside of your mouth, trying not to blow the fuse off your already-short temper. He was right, this was definitely none of your business. You rub your index against your temple, the charms of your backpack clacking against the zipper as you turn around to leave. Then, you deeply suck in a breath, turning around just as fast.
“Listen idiot, it’s the middle of the night and I also want to be anywhere but here with you. But you’re hurt and as much as you’re a pain in everyone’s asses, I don't want to see you end up sleeping in some abandoned alleyway because you couldn’t put aside your inflated ego,” you hiss in frustration.
Silence.
“Damn, where are your bedside manners?”
Fuck it. You're risking a punch.
You lift your head up to lock eyes with Seongje. He tilts his head and stares back in amusement, as if playing a game of chicken. Before you’ve reached three seconds, you’re grabbing his loose hand and slinging it over your own shoulders. He grunts in response, unused to the shift in weight and height. A hint of cigarette smoke wafts through your nostrils as he leans closer. You avert his suddenly hardening gaze and squeeze your eyes shut, embracing for a hit with his other arm.
It doesn’t come.
You peek out through one eye. He actually looks mildly entertained, probably figuring that you can’t take anything more than a mild blow.
“So,” he starts off slowly. “What’s the plan now, nurse?”
Maybe you should’ve thought about this more carefully.
After a moment of irritated contemplation, you hiss out, “where do you live?”
“Why? You wanna go make out or somethin’?”
Your mind sputters for a second.
“In your dreams, dick.”
His stubborn ass is never going to spill where he lives. This is what you get when you try helping. Maybe you should try to annoy the shit outta him so that he’ll eventually cave in. Not to toot your own horn or anything, but you’re very good at annoying others. I mean, how else were you able to manage to convince your parents to let you stay by yourself at home when they’re out on business trips? You’re pretty proud of the powerpoints and charts you crafted late at night, detailing all the costs and expenses you could save if they just left you alone.
Your stomach suddenly grumbles.
If only you added just a little bit more money into groceries.
As you open your mouth to vocalize that thought, you shut it immediately after you see Seongje absentmindedly beginning to clench and unclench his fists through the corner of your eyes. Holy hell, every flex of his muscles only proves how much the kid’s built like an actual tank. Let’s maybe hold that thought for when you learn how to take an actual hit.
Now what if you just left him at a hotel?

