HIHIHI a little bit of a long ask but I want to show you some appreciation. After watching the finale I'm just in absolute SHAMBLES knowing what's coming to my baby Dabi in the epilogue. I could honestly write a dissertation on just how tragic and cruel his entire fucking life was, but instead of doing that I of course looked up fanfiction of him and myself to feel something. I personally love long-fics with world-building and plot, so when I saw Burnt Bridges I was elated- and after reading it, I was in RUINS. Truly spectacular, I went from Ao3 to Tumblr and followed you because what a fucking writer man, I felt things as if they truly did happen to me. And I know you've mentioned a possible sequel (with an ending already designed) or even not expanding on it at all, but regardless of what you'll do, I hope you know you have a loyal and PATIENT follower by your side. Again, kudos babe, simply stellar.

Yeah... I do really like the world and relationship dynamic of Burnt Bridges. And want to start back into it now that I'm on my Play Nice hiatus, but we'll see. I do have an ending in mind for it, but the journey itself is a little foggier for me. I want it to be complicated and intense, but I don't have the bandwidth to turn it into a Play Nice xD Plus I do have a lot of other projects I want to finish before Burnt Bridges.

So I do thank you in advance for your patience.

If it helps ease your mind, Dabi is going to be a very central character in the Play Nice sequel. Like, straight up a tritagonist with MC and Tomura.

Since last chapter we were on the topic of how MCs hair looks now, I wanna share my hair has for spinner here:

In both protective styles and when he takes it out between braiding sessions, but I always imagine him as having colour braided into it like his pink hair from the manga

Also, I think I've posted this a couple of times, but this is my Spinner sim!

I've always imagined Spinner wearing protective styles for the same reason - so that he can braid the iconic Spinner color into his hair. (Alternating between pink and purple typically, to be accurate to anime and manga xD).

But also, because I've read that protective styles are just recommended in general when in Japan due to the high-humidity, hard water, and serious lack of affordable products specifically for Afro hair. Though I think they sell American hair products on overseas military bases, so maybe he's able to have his dad get him stuff at a decent price up in Misawa and ship them down.

I imagine he typically does his own braids at home, rather than going to a salon. He's definitely not making the most money, and it seems like specialized Afro salons run pretty pricey in Japan. Though when he goes to America to visit relatives, he gets them professionally done.

(To my black readers, if I've gotten any of this info wrong, by the way, please let me know!! I am by no means ever claiming to be an expert on this stuff. I just try to do my research to incorporate into the story, but obviously, I can only personally know so much.)

Hello! Longtime reader of Play Nice here! It started off as something I'd read while waiting for my high school classes to start to now something I read on the bus home from college. I've always had low self-esteem but I think reading your work has changed my perspective a bit.

I see a lot of myself in your version of Shigaraki. Not all of it but enough. So when I spent these years reading a story of someone like him (like me) being accepted and loved even if he's abrasive, difficult and cynical it really gave me hope that one day I too can have someone love me for all my ugly bits and I don't need to completely get rid of who I am. That despite my surface brusque bitchiness someone sees beyond it amd wants to stay by my side regardless.

I know this is just a hobby for you but for me this little fic has been one hell of an emotional pillar for my last years of teenage hood and now my early twenties. I love your work and I just want you to know that it really got me through some tough times.

Oh my GOD this is such a wonderful thing to hear. Honestly, I put a lot of myself into Tomura in this fic as well, so to hear that such a perspective really connects with people is such an amazing compliment.

The truth is that we all have ugly bits. And you're absolutely right, we do not need to get rid of all of them. Often, those ugly bits are actually the other coin-side of a strength.

Abrasiveness can just as equally be assertiveness. Cynicism can be the realism we need to take action in this fucked up world (and truly, who isn't cynical these days lol).

The key (for me, at least) is just trying to keep that other side of the coin face up. Sand down the edges so that we aren't actively hurting someone, you know? You don't need to change who you are; you don't even need to be the best version of yourself. I think if we can at least try to be a better version of ourselves then we were yesterday, that's truly the best that we can do.

That's one of the things I tried to show through the Play Nice. A lot of the things MC and Shigaraki hated about each other for at the beginning, were things they also came to love and admire about each other once they started exercising those qualities in healthier ways.

Ooooooo, man. What would Tomura listen to? I have a hard time imagining him as a music guy, honestly. Like I don't think he outright hates music, but it's not something he actively seeks out or has any strong preferences for. I think he has strong opinions on what music he doesn't like. But most he's pretty neutral about. Maybe he'll go "huh, this is actually pretty good", but he won't bother to add it to a playlist or anything.

I just think whenever he has the time to sit down and listen to music, he probably just plays video games with headphones on instead. Either at his desk, or on his handheld if on a long drive.

But I feel like MC is the total opposite. She makes playlists for everything and has things she likes across all genres. She listens to a lot of pop, Top 40, and K-Pop when she's on her own or with her friends, but she knows a lot of high-energy stuff annoys Tomura so she'll stick to indie, alt rock, J-Rock when its the two of them (unless she wants to annoy him lolol)

I feel like Panic at the Disco is indeed a happy medium for them xD Maybe Twenty One Pilots, Paramore, Half Alive...

And maybe artists that do his favorite anime openings lol

No, legitimately. That first family Christmas card that AFO makes them all send out together to keep up appearances and the only one smiling is Tomura and maybe the baby xD

This low-key kinda makes me want to write a continuation of that fic after the baby comes, but like, I don't think it would be very happy lol. The way Tomura's and MC's "relationship" would progress in this canon split would be extremely hostile, if it would exist at all just based on how much more deceptive it is. It would essentially reaffirm all of early PN!Tomura's worst qualities as legit strategies. And I feel like MC would have MAJOR postpartum depression.

...and I'm not sure anybody actually wants to read that but me. 😅

If I were any unnamed side character in play nice, I would like to be the tired student librarian who now has to deal with MC and Shigaraki 'studying' in there together on a frequent basis, but who keeps giving our sexy beast Spinner flirty glances across the room or when I'm sorting books.

I know the librarian will end up HATING these two by the end. They see MC and Tomu coming and their first reaction is 🫩🫩🫩

PFFFFFT-- omg. Or the poor bookstore workers at the end of the last chapter? God help any bystander who's near them and a semi-secluded flat surface xD

I just had to drop by and comment on how I’m absolutely so late to the game with the PN fic, but it’s actually so amazing and I can truly say I haven’t read something like it in so long , if ever. I just finished up chapter 22 and it left me so eager and excited that I had to run over to your tumblr and sing your praises! The only good thing about discovering this story so late is that I can just keep reading chapters back to back lol but at the same time I’m trying my best to savor it because I know I’ll be sad once I catch up.
