Being the one note reblog on each others' post is really the closest you can get to slow dancing with someone on Tumblr. Anyways we are waltzing in the woods and maybe it's a lonely forest but by god do you get it!!!!

Like I can't express how happy I am that the one person checking the kekkaishi tag has not only read all the way to the end but also reaaally vibes with sumiko. She lives in my mind rent free all the time and while I'm mildly into the shipping game, Yoshimori's relationship with his mom just eclipses everything else. Like how do you live with that. How do you live with that!!!!

It's explained at the beginning that while the casters of shikigami are aware to some extent of what their shikigamis are doing, they're mostly just there as tools to obey the caster's will. It means that even though Yoshimori felt like he was getting closer to his mother during that final stretch of training he was only getting closer to her shikigami who wouldn't necessarily be able to communicate to Sumiko about all the details of how their relationship is changing. All of Yoshimori's feelings towards Sumiko are lost as the shikigami is dispelled. And similarly even though Sumiko technically has an eternity to make reparations with Yoshimori, no matter what happens between them in the spirit world, those feelings will never be able to reach the Yoshimori on the outside.

I'm going bonkers. I don't think I explained it very well but like. How do you live with that??

the yoshimori that took out all of his frustrations on tokimori over sumiko never being there for him. like he’s so torn up over her DYING FOR HIM and she really just chose her responsibilities over her family “for their safety” until the very fuckign end LIKE.

he didn’t Have to give tokimori a body. he didn’t Have to even give him the CHANCE to make things better with chuushinmaru. but he does anyway bc he cares for chuushinmaru so much and doesn’t want him to go without a parent any more bc he KNOWS how it is i. i.

I canNOT stop thinking about how in the series finale for Kekkaishi Yoshimori grants Tokimori a real body to live in the world he created with Chuushinmaru.

Like there were a great amount of parallels between Tokimori and Sumiko, and therefore a lot of parallels between Chuushinmaru and Yoshimori, the greatest one being Tokimori and Sumiko both want the best for their kids, but feel that they can’t actually perform parenthood in the mundane and domestic way that’s expected of them and therefore tries to compensate by using their supernatural powers to make the lives of their kids easier.

And we see what’s happened with Yoshimori and Sumiko. Sumiko, feeling that she’s a failure as a mother, someone who can’t cook or sew properly, latches onto Yoshimori’s sentiment of “not wanting to be the heir” and tries to make that wish come true. We explicitly see that Sumiko is extremely bad at picking up social cues (the example with Masamori enjoying sweets), and that she is completely clueless about others if they don’t speak their feelings out loud. And the thing is, Yoshimori never explicitly tells his mom “I’d rather have you around and be the heir than not be the heir at the cost of you leaving home for 10 years” because that’s just not something any kid would expect on their radar.

Likewise, Tokimori wanted the best for Chuushinmaru, but he couldn’t even bring himself to tell Chuushinmaru that he’s his father because he’s so ashamed of what he’s done (oh, you know, performing rituals while Chuushinmaru was in the womb to grant him powers that eventually poisoned and killed everyone around him, rendering him unable to live in society). Yoshimori sees Sumiko in Tokimori, sees a well-meaning parent who is absent in his son’s life because he feels that he is inadequate, and chooses to grant Tokimori a body, in hopes that he’ll eventually come clean, and in hopes that at least Tokimori will be there for Chuushinmaru in a way that Sumiko never was in his own life.
