Summary: After being kicked out by Byron, he is sent spiraling. You found him distressed in the woods, and you comfort him. There you reveal who you truly are and make him an offer he can't refuse.
An: This is an AU where John Polidori is Marko before he turned. Some haunted summer and historical inaccuracies. Warning: angst, alludes to sex, mentions of suicide, blood, and corpses (I think that's it, but this chapter gets a bit dark).

After Polidori had left in a great rush, you spent the rest of the night hunting in the forest. You were lucky that the hotel was located near dense and lush woods. Due to wanting to keep a low profile, you limited yourself to one kill and made yourself meticulously clean the scene. So you burned the body and any other flora that might have been soaked in too much blood.
You watched over the fire to make sure it was controlled and didn't raise suspicion. Leaning toward the fire, you could feel the radiating heat against your cold skin. The warmth had reminded you of Polidori's hand against your cheek and his warm lips against yours. It was what you wanted, yet you still knew his mind was not fully with you. A part of him was stuck with Byron, and you can only hope he one day sees how harmful he was.
The fire soon burned out, leaving only ash in its wake. Making your way back to the hotel, your thoughts still lost in the nights events. As soon as you got back to your room, you tucked yourself into bed. Wanting to be done with this night, you closed your eyes, letting sleep take you.
As the day dragged on, you tried to get yourself up in the chance that Polidori would be looking for you. But because you had stayed up a couple of hours during the last couple of days, along with being significantly less fed, you were weaker. You couldn't fight the sleep no matter how much you wanted to.
Night came back around, and your body finally felt the need to wake up. That need comes from hunger, the only downside to you chasing Polidori is less feeding. You've learned how to not act on impulse of hunger. Keeping your mind occupied usually helped, and lucky you had just the person. As quickly as you could, you got ready and made your way to the gardens.
You stayed at the entrance where you had met the night before, but he never came. As the night dragged on a pit settled in your stomach. Worry took over your thoughts. What if the kiss was a mistake? Maybe he was home sick, and he acted on impulse. Maybe, you didn't even want to think this was true, but maybe that kiss was the end. The end of your friendship and the end of your hopes of being anything more.
As the sun threatened to come back up again, you lost hope that he would show up. You couldn't even bring yourself to feel hungry, insted you just felt sick. Confused and hurt, you made your way back inside.
"Excuse me." One of the hottel porters stopped you as you walked past.
"Yes?" Pulling yourself from your thoughts, you turn back to look at him.
"Dr. John Polidori wanted this to be delivered to you." The porter handed you a neatly sealed letter.
"Where is he?" you ask, looking from the letter in your hands back up to him.
"He and the Lord checked out this afternoon."
"I see, thank you." He nods in response and returns back to what he was doing before.
You quickly made your way up to your room to open the letter. There were too many possibilities of what could be written. Anything from "he was sorry" to "he never wanted to see you again." You opened it, taking the paper out, and took a deep breath before reading.
"I deeply apologize for my sudden exit last night. I want you to know I do not regret what happened last night, but I do beg for your patience as I am still sorting out my own feelings. Several new emotions have come to light, and I need time to understand them.
Byron has rented out a lake house a day's travel from the hotel and has invited Shelly and his partners. I have left the address below in hopes that you could come visit. I will be here waiting in hopes that I did not ruin things between us."
You let out the breath you were holding in, relieved that your worst fears were not true. In fact, he instead had invited you to visit him. You felt so relieved that he held no regrets in what had happened. Quickly you packed your things. You were done fairly quickly since you didn't have much. The plan was to sleep through the day, then leave as soon as you woke back up. And take whatever horse you could easily take and be on your way.