Who are you kidding, you barely have enough money as is and you doubt he even carries a wallet around. He probably thinks it’ll throw off his stance when he’s fighting or some shit.
You click your tongue. Fuck it. After this whole ordeal, you think you’re going to have to develop a sense of self-preservation.
“My place is twenty minutes away,” you acquiesce.
A shit-eating grin spreads across Seongje’s face.
“Wow, you must really like me,” he smugly comments.
“Stuff it, hotshot,” you retort, elbowing his chest before beginning to head in the direction of your home. You sigh. Your mother would definitely talk your ears off about the dangers of letting a stranger into your home if she were to ever find out.
After what seems to be an eternity, you genuinely think he’s fucking with you as you feel the weight growing heavier on your shoulders. You can forgive him for dragging his injured foot, but you have an inkling that he’s doing the same to the other one based on the snickers that he barely suppresses with evidently fake coughs.
You stop moving to hit Seongje with your blankest stare.
“Alright, what the fuck is your problem.”
He raises his eyebrows in mock shock.
“Careful with that language, young lady.”
You seriously want to pummel this guy into the dirty sidewalk.
“I mean, what can I do to make you move your ass?” you roll your shoulders, feeling the strain of his weight on your neck.
“Mmm,” he hums in thought, slightly easing himself off your shoulders. “I wanna eat.”
You raise an eyebrow.
“Excuse me?”
“Instant noodles,” he nods.
You scoff in disbelief. You're barely making it by with your parents’ limited monthly allowance. How are you supposed to feed a grown ass teenager that probably shaves off more than three times the recommended amount of calories to burn everyday through using only his fists to communicate with the outside world?
“What's wrong with you?”
Your words fall upon deaf ears. Seongje is already reaching into his pockets to fish out his phone to search up the closest 24/7 convenience store. He squints as he types into his phone. Your mind is already envisioning your bank account savings draining with every single one of his useless purchases.
“The nearest one is three minutes away.”
“We’re not fucking going.”
“Yeah, we are,” Seongje smirks, already leaning back onto your shoulders and pushing you forward. You try to pry yourself out of his grasp to no avail. His hold is like a dog’s bite—unrelenting and harsh against your resistance. No matter how you squirm or dig your shoes against the pavement, his pace is constant. If anything, he actually seems to walk faster in order piss you off even more. You curse his toned muscles under your breath.
Even with your trying efforts, you both reach the convenience store in record time. You close your eyes in prayer as he ditches you for some bag of chips that were marked on sale. If there is a deity out there somewhere, they are definitely having a big, fat, hearty chuckle at your misfortune right now.
“Motherfucker…” you mumble under your breath. The guy actually hobbled faster than you could’ve ran. You were a fucking idiot—he was just taking his sweet ass time before you decided to meddle in.
Seongje glances behind his shoulder, smirking.
“Did someone say my name?”
You’re not a fighter by any means, but if it means that you can land a blow on this guy, you’re definitely signing up for a gym membership.
You find yourself waiting at the till by the front of the store, next to some stoned out cashier who looked bored out of his mind. You can’t blame them, really. Other than a couple rats that you definitely saw near the cooler, you and Seongje were probably the only customers in the entire store. You tap your worn-out shoes against the ground impatiently, arms folded as you wait for Seongje to drain out the stock of the entire store. He squints at the carton of banana milk in his hands. Probably to see how much money he should nab out of your wallet. You gnaw on your lips, mentally count how many days you’re going to have to starve yourself for this stunt.
Suddenly, Seongje appears in front of you with two packets of ramen in each hand.
“Heat it up, dear,” he mockingly snickers, dropping the packets into your arms.
You scoff before reluctantly start preparing his dish, using the nearby microwave to heat up the contents. Your mouth actually starts to water the smell. You bite down on your tongue. Keep it together, you have a granola bar at home waiting for you with open arms and a shit ton of chocolate chunks. It's diabetes central there.
“Hey, you didn’t pay for that!” the cashier’s voice interjected behind you, interrupting you from your thoughts.
Oh, right.
You sigh, taking off the straps of your bag and fiddle around with the zipper of your backpack. Just as you managed to find your wallet, you heard a loud thump followed by what sounded like the tightening of fabric. You whip your head quickly to an appalling sight—Seongje has the cashier by the collar of their shirt. He raises the guy into the air until they were on their tiptoes, sputtering as they try to counteract gravity.
“How much did you say this was again?” Seongje stares daggers into the employee’s eyes, tightening his grip on the man’s collar in an unspoken threat of something worse.
The cashier gasps a little before giving a weak smile and replying meekly.
“Free, sir.”
“Nice,” Seongje sneers before letting up. The cashier falls a few inches before gripping the counter, choking and coughing. They hit their chest with blowing hits before scampering off into the backrooms, probably to take another hit of their weed. Seongje then turns to you and grabs the basket that’s overfilled with random junk from the counter.
You stood frozen in your spot, mouth agape at the situation that just unfolded in front of your eyes.
Seongje smirks when he brushes past you out the door. Through the corner of your eyes, you see him sit on one of the abandoned tables outside, arms behind his head and sitting back leisurely as if he hadn’t just threatened and committed robbery.
You quickly grab the bowl of instant noodles from the microwave along with some cuteries, careful not to spill its contents before following him outside. You place it before him with glowering eyes.
“What, in the otherloving fuck, was that?!”
“What was what?” Seongje cocks an eyebrow. He grabs one of the chopsticks from your hand and begins to mix the contents together.
“Are you trying to get us both arrested?”
“Maybe,” he shrugs, unbothered by your outburst. He takes a bite of the noodle with a huge, irreverent slurp.
You recoil in disgust before a thought hits you. A chill slithers down your spine as you quickly fumble around your pockets to grab your phone. Your hands hover cautiously over the screen before typing in: “How many years would i be sentenced to for being an accomplice to petty theft?”
“Hey,” Seongje gruffs out in front of you. You ignore him, clicking on the first link to your search.
“Accomplices to theft can be given a penalty of imprisonment with labor for up to…one year,” you mumble out loud. “One…year.”
You close your phone and place it facing down on the table.
“52 weeks…” you laugh hollowly. “365 days…that’s…8760 hours…5256—mMH!”
Your eyes widen in shock. Seongje stares back in a bored expression, leaning back after having just shoved a spoon full of noodles into your mouth.
“Shut the fuck up,” he snaps.
You take the spoon out of your mouth, chewing a little. It's actually pretty good. As if reading your mind, Seongje pushes his bowl of ramen closer in your direction. He leans back in his seat once it’s within eating distance to you.
“Accomplices need a cut of the goods too,” he signals with a nod, urging you to eat.
You eye him warily in apprehension. This isn’t right. He's nice. Too nice from the maniacal lunatic label that everyone calls him behind his back. Then it clicks in your head—what if he slipped something in there when you were not looking? You slowly lean in to sniff the bowl. It still smells like regular ramen noodles.
“What are you, a dog?” Seongje tsks. “Should i get you a clicker to make you eat this shit?”
Heat floods to your face. Nevermind, he’s still an asshole.
Seongje pauses. He leans in, index finger tapping his chin in fake contemplation.
“Or…do you want me to force feed it down your throat?” he leers threateningly, eyes darkening as he directly locks eyes with you.
You gulp.
“No, thank you,” you respond quickly.
Grabbing some spare chopsticks from the side, you quickly dig into the meal. Once you started, you couldn’t stop yourself. Even the leftover seasoning was not spared from your hungry rampage. You grab the plastic bowl with both hands, lifting it up to gulp down the leftover soup. Seongje chuckles as you thump down the dish on the table with a satisfied sigh.
“That hungry, huh?”
You clear your throat, feeling a bit ashamed.
“I didn’t eat dinner,” you admit sheepishly.
Seongje shakes his head in dismay.
“You probably didn’t have breakfast either.”
You laugh nervously.
Seongje frowns, reaching into the basket he stole. You track his movements, curious as to what he might pull out. He fiddles with something between his hands before shoving it into your hands. Your eyes cross before managing to read out a very familiar label—Organic Banana Milk.
“Drink this,” he orders.
Your fingertips briefly touch his scraped knuckles as you take the carton from his hands.
“Does that hurt?” you ask, gaze lingering over his hands.
“No,” Seongje responds bluntly.
“Bullshit.”
A faint smile curls at the corner of his lips, which goes unnoticed as you continue to carefully examine his hands. He looks at you in amusement as he places his hands loosely on the table, feigning nonchalance. You tilt your head, inspecting every cut and scabbed-over knuckle.
“I got some ointment at home for that,” you announce with a definite nod after giving it one last look-over.
“Inviting me in after the first date?”
You scoff.
“You wish.”
You both sit in silence for a while before you lean over to the nearest recycling bin to trash the now-empty carton. You turn around to see him looking at you with a smug look on his face. God, something about that just irritates the hell out of you.
“I really think we should pay for all this.”
Seongje’s smug face drops into a scowl.
“I said it was fine.”
“I know you’re supposed to maintain a ‘bad boy’ persona or whatever, but that’s just not me.”
“Bad boy?” he asks, confused and slightly exasperated.
“I’m not built for prison like you.”
Seongje narrows his eyes.
“The fuck does that mean?”
“I don’t know how to fight! Come on, look at me,” you wave your arms weakly. “I barely received a pass in physical education class back in elementary school.”
“So a literal kid can beat your ass,” Seongje deadpans.
“Yeah, probably.”
An awkward silence looms over you both before you flail your hands in front of your face.
“Whatever, I'm going back in, whether you like it or not.”
“No the fuck you’re not.”
“Yeah, I am.”
“No, you’re not.”
“Yes, I a—”
Seongje groans in exasperation, takes a second to look at your distressed state, pushes himself out of his chair, punches it…and hobbles back into the store by himself. You blink and gulp, staring at his chair that’s now on the ground. He actually left a dent on there. It was a metal chair. You don't think you could’ve done that without putting your entire body on the line and leaving the scene with a whole side of bruises. Your classmates were right, the guy was absolutely mental.
He comes back out after about ten seconds.
“Idiot’s still back there sobbing like a fuckin’ pussy,” he mutters under his breath. “I didn’t even do jackshit.”
“So the money—” you begin.
“Paid.”
Oh. Guess he does carry a wallet around.
“You gonna stop bitching now?” he sneers, looking down at you. You feel the tug of a grin at the corner of your lips. You nod a little in acknowledgement, staring up at him in satisfaction.
“...thanks Seongje.”
He freezes before crouching down by your chair, eye-level to you. Your breath hitches as you slowly begin to lean back. He's very close. So close in fact that if you just lean a little, he might be able to hear how loud your heart was thumping against your ribs. Your gaze anxiously drifts over his face, trying to decipher his emotion. You’ve never noticed how pretty the mole underneath his right eye made him look. Your mouth begins to feel very dry. Fuck, this was so not what you were expecting to happen on such a random Friday night.
“Say that again,” he whispers.
A sudden heat rushes back up your face. You gulp.
“Thanks Seongje.”
You give a weak smile, hoping that’s enough to appease him.
Seongje continues to stare at you silently. A bit of red floods into his ears. Your brows furrow in confusion—it wasn’t even a cold night. He opens his mouth, about to say something, but closes it at the last second. Like a switch, he suddenly stands up and furiously grabs the basket from underneath the table.
“We’re going the fuck home.”
“What?”
“Do I need to fucking repeat myself? We’re leaving,” he seethes, grabbing you tightly by the shoulders. Without room for another word, you find yourself rushed back out onto the sidewalk. You sputter, not even having the time to put on the straps of your backpack.
“What the fuck?!”
He just hooks his arms over your shoulders without another word.
The walk to your place was actually quiet. You could feel the burn of Seongje’s eyes on the side of your face, but every time you whip your head up to meet his gaze, he’s staring vacantly at the ground or up to the darkening sky, looking anywhere but you. If you didn’t know better, you’d think he was flustered. But this was Seongje—the man thrives off of confrontation, for god’s sake. The only activity that could actually excite him was probably beating the shit out of anyone who even looks his way.
You pause. Actually, he probably likes getting beaten up himself. Based on the videos you saw circulating from school, you’ve never seen anyone get so fired up by a punch in the face. The masochist actually had winked into the camera and had the audacity to call the assaulter interesting after being dealt with a serious black eye and multiple cuts to his face and arms.
You shake your head. You're probably just reading into it.
When the two of you finally reach the gates to your place, you stop and tug on the sleeve of Seongje’s jacket.
“We’re here.”
Seongje raises his head up and stares at the door. He inhales a constrained breath and turns to you with an unreadable expression in his face. You narrow your eyes once you realize that he hasn’t moved in what feels like forever.
“What?” you ask, rubbing your cheek with the back of your hands. “Is there something on my face?”
Without a moment’s hesitation, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out his phone.
“Give me your number.”
You blink.
“What?”
“Give me your number,” he repeats, this time with a twitch in his lips.
Your mouth gapes.
“Huh?”
“What? Huh?” he mocks, repeating your words back to you. “What are you, a fucking parrot?”
You scrunch your nose in offence.
“Apologize.”
He looks at you like you just grew horns on your head. Seongje doesn’t fucking apologize to anyone.
“If I'm gonna give you my number, you better learn how to apologize.”
Seongje taps his fingers on the back of the screen in agitation, figuring you’d relent once he waited long enough. He’s instead met with a glare and a raised eyebrow.
He rolls his eyes and grumbles some indecipherable words under his breath. You’re not having it.
“Speak up,” you order.
He shoots you back with a look of disdain. You tap your shoes against the ground, waiting. It's yet another game of chicken, except this time, you’ve decided to win. The air is thick with tension as you both stare at each other in absolute silence until finally, he relents.
“...sorry,” he grits through clenched teeth.
That was probably the best you can take.
“Now, was that so bad?”
You snatch the phone from his outstretched hands and type in your number before handing it back.
“Good boy.”
He scowls.
“I’m not a fucking baby,” he simmers.
You coo, patting his calloused hand gently.
“Of course you’re not,” you reply.
Seongje stands wordlessly, staring at you with straight venom through his eyes. You think you can hear his fists tightening into a grip. You clear your throat in apprehension. Got it, don’t poke the bear. Time to change the subject.
“Aren't you coming in?” you signal with your head before pushing open the gates. Seongje shakes his head, shoving his hands into his pockets after handing you the basket. He nudges you through the gates and closes it behind you.
“No.”
Then, he turns around…and hobbles back the other way.
You wait on him long enough to see him turn the corner.
…but he doesn’t come back.
…huh.
You walk towards your front door, pulling out your keys to go inside. As you close your front door behind you and take off your shoes by the rack, you casually glance inside the basket. Your eyes widen as you realize it’s filled to the brim with at least a week’s worth of food, all packaged with a “freshly made” label. There's even cartons of unopened banana milk lining the edges of the basket.
Your mind races with questions.
Is this a code for something? How far away does he actually live? Why did he do this?
Then, a newfound realization crosses your mind—did Seongje just walk you home?
A ping rings from your phone, disrupting your oncoming thoughts.
You quickly unlock your phone to open up the notification. An unconscious smile tugs on your lips once you read the message.

