Yu Qing and Arihi agree to raise him while his parents work in difficult jobs in korea to send money back to cover his needs and interests etc, as they didn't want him to be left raising himself or by a maid (which they couldn't afford anyway)
He gets emails and photos from them but never really connects the 'parents' feeling to them, and instead calls his pseudo-adoptive moms... His moms. Doesn't feel abandoned so much as just doesn't reeeeally care?
Yu Qing does paranormal stuff, they let Yuu Tai see but not participate... Until he's old enough to make his own informed decisions (16-18) Once as a kid with a friend over he does a seance just copying what he saw his moms do, talks to his great grandpa, Su Shan, who encourages him to do whatever his passion is in life, regardless of what others think. This solidifies his interest in the afterlife and ghosts specifically.
While on an almost-date with [Hugo], someone drowns in the ocean, and Yu Tai excitedly watches and talks to the Grim Reaper at work, not sad as everyone else is because he understands it wasn't the end for the person who drowned.
Later he recounts this to his moms, who then talk among themselves and decide it's only fair to finally tell him in explicit detail their own somewhat limited knowledge of the paranormal, including the ritual to request an audience with the Grim Reaper. Before they do this, Yu Qing gives Yuu Tai a Gold Jade Moon Necklace to protect him from any malevolent spirits as he learns more about the paranormal.