The moonlight shined bright in the night sky. Reflecting perfectly against the dark blue of the lake below. Polidoru stood on the rocky shore, attempting to skip rocks. His book was left abandoned on the small table a bit far behind near some trees. He came out in the hopes of getting his mind off the day's events, but when the book was useless, he took to skipping rocks.
Without thinking, he started to skip the rocks harder and harder to the point where they didn't skip but fell straight to the bottom. Which is what he wished happened to Byron's comments. He simply wanted to be part of the converstation that he had a right to be there too. But all he ever got in return was a "Do shut up, John," followed by a half meaninfull apology. And yet his voice and eyes grew softer when he apologized. Only for Byron to bark at him to row the boat like it was his only purpose there.
You stood watching him from behind some trees, trying to work yourself up to talk to him. You didn't want to feel nervous to speak to him again, but you were. Of course you were after that night's events and only left with a letter. Finally, you muster enough courage to step out from the woods and closer to the rocky shore.
"You're not very good, Polidori." Your voice snapped him from his thoughts. He quickly turned in your directions with a smile across his face.
"You came." His blue eyes were filled with joy. He had fully expected you not to show up, that you would think he was too much trouble and go back home.
"Yes, I did." You both were clearly nervous, so when he didn't respond, you tried to fill in the conversation. "I was able to get a friend to house me not too far away. " The truth is those 'friends' were people who lived in the home you broke into and killed for a long overdo meal.
"Good, good." He fidgeted with the smooth rock in his hands. His eyes moving back and forth from the rock to you. That night hung like a dark cloud over your friendship. You took a few more steps forward.
"I came to make sure I didn't ruin our friendship that night." When small talk was no help, so you decided to get it off your chest.
"No, no, you ruined nothing." He was quick to reassure you. "I apologize for not being able to talk to you in person. But I had to write the letter when I was unable to find you throughout the day."
If anything, he felt like the one to ruin everything. He knew he liked you for some time before he started traveling with Byron, but before he had never had the courage to say anything. He knew the time he has spent with Byron has changed him. And that kiss with you reflected that. Not only has he grown more daring but also lost. He had the courage to kiss you because of how comforting you were to him. After everything Byron has said and done, you were still there caring and maybe even loving him.
"I understand, but I wish you would have stayed longer for us to talk."
"Wherever Byr-M'lord goes, I must go."
"Your work takes you." You knew it wasn't as simple as work, but he was trying to cover it up as that.
"My work is important to me." Once again, work held a double meaning.
"That's perfectly fine as long as you allow yourself a personal life." He hums at your words as he looks out at the lake and the beautiful mountain landscape. He always thought everything looked better under the moonlight.
"Care to join me for a walk?" He reached out his hand, which you happily took with a smile. It was like you both fell right back into place with each other like nothing happened. But it did, and it still occupies a part of both of your minds. You took a move and walked slightly closer than you usually do. He didn't push you away at all. Instead, he quietly embraced it. The both of you walk in a comfortable silence.
"I have written a play." He broke the silence.
"Have you? And how have I never heard of this work?" You looked directly at him in shock that that he didn't share this with you before. You knew he had a love hate relationship with writing because of his father pushing it upon him as a child.
"It was never up to standard."
"Your standard or the Lord's standard," you say in a joking manner, but you wouldn't be surprised if it were true.
"You don't think highly of him, do you?"
"No." He almost laughed at your blunt response. It was refreshing to not have somebody playing a mind game.
"I will get you a copy as soon as I can."
"Good, I must read it." and like that, the two of you continue your nightly walks.

It has been 3 nights since you have arrived. You have only met up with him 1 other night beforehand. It's like he has started a habit of ghosting you. You sat waiting at the same spot, observing the moonlit scenery. You turned to look in the direction you heard footsteps coming from. You see Polidori walking down the path.
"I started to think you were avoiding me again."
"I apologize, but my work-" He attempts to explain his actions as he took the seat on the opposite side of the small round table.
"Has the Lord been working you like a dog?" You snapped a bit. Your dislike for the lord has only seemed to grow.
"I simply help to entertain his guests."
"Ah" That's all you could muster up as a response. With the Lord's history and his guests being more than an interesting bunch, you doubt they engaged in normal conversation. If you asked him, you doubt he would tell you specifically.
You didn't need to ask at all. You had followed them into a cave the night before. You were able to keep yourself hidden because you knew how to maneuver caves better than any humans could. You had watched as they indulged in tobacco and explored the hard hitting questions. Like the perception of beauty and the monsters that could lie within. Ironic they talked about monsters unaware one had been watching them. You wish you could say you followed their little experiment, but you were more focused on Polidori. Watching him observe the other and messing with his glasses.
"He has grown...fascinated with them." His voice brought you back.
"Shelly, Clair, and Mery?" He nods in confirmation. "Quite the progressive trio." The tree had come under fire by Mary's father for their well known relationship between the three of them. Along with scrutiny from the public because of Shelly's antichurch views. As well as modern feminist views from his wife, Merry.
"That's exactly what intrigues him."
"So while trying to escape scandal, he in fact found more."
"He is an interesting person. Anything good seems to be scared away by his... mannerisms, leaving only the bad."
"Except for you." Your comment was met with his silence, making it clear that something was on his mind. If something was weighing on him, you just wanted him to spit it out instead of keeping it from you. You had deduced a while ago his feelings for Byron, and you hoped Polidori knew you wouldn't be judgmental. You would simply try to talk sense into him about how awful Byron was for him. When he still didn't respond, you followed his gaze out onto the lake.
"Do you think a person can love more than one person at a time?" He turned his to look at you, his eyes watching for your reaction.
"Love has many definitions."
"Romantic love" Polidori clarifies.
"Yes, of course. What matters is if they are good for that person and for each other." You turned your body to meet his gaze as you spoke. He was relieved when you didn't react negatively, but still too many questions remained. You move your hand above his own balled up fist on the table. Feeling the warmth of his hands radiating onto yours. His warmth is always so comforting to you. He unballed his fist to entwine with yours.
"Come, walks in the moonlight always help." You stood up, pulling him up with you as you led him away from the table.
"They do." He lets you lead him down the shore.