you sat at the bar and asked for a drink, which you downed in no time. you craved for that drunken state, for your inhibitions to go away. you quickly ordered a second one, just looking around to see if you recognized anyone.
and then you saw him. sitting down, presiding over the table, while a stunning girl was straddling his lap, kissing him. you stared, the alcohol already having an effect on your body. he returned the kiss from time to time, then went back to drinking from his glass and smoking the cigarette in his hand. he also made comments to his friends while smirking, but you weren’t able to hear what they were saying because of the distance and the loud music.
you couldn’t deny it to yourself: the scene was making you wish you were her. fuck it, even being one of his friends in the table, just to see him like that up close, would be enough. you ordered another drink, wanting to forget about the image.
when you finished your fourth drink, everything that passed your sight felt like a blur. you weren’t thinking anymore, just walking, feeling the sudden urge to move. you went to the club’s main dance floor, not being able to feel embarrassment anymore. you started to dance alone, singing the parts of the songs that you remembered, slurring the words. suddenly, you felt a pair of hands roaming over your hips, picking at your dress.
“hey, sweetheart. you alone here?” you didn’t recognize the man’s voice. you just felt his hands on you too much, but you weren’t responding because you weren’t conscious enough. you just kept dancing, not even answering.
“mmh, not a talker, huh? wanna go straight at it?” he said, while spinning you around. even though you weren’t processing the situation properly, you felt uncomfortable. his hand came up to your waist, so you tried to pull away, but he didn’t let you. you started to panic.
“h-hey. let go.” you said to the man. but he kept rubbing off against you, not listening.
suddenly, as your tears started to come out, the man was pulled away. he was taken by the collar of his shirt and dragged away from the crowd. it was too quickly to process — you didn’t even see how it happened, or who did it.
you decided to go the bathroom, in the need of washing your hands to feel a little less filthy. you then chose to go out for some air, starting to sober up after that whole situation. you were just processing it, becoming conscious of the strange man and his sudden disappearance, not being aware of your environment.
“i was starting to think i needed to check my prescription again.” you froze. you definitely did recognize that voice, the one who talked to you through your disassociation time after every mission. “you were the last person i expected to see here tonight.” seongje said, while blowing his cigarette. right after that, he moved his foot, suddenly pressing against a beaten up body on the floor that you hadn’t seen. it was the man. your mouth fell open at the bizarre situation.
“now you can say thank you.” seongje said while smirking.
you stayed silent. you never talked to him, you didn’t even know what to say in normal scenarios, what was supposed to come out of your mouth then? after a minute, you decided to speak, just to make the interaction as short as possible.
“thank you. i was too drunk, and i-i couldn’t move. i’m glad someone was there.” you said while looking down at the floor.
“i was there. this is kind of my natural habitat, you know? but what are you doing here exactly?” you were shocked at his remark, but you dismissed it.
“a girl… a girl invited me. and i haven’t gone out for recreational time in like… forever. so i wanted to give it a try. it was a depressing try but, yeah…” god, why were you so awkward? you quickly shut yourself up, realizing you might need to take a social cues specialized course if you ever wanted to make friends again.

