i’m actually not over this scene first of all because of how Atsumu’s so explicitly framed as an alternative for Kageyama in a way absolutely no other character is. Hoshiumi, who mirrors Hinata the same way Atsumu mirrors Kageyama, isn’t ever seen as a 1:1 replacement for Hinata. In fact, the manga goes out of its way to explain how Kageyama’s on-court dynamic with Hoshiumi is different from his dynamic with Hinata while simultaneously pushing the similarities between Hinata’s on-court partnership with Atsumu and Kageyama.

Secondly, the manga panels of this scene don’t make it look Hinata’s the star of a ya romance novel. This was an active choice by the animators and I think it’s hilarious. These are the panels for the scene btw.

 in conclusion, Atsumu is the the second love interest in a YA love triangle who’s doomed to never get the girl but like in a Kanoka-Tanaka-Kyoko kinda way which makes for great AUs and Canon Divergence

I definitely did overthink something during this, I was hoping for doodles I swear.

I had styles I wanted to reference from, and the ideas was “maybe she could be a bit silly, and comfortable, while he is a little flustered? Could be nice?”. The general image of holding a cat (small gremlin)- I hope I was able to convey that!