Polidori had let you know that he would be busy tonight, so you decided to take the night to hunt. Granted it was much harder with the area being so isolated. Granted, you had taken 1 or 2 of Byron's servants to feed on just for the sake of spite. At this rate you would have to do it again.
You were put on high alert when you heard a rapid heartbeat very close by. Desperate for a good meal, you followed its direction without question. Only to be shocked at seeing Polidori on the path, clearly distressed. The little luggage he did have lay across the path as he stopped and kicked at them. He stopped as he panted out of breath. His hands came to his face, wiping away tears.
"Polidori, are you alright? What has happened?"
"Awful, Awful man." He kicks his luggage again.
"Polidori, calm down and speak to me. What has happened?" Grabbing him by the shoulders in an attempt to get some sort of information. His talking was sporadic.
"I have given him so much, and yet it is not enough. I-I loved him, and he treats me like...like I am nothing to him. " Before you could give your opinion, he continued. "I know he cared for me too, but his words hurt too deeply." You let go of him, and he sat down at the base of a tree.
You look around at all his stuff, and an unmarked vial of what you assumed was medicine was lying on the ground. Picking it up, you inspected it: no label, and now looking around, no medical bag either. Why would he carry this specific vial with him?
"Polidori, what is this?" He saw the vial on your hands, and he tried to form an explanation, but he seemed to have lost his voice. His head hung low as he began to speak.
"I didn't know how much more I could take." Fresh tears roll down his cheek. You kneeled down next to him, the vial still in your hand. You didn't know he was hurting this much all because of Byron. Did he even feel a lick of shame for what he has done, the mindset he has driven Polidori to be in.
You wanted to take revenge for Polidori, but what would be better than you taking revenge for him. Polidori taking it for himself, and you had the ability to give him such power. You choose your next words carefully. "I can give you something better.
"What?" He is looking at you confused at your response. Did you pity him so much that you chose to help him leave? Was he so little to you too?
"Polidori, you can hurt him back. I can make you stronger, you can make him feel the same pain that you have felt. Don't you want to make him feel beneath you?" One of your hands came to his cheek. Wiping away the tears rolling down. His eyes study you, contemplating your offer. He would be lying if he said revenge didn't sound satisfying, but how exactly was your plan.
"Yes" after all it was you after all, the only person that seems to love him through everything that he has gone through as of late. You and your offer were like a shining light for him.
You brought him in for a gentle kiss. You don't fully pull away, instead, lean closer to his ear and speak in a hushed tone. "You must promise me you won't be scared of me."
"How could I be scared of somebody so stunning" You couldn't help the smiles that his comment brought to your face. It helped to calm your nerves.
You pull away from him so he can see your vampiric features. Your sharp, prominent features and piercing yellow eyes stare back at him. You opened your mouth trying to get out an explanation, and his eyes dropped down to your fangs. He didn't scream or run and hide, insted he had a look that just told you he was piecing everything together.
The vial that was still in her, you had smashed to the ground. Taking one of the bigger shards to cutting your palm. You let some of your blood drip down your arm as you bring it in front of Polidori. He leaned forward so his mouth was against your arm. His eagerness had shocked you along with the soft kisses he planted up your arm. Once he got to your palm, he leaned his head back to allow the blood that pooled in your hand to seep into his mouth and down his throat. The taste was like nothing he's ever had before.
"That's enough." Pulling your arm away, you let him slump against the tree. He lay against the tree as he felt dazed and relaxed. No drug or alcohol could ever give him this feeling. The feeling of all his problems and worries being swept away. You stay next to him, giving him more time to become clear minded enough to get up.