“never been more sober in my life.” he said plainly, while blowing his cigarette again. meanwhile, you were sure you were at the verge of cardiac arrest.
“look… i-i am not trying to be disrespectful. i know you are important around here. but i would prefer it if you didn’t get me involved in any kind of like… joke or mockery. i’m too slow and definitely too sensitive for that.”
“come on. just look at me.”
“i’m not trying to get my ass beaten tonight.”
he stepped closer, discarding his already used cigarette.
“i beat an asshole up for you. just told you i don’t ever do that. what more proof do you want?”
“i don’t sleep around.” you quickly said, trying to give a meaning to his words. “i know you do that, and i have seen the girls you do it with… and damn, they are beautiful and charismatic and are nothing like what i could ever be like but… maybe this is like a sick goal, or like a prank… the thing is, i’m not trying to disrespect you when i say you may want to hook up, but it’s like the only half-assed explanation i can kind of give to your words right now… and i-“ you got stopped by the sudden feeling of his fingertips on your chin, pushing up.
“you never respond to what i tell you, but you sure do have a lot in your mind. keep going, though. don’t let me stop you.” you just laughed awkwardly, still not looking at his eyes in fear. why did you took everything he said as a threat? you couldn’t believe someone — let alone seongje — would have genuine intentions with you.
“head is in the right angle. just move your eyes up and it will be perfect.” he said teasingly, his fingers still on your chin.
you decided to make it over as quickly as your body allowed you to.
“okay. after this, if you still want to beat me up, please consider that i’m not the best fighter, i have been eating like super bad lately and i’m still a little drunk. also maybe… that you are one of the most known fighters around here? that would be good to consider too, yeah.” at that point, you were just saying random words, trying to prepare yourself for the possible incoming punch into your face. you knew seongje didn’t fight people unless he was either ordered to by baekjin or if it was a challenge. you had seen his face when his opponent was strong enough to fight back: pure ecstasy. so you knew this wouldn’t be fun for him at all in terms of strength, but what if it was entertaining in another twisted way? maybe he had moved on from having fun with good fighters — maybe it was too repetitive now and he had started to enjoy a predator-pray kind of play.
“you are not going to let this go, right?”
“you already know the answer, right?”
in that moment, you just closed your eyes tightly and opened them again, now looking straight at his. how could you be so anxious just from holding eye contact with someone? maybe because that someone was seongje, and you had heard about a million stories of what had happened when someone had dared to stare.
“should i call 911?” he said teasingly, even though your head was empty at that moment, not being able to respond.
you felt stupid — like your dumb teenager self almost. you were 20 now, why was your heart beating from just looking at a man?
“now, tell me. why did you come here tonight?”
“i wanted to drink.”
“but why?”
“i-i don’t know.”
“you do know.”

