I keep seeing a lotttt of posts on here that are of poc stans being way too comfortable saying really hurtful/descriminatory things about white stans, I understand it doesn’t hold the same weight as if white stans were saying racist things to poc stans but it is still weird as fuck and makes me feel quite uncomfortable about being here as a white fan because I don’t feel welcome at all :/
I completely understand why you feel that way, and I’m really sorry you’ve been made to feel unwelcome. The MJ fandom should be a place where everyone feels like they belong, regardless of their race, ethnicity, nationality, or background.
Tumblr doesn’t belong to one particular race, and neither does this fandom because it belongs to all of us. No one should feel like they have more of a right to be here than someone else because of the colour of their skin. We’re all here because we admire Michael and his music.
Every fan deserves respect, every writer deserves recognition and support, and every creator deserves to have their work appreciated based on its quality not judged or dismissed because of their race. There are talented writers and artists from every background, and every single one of them matters.
Nobody should feel uncomfortable participating in this community because of who they are. You are just as welcome here as anyone else, and I hope you don’t let the behaviour of a few people make you feel otherwise.
Discrimination, prejudice, and racial insults are wrong no matter who they’re directed at. We should be building each other up, not creating divisions or making anyone feel like they don’t belong. I really hope people in this fandom start remembering that this community is for everyone, and start treating each other with the same respect they’d expect for themselves.