in that moment, seongje smirked.
“i know that’s right.” he said simply, letting go of your chin.
you felt like gasping for air, relieved at the loss of his touch. it was giving you crippling anxiety, not knowing if those same fingers would move to your cheek in the form of a punch at any moment.
“that whole speech that you gave me there; about me wanting to fuck you and all that.” he paused, almost amused at your reaction when you heard his choice of words. “you are something else, i swear.”
“i know it’s fucking stupid. thinking THE geum seongje would want that with me.” you said awkwardly while laughing, fearing his reaction.
“i’m not fully denying your claims. but you didn't get all the parts right.”
what was that supposed to even mean? what part was true and which wasn’t? you just kept looking around nervously, still paying attention to the unconscious man on the floor.
“let’s get you a taxi, yeah?”
“what about him?”
“what about him?” he repeated in the same tone as yours.
“are we… just going to leave him there?”
“i’ll be here when he wakes up. he might pass out again when he sees my face, though. but if it makes you happy.” seongje said while shrugging his shoulders.
“s-sure. thank you. i’ll get my own taxi, though.” before you finished your sentence, he was already walking past you, opening an app on his phone.
“your address?”
you didn’t trust him. and he could probably see it in your face, since he passed you his phone immediately.
“just type it in. i won’t look. i’ll delete it after. do you trust me that little?”
“i-i am just a girl who is aware of her own vulnerable situation and how that can make her an easy prey?”
“so aware that a man almost forces himself on you tonight?”
ouch. he got you there. you decided to stop fighting back, just grabbing his phone. you couldn’t help but notice the small contact your fingers made when you did so, and how you lingered there for a second.
“here you go. thank you. you really helped me tonight.” you said while giving him his phone back, smiling lightly while looking down.
“don’t know what came over me neither.” the comment made your heart flutter, knowing now that you weren’t the only one confused by his actions.
when you saw the taxi down the street, you started to panic. you didn’t know how to greet people, but you knew how to say goodbye even less. the anxiety was only even worse after that whole nerve-wracking conversation, which made you have no clear thoughts in that moment.
“i don’t want to see you here ever again. this is not the place for you. if you ever wanna drink, tell me.” your heart jumped again at his sudden words. tell him? about drinking together? you wanted to drink to forget about him in the first place.
“i don’t want to bother you. but thank you.”
“get in the taxi. we’ll talk.” he said while the car stopped, coming to open the door. you just hummed and got in, looking at him for a second before he closed the door.
there, you took your first deep breath of the night, your mind racing with thoughts. thoughts of just him.
days passed. days of him acting like his usual self, and you pretty much doing the same. answering back a bit more. looking up from time to time.
“so you don’t want to drink with me?” you were walking back to the bowling alley again, exhausted. the question woke you up immediately, though.
“what?”
“first word today. that’s what i have to do to get you to talk? be blunt?” he kept smoking his usual cigarette, having the decency to blow the smoke away from your face.
“please, don’t. you are going to give me a heart attack.”
“answer the question.” why was he so persistent? you didn’t even know what to answer. yes, you wanted to spend time with him — the thought alone made your cheeks burn and your stomach turn. but the anxiety that same thought gave you was enough to not even question if you should.
“i-i know you are a busy man.”
“didn’t have you for a liar.”
fuck it. you didn’t think he would give up anyway.
“okay. tonight.” a few seconds passed by, after which he started to laugh hysterically.
your cheeks flushed. you knew it, of course you should have trusted your gut — it was all a sick joke to entertain himself. and you just had to be the most sensitive person on planet earth. your eyes started to get red and veiny, holding in your tears like a champ.
he must have noticed then, since he immediately stopped his track right in front of you.
“i knew you didn’t trust me, but damn. you really do not, like at all.” you just looked down, not really paying attention to him since you were on the verge of a breakdown.
“i’m not playing. i’m laughing at your sudden outburst of confidence, didn’t expect it there. you are just so confusing it’s hilarious.” you looked up for a moment in disbelief. he was looking straight at you, searching for your eyes.
“so? did i fuck it up?” seongje said, starting to walk again. you thanked the gods for that since you were sensing an incoming panic attack triggered by his intense gaze.
you just laughed lightly, trying to play it off.
“i’m just too dramatic. you didn’t fuck anything up.”
“i understand you feel intensely. not the same as dramatic.” perfect, you wanted to cry again. his words hit you like a train, confusing you with his remark. how or when had he even noticed that?
“i-i appreciate that. like a lot.”
“tonight is fine for me. give me your number.” you just stayed silent, lost in your thoughts. was this a good idea? or just your delusions making decisions for you?
“if we are drinking together tonight, you should trust me at least a little more.”
“you know about your own reputation.”
“as far as i know, it doesn’t include being non-consensual with women.”
“it does include dumping them the second you… you know.”
“and you know this is different. i know you know deep down.”

“fine. i was going to save you from the experience of having to text first, but i’ll give you my number and you can do whatever you want with it. deal?” seongje said while putting his arm out, expecting you to give him your phone. you thought about it for a few seconds, since you didn’t believe you would have it in you to text first. but having seongje’s phone number sounded like a dream come true. you accepted, passing him your phone.
“here you go. i’ll be waiting for your text.” he said casually while walking into the bowling alley, separating your ways there.
he was a known player and this was you probably falling for it, just like all the other people before.
it was 8 pm. you were sitting down on your bed, wondering if you should say something. if you were going to do it, you had to do it now. what could you lose, though? even if he was just playing, it would be entertaining for you too. you reminded yourself that not everything had to be so serious, but anxiety always won against your true wants and needs. you wouldn’t let it be like that this time, though.
“hey. still up for drinks tonight?” you texted the number he had saved as “geum seongje :)”.
after just a minute, you received a notification. damn, he was fast.
“i’ll pick you up in an hour” your heart jumped out of your chest at his quick reply.
after 45 minutes, you were ready. you didn’t even know why you had put so much effort into your looks. you knew you wouldn’t look much different from the mess you usually were, but you still tried. although you couldn’t understand why.
while waiting, you realized you hadn’t texted him your address, but he didn’t ask neither. even though he told you he would delete it last time, you guessed he probably hadn’t. you would confront him for that later, you thought.
at 8:59 pm, there was a knock on the door. one of your roommates called your name, saying it was for you.
“who is this boy?” she said teasingly, while you walked to the entrance. there, you saw him — dressed casually but put together. you couldn’t lie to yourself: he looked extremely handsome.
“shut up. i’ll come back later.”
“sure, sure. later.” your roommate said while winking at you. you closed the door right behind you, rolling your eyes.
“sorry for that. they are not used to someone asking for me. even less if it’s a man.”

“did i impress you? i’m fluttered.” he said while getting into the car. “i do everything differently with you, but it doesn’t seem to faze you at all.” you just looked confused, not knowing exactly what he meant. you always were surprised at his kindness, since you had only heard he was the opposite of the person you had met.
“i do appreciate… this. everything. anyone talking to me feels like a gift sent from the gods lately.”
“i don’t want you to say anyone.”
“mmh?” you muttered, confused. he started the car and began driving, not answering back. “by the way, where are we going?”

the other night. the thought only made you sick to your stomach with anxiety. you hadn’t talked about the whole situation again. “mmh? why are you fidgeting so much? because i mentioned that night?” how did he read you so well? or were you that obvious? he was driving, so he could only see you from his peripheral sight. still, he nailed your ongoing emotional state. you decided to be honest, since you had realized in those past few weeks that excuses didn’t work with seongje.
“it was just… so overwhelming. i had never talked to you like that. or looked at you like that. and then you told me i could call you for a drink and that was… unexpected to say the least. but i get really giddy when i think about it so it’s not only anxiety.”
“do you remember the things you said? because they were quite… interesting.” you blushed, even though you didn’t exactly know what he meant. you talked way too much for your liking, and you still were tipsy, so not every part was fully clear in your mind.
“delight me. i’ll drink after so i can bear with the embarrassment now.”
“it’s not embarrassing. it’s more like you gave me a peek of what you really think of yourself.”
“so it is extremely embarrassing. great.” you said sarcastically, letting a small laugh out.
“we’ll talk about it after a drink or too so you don’t feel so embarrassed. come on, we are here.” he said while finishing parking his car.
the bar was pretty, almost elegant. it wasn’t too much, but it definitely wasn’t like the club from last time neither. you both sat down at the bar counter and seongje ordered for the two of you.
“how do you know what i like?”
“trust me. i know my drinks.”
the drinks came and he was right, you liked it a lot. so you ordered another one. and then another one. the conversation was casual, similar to the ones you usually had: he told you about the things he had done that week at the union and the people he had had to fight, and you listened. he spoke so clearly, not slurring his words at all, but you were already in another dimension, still paying him attention, but with other thoughts in mind too. like how handsome he looked. or how much you liked the fact that it was a little loud, so that he had to get closer from time to time for you to hear. you were smiling unconsciously, cheeks flushed at your own thoughts and the alcohol in your body.
“you aren’t listening anymore, mmh?”
“i am. i swear i am. you fought that… that guy… you know.”
“yeah, that guy.” he said while smiling lightly. you loved it when he smirked.

“i mean… we are in like a fucking… date. and you still can’t look at me. when i’ve told you you can.”

“don’t fucking change the topic” he said while adjusting his glasses. he looked a bit annoyed for a moment, almost impatient.
“why do you care so much about me looking at you?” you quickly said, getting a bit defensive too.
“because i want you to trust me. and i want to see you, i wanna look into your eyes. is that too fucking much to ask for, mmh?”
“maybe it is.” you simply said, getting too overwhelmed. you didn’t like people looking straight at you. you felt small and vulnerable, and you didn’t want him to see too much. you didn’t want him to stop whatever you two had going on, but your brain had made you believe that could happen at any second if you quit hiding.
“is this about what you said the other night?”
“i told you. i don’t remember.”
“i will remind you then. you basically said that just the thought of me wanting to… sleep with you, okay? was disrespectful, to me. you said it like it was a fucking sin for me to want you.”
“oh… that.”
“you said you were nothing like someone i could potentially fuck. basically.”
in that moment, you couldn’t hold your laugh in.
“why is that such a problem, seongje? i stand by my statement, anyway. and i also don’t get how that has to do with me not looking at you, or anything really.” you said his name, which you never did. but you were getting annoyed, since deep down you understood the point he was trying to make — and deep down, you knew he was right too.
“i think you are an insecure mess. that’s all.”
you stayed silent. he was always so blunt you thought you had got used to it. but you weren’t prepared for hearing him — or anyone really — say that.
“i-i am going to go to the bathroom.”
“fuck, wait. i didn’t mean-“
“it’s okay. i just need a moment.” you got up from your seat and left to the bathroom. you knew he was right, and maybe the alcohol didn’t let him say it in the most caring way, but he was still reading you too well. which only made your tears come out faster. you tried to compose yourself, splashing a little water around your neck before going back there.
“i think i’m ready to go home.” you said as soon as you were next to him again.
“i’ll get you home. but let me smoke one first, yeah?”
“yeah, sure.”
you got out of the bar and turned the corner. an alleyway half dimmed waited there, in which seongje started to light his cigarette. after a few minutes of silence, just hearing him blowing smoke, he suddenly spoke.
“i know this won’t fix anything, but i can’t leave tonight without saying it.” he looked lost in thought again, staring straight at the wall right in front of him. you just waited in silence, expecting anything and everything really. seongje could be just like a pandora box sometimes.
“this whole night i have had to restrain myself not to get closer, feel you or even kiss you. i don’t want to scare you away. not with that, and fuck… even less with what i say.”
you looked up in surprise again. it seemed like he had a special talent to make you do so. seongje looked like he was waiting for an answer, still staying silent with a lost gaze.
“i-i don’t get you.” you couldn’t get many words out of your mouth. you were shocked and you truly didn’t understand him. you didn’t understand if this was some kind of sudden, weird want, if he craved trying something new in bed, maybe. you knew you looked like someone who didn’t have much experience at anything, just surviving for these past few years. he could have noticed, since it wasn’t that difficult to see and he was really observant. once again, you couldn’t find many other explanations for his words and actions.
he suddenly laughed while moving his head from side to side. you could see how he was holding his cigarette tighter and the way his jaw clenched. you could sense that he was mad.
“you are impossible. fuck… i don’t even know why i’m trying.”
after a few seconds of you staying silent again, he discarded his cigarette and started walking. “let’s get you home.” he sounded cold, just like everyone had said he was. you walked a few meters behind him, holding your tears in. you knew you were a mess, you were fucking it up. you had had a crush on seongje for so long and now he was saying he wanted to get closer, but you were reacting like that? you were aware of how insecure and anxious you were, but not to this level.
“wait, seongje. i’m sorry.”
“come on.”
“please, let’s talk.”
“then fucking talk. do you think this is easy for me? you think i’ve done this before?” he said while turning around, finally looking at you. you locked eyes with him, which you had only done in a few occasions, but this time it broke your heart. you hated being the cause of someone’s anger, let alone seongje’s.
“d-don’t get mad. i don’t want you to be angry.”
“i’m not mad. i’m fucking disappointed.”
that was even worse. way worse, in fact. tears started to spill out, not being able to hold them anymore. he was always so honest, you knew everything he said he truly meant it.
“don’t… don’t fucking do that.” he said while starting to walk towards you, stopping right in front of your own feet. “just tell me what you think about what i said.”
“i think you are not… reflecting on this enough.”
“you really fucking think i have just decided to say it? that i haven’t wondered for nights about a way of doing it without getting this exact same reaction from you?!”
his words seemed to knock all of the air out of your lungs. for the first time, you kept looking at him, needing to see how he really felt, what he meant with his words. “i have never, fucking never, done this before, okay?”
“done what? flirt with a girl?”
“fuck it, you won’t get it unless i say it straight, huh?”
“you know… you know i’m not used to this!”

the tangled linens clung to your sweaty skin like their life depended on it, sticking no matter how many times you’d tossed and turned already. you finally collapsed on your back, giving up on trying to fight the restlessness to stare at the ceiling until the white paint morphed into moving shapes.
just an hour ago, you’d been pinned beneath the man next to you, bodies crashing and fighting to chase the euphoria you’d both agreed to share. your throat was sore from crying out his name, while your mind had grown incredibly hazy from the thick, tense air that filled the small bedroom.
also an hour ago, your limbs had been threatening to give up on you, ready to succumb to the fatigue that washed over you post-orgasm. but now? you laid wide awake, trying to solve the puzzle of your own thoughts, deciphering codes you didn’t know how to begin cracking.

you hid your face in the crook of his neck, inhaling the scent of his woody cologne, warm skin, and a distant memory of cigarette smoke. “this is why i like you” he stated mundanely, the same way you’d order food from a menu or tell a friend about the weather.
you pulled your face back, brows tying into a tight knot at the shock of his words. he looked down at you, lips curling into a soft smile, completely unfazed by the bomb he'd dropped on you.

“as in, my only option. someone i want to be with, y/n” he corrected, watching the gears turn behind your eyes, “do you like me?”

he’s not really a christmas enthusiast at first. to him, it’s just another day with extra noise, decorations, and expectations.
but the moment you drag him into the whole festive mood, he goes along with it without complaints — decorate the tree? sure. go out late to buy baking supplies? fine. wear a stupid christmas sweater? …only if you really want him to.
truthfully, he never understood the appeal of christmas until he met you.
with you, he does find himself quite excited actually — curious about how you’ll react to his gifts, even if he pretends not to care.
he loves the small moments the most: his hands resting on your hips to steady you while you hang the star on top of the tree, your laughter filling the room, the warmth that comes from just being close.
those little things make him giddy in a way he doesn’t quite know how to explain, and realizes that maybe christmas was never about the holiday itself, but about who you share it with.
it was christmas break. the first one you and sieun had decided to spend together.
you were sleeping over at his place, curled up under the warm blankets, when suddenly sieun was dragged out of sleep by the sound of your excited squeals. he groaned softly, eyes fluttering open, only to see you pressed up against the window, practically vibrating with excitement.
the moment you noticed he was awake, or well at least half awake, you spun around.
“sieun! sieun! get up! look!” you grabbed his hand, tugging insistently, bouncing on your toes like you might actually lift him out of bed by sheer enthusiasm alone.
still groggy, sieun squinted and let you pull him closer to the window, his expression flat and sleepy… until he saw it.
snow.
thick, quiet flakes drifting down, coating the streets and rooftops in white — the first snow of the year.
he froze for a second, then exhaled softly through his nose.
“we have to go out!” you declared immediately, already turning away to throw on layers of clothes. “right now. come on!”
you struggled into sweaters and scarves, nearly tripping over yourself in your rush. behind you, sieun sighed, long-suffering. but if you looked closely, there was the faintest hint of a smile on his lips.
before you could bolt out the door, he caught your wrist gently and pulled you back. you looked up at him, confused, just as he slid a pair of gloves onto your hands, adjusting them carefully.
“how do you plan on playing in the snow with bare hands?” he mumbled. “trying to get sick before christmas?”
you blinked, then smiled shyly. “you worry too much.”
“someone has to…” he replied quietly, already reaching for his coat.
outside, the world felt softer. quieter. your breath puffed out in little clouds as you stepped into the snow, eyes wide like a kid seeing it for the first time.
“snowball fight!” you announced suddenly, scooping snow into your gloved hands.
sieun barely had time to react before you lobbed one straight at his shoulder.

he bent down, formed a snowball carefully and threw it.
it missed you completely.

“are you doing this on purpose?” you asked, squinting at him.

you weren’t sure if he was just genuinely terrible at throwing snowballs or if he simply didn’t have it in him to aim at you properly. probably both.
eventually, you slipped on the snow, laughing as you stumbled and sieun caught you instantly, hands firm on your waist before you could fall.
“careful.” he muttered, pulling you a little closer than necessary.
you looked up at him, cheeks pink from the cold, eyes bright.
“…this is nice.” you said softly.
sieun looked away for a moment, snowflakes melting into his dark hair.
“yeah,” he replied quietly. “it is.”
and then he slowly leaned in to kiss you, snowflakes settling softly into your hair as well, making you look even more magical than usually. and for a moment it felt like the world had paused just for the two of you.
ahn suho ໒꒱
suho loves christmas. what’s better than lazing around the house with ridiculous amounts of festive food? he’s genuinely in heaven.
he’s also more than happy to wear matching outfits with you — matching reindeer headbands, christmas sweaters, scarves and gloves in the same colors? absolutely yes.
deep down, he does get a little insecure about not being able to afford expensive christmas gifts for you, since he helps to support his grandma. but instead of spiraling, he puts that energy into making something for you himself!
picture him sitting at his school desk during the last few lessons before winter break, completely focused on crafting handmade earrings or bracelets for you instead of sleeping like usual. brows furrowed, tongue slightly pressed to his cheek — and god forbid someone bumps into his desk, because he’ll panic about the beads spilling everywhere and get uncharacteristically snappy.
he’s also the biggest mistletoe kiss enthusiast. it’s his favorite christmas tradition lowkey. even more than the food, which really says a lot.

and with that he disappeared from the kitchen, leaving you blinking after him in confusion. a few quiet minutes passed, just enough for you to wonder what he was up to, before he suddenly reappeared.
this time, he stood in front of you with a very smug expression, arm raised above the two of you. hanging from his fingers was a sprig of mistletoe.
you stared at it, then at him. “suho…”
“hey,” he said innocently, though his smile betrayed him completely. “you can’t say no to that. it’s a christmas tradition.”
before you could protest, he leaned in, closing the distance with a soft laugh, pressing a gentle, lingering kiss to your lips.
somewhere in the background, the oven beeped, but neither of you moved right away, getting lost in the moment.
oh beomseok ໒꒱
beomseok isn’t exactly familiar with warm, joyful christmases because of his family situation. for him, christmas was usually just a performance — taking pictures by the tree, sitting through dinner, all so his father could maintain the image of a “perfect family man.” the moment it was socially acceptable, beomseok would retreat to his room and spend the rest of the night alone.
because of that, christmas holds very little genuine comfort for him. it was always more of a obligation than genuine joy.
with you in his life though, christmas becomes something entirely new.
he has a lot to learn about the holiday and the spirit behind it, and that unfamiliarity makes him anxious at first. if you ever invite him to spend christmas with your family, he’d worry that he’s intruding or that he doesn’t belong there. despite those worries, being included means more to him than he’d ever openly admit.
gift-giving, however, is where he feels confident. you can absolutely expect expensive, carefully chosen gifts from him — it’s one of the few ways he knows how to show love without stumbling over his feelings. to beomseok, giving you something valuable feels like proof that he’s doing something right, that he’s worthy of standing by your side during a season that still scares him a little.

park humin (baku) ໒꒱
baku would absolutely love infiltrating your family for christmas. of course, he worries about leaving his father alone, but once alcohol gets involved, neither of them really gets to enjoy a festive mood anyway, so your place quickly becomes his safe haven.
he always shows up with an unreasonable amount of fried chicken to your door though. like, bags on bags. claims it’s “just in case” but really he just wants everyone fed and happy, considering he’s “an extra” there.
loves christmas cookies and if you’d ever give him a small bag of your homemade christmas cookies, he will genuinely tear up like a cartoon character, clutching them to his chest and declaring you the best girlfriend in the world.
surprisingly, he’s the one who initiates wearing christmas-themed clothes. ugly sweaters? santa’s hats? matching pajamas? he’s all in.
he especially loves seeing you in his christmas clothes — watching them hang off your smaller frame makes him grin nonstop, pride and affection written all over his face.

hyuntak actually likes christmas more than he lets on. he’s not overly sentimental about it, but he always helps his family with preparations and genuinely enjoys the holiday once it arrives.
that said, he is super easy to irritate, and all the christmas stress does get to him sometimes — crowded places, loud relatives, last-minute errands… you’ll definitely see him grumbling under his breath.
he loves including you in his family celebrations and proudly showing you their own little traditions, acting casual about it while secretly watching to see how you react to everything.
one of the biggest reasons he enjoys christmas is simply because it’s winter. comfy hoodies, cooler weather, and no sticky summer heat — the only sweat he deals with is from basketball practice.

once you stumble into his life though, he’s more or less forced to acknowledge christmas. not because he cares about the holiday itself, but because you do.
he’s lowkey embarrassed by how little he knows about anything domestic or festive — googles things like “how to wrap a present properly” “what do girlfriends like for christmas” “what do you need to buy to bake cookies”
if you ever catch him mid-search, he scoffs and rolls his eyes, muttering that you’re imagining things.
he acts rather unimpressed about the holiday preparations, claiming it’s too much fuss over one singular evening, but he quickly finds things he actually likes about all of this — for example watching you cook. especially when you absentmindedly feed him bites and ask what he thinks. seeing you look up at him for approval makes something warm twist in his chest, which annoys him more than he’d ever admit.
christmas tree lights also do something to him — the way they reflect in your eyes makes him feel oddly fond, almost sentimental about these moments, a feeling he’s not quite used to.
gift-giving grows on him fast too! he pretends he doesn’t care, but he remembers every little thing you mention wanting.
still, he enjoys receiving gifts more than giving them, especially if your “gift” is something meant just for him — a kiss, you dressing up for him, whispering promises meant only for later. that kind of present makes him smirk and pull you closer, deciding he doesn’t need anything else at all.
you were running around the apartment like a madman, trying to prepare everything, determined to make your first christmas with your boyfriend absolutely perfect — a sense of urgency wooyoung clearly did not share.
he was sprawled lazily on the couch, arms behind his head, eyes following you as you rushed past him for the third time. eventually, a crooked grin tugged at his lips.
“babe, it’s no big deal.” he drawled “come on. curl up next to me instead.”
you shot him a glare sharp enough to kill. wooyoung immediately sat up straighter.
“okay, okay, sorry.” he sighed, pushing himself to his feet. then, quieter, almost sheepish “what… what can i do to help? so we can cuddle sooner…”
that softened you instantly.
“okay. go roll the dough for the gingerbread cookies then.”
his brain visibly short-circuited.
“…roll. the what. for what.”
you burst out laughing, grabbing his wrist and dragging him towards the kitchen. “come here, fighter. i’ll show you.”
you placed his hands on the floured counter, guiding his fingers around the rolling pin. “you just press down like this,” you explained, standing close behind him, your hands over his. “and move it back and forth.”
wooyoung glanced down at your hands on his, then at you, a slow smirk spreading across his face. “you’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?”
“focus!” you laughed, nudging his side “you’re terrible at following instructions.”
“yeah,” he muttered, rolling the pin clumsily “but i’m great at this part.” he deliberately leaned back into you, enjoying how close you were, how easily your hands adjusted his grip, and when you were mid-laugh he suddenly reached up and dabbed a bit of flour onto your nose.
you froze. blinked. then gasped dramatically. “oh, you did not just do that.”
before he could react, you leaned forward and nudged your nose against his cheek, smearing flour across his face. wooyoung stared at you for half a second before breaking into a rare, genuine laugh.
“oh my god.” he chuckled, wiping at his face and only making it worse. “you’re evil.”
you were both giggling now, flour on your clothes, on the counter, on each other — the kitchen a mess, but neither of you caring. you leaned in and kissed him softly.
when you pulled back, wooyoung looked at you for a moment, eyes warm.
“i guess i don’t mind the holiday fuss that much anymore.” he admitted quietly, brushing his thumb under your chin.
then, with a grin “but after this? couch. cuddles. no negotiations.”