Byron had been sleeping in his uneffect by the day's events. Only awoken by the rushing wind outside. The shadows of the swaying branches danced around his room. There was no reason for him to feel unease, but his gut told him to be on alert. He got up to look out the window to maybe see something but found nothing but strong winds.
A booming nock at the door pulls his attention. Strange, he had nobody to disturb him until he had come out on his own. He made his way to the door and opened it swiftly, ready to confront who or what was there. He found nothing. He was about to step out to investigate when the loud sound of the window opening made him quickly turn around.
There stood Polidori, his hair and clothing disheveled. You stepped in quietly, shutting the door behind you, remaining undetected by Byron.
"Poli? How dare you break into my room after what you have done." Polidori scoffed at him. The wind had died down, leaving the trees to settle and cast a shadow on Polidori.
"How dare I? How dare you think yourself so above me you think it's alright to treat me in such a way. You deserve to feel every bit of pain I've felt and more." Byron seems so unbothered, like he thought he still held power over Polidori. It angered Polidori to no end, but it didn't matter because now he was strong, better, and above Byron and his mind games.
"Come now, Poli, don't make empty threats." He held his arms out in hopes Polidori would embrace him. Like they had done many nights before, but not tonight. Polidori had fallen for that too many times and refused to fall again.
"They are not empty, Byron." His name slipped off Polidoris's tongue like poison. Polidori walked out from the shadows, revealing his vampiric features coming to light. His piercing yellow eyes stared down angry, hungry, and unwavering at Byron. For once in a very long time Byron had felt scared and out of control. He took steps back as Polidoru started to step forward.
"I see now, this is a dream. A nightmare made by my subconscious, out of what? Guilt, perhaps. Well, I don't feel the guilt not one bit, you betrayed me, hence I had to send you away." Byron stood his ground in the belief this was all a dream. Polidori came to stand right in front of Byron.
"A betrayal you more than deserved." Polidor grabbed a hold of Byron by the shoulders as his mouth went to his neck and bit down, drawing blood. Was it the most practical way to pin down a kill? No, but he was new and only acted on anger and hunger.
Coming out from the corner that you were watching from and come up behind Byron. You held Byron against you to keep him still and not squirming.
"I always hated hearing your voice." Your other hand came to his mouth. You adjusting his head to allow Polidori more access to Byron's neck.
It didn't take long for Byron's body to go limp in your arms. When Polidori was done, he pulled away, licking the blood off his lips. You both let go, letting Byron's body hit the floor. You watch Polidori as he takes a few steps back, looking down at Byron, seeing the many who had made him feel so little, reduced to nothing. He'd never felt this free a day in his life before. He never thought he could feel like this, and he had you to thank.
"How do you feel?" You step over Byron, coming to stand in front of Polidori. Your hands came to both sides of his face, wiping away some of the blood that rolled off his lips.
"I've never felt better." He pulled you against him as he brought you in to a deep and loving kiss. You returned the kiss, feeling as if you had won over everything that came between the two of you. The kiss quickly escalated as he got greedier. You weren't going to stop him. Why would you? It was everything you've wanted. To love him and for him to love you back. To feel his lips against yours and not have to hide anything from him anymore.
Polidoris's mind was working a mile a minute. And after a very long time, it wasn't from stress. He had always felt so tightly wound, each day getting tighter until now. There was no weight, no worry, or no doubt. All this pressure had been winding up to its impending release. He had always thought that meant his death, but he was thinking of the wrong type of death.

The two of you had slept peacefully throughout the day. Polidori was the first to stir from his slumber after the sun had gone down. He was slightly disoriented with brain fog. He gathers his discarded clothes, putting them back on. More details of the previous night's events came back to him. With those memories coming back, he didn't want to turn around in the chance they were all true. But nevertheless, he had to, and there lay Byron, cold and bloodless.
"What have I done?" He feels his breaths get shorter as it's confirmed it was all true and he had done this.
"Polidori, what's the matter?" You stirred from your own sleep, seeing Polidori trembling as he looked upon Byron.
"I have become something awful." His voice was shaky and distraught.
"He got what he deserved." You assured him he had no reason to feel guilt for getting back at his abuser. But it was very clear he did feel a great deal of guilt. Trembling, he took his steps to the window. He knew he couldn't be seen back in this house, he was fired, for God's sake. His only option was to leave the way he came in.
"Polidori? What are you doing?" He quickly opened the window again, jumping out. To his surprise, he landed with ease and little pain even though he just jumped from the second story.
"Polidori!!" You quickly run to the window, looking down to see if he landed ok. You saw he was perfectly fine and running. He ran back into the forest without even looking back.
"Polidori, come back!!" He didn't. He just kept running. While you stood frozen in your place, you had it. Everything you wanted, you got last night, but now. He ran and you just stood there.

Polidori knew he couldn't go back home, not like this, and why would he want to? He felt like he had made so many mistakes, but this could be a chance at a new life. So like any person seeking new chances, he stowed away on a boat to America. He hadn't gotten good at feeding at all. Not like it was any easier while being a stowaway. He satisfied himself with rats here and there just to keep him from not dying. But he tries to keep his spirits high because as soon as they docked, it was a fresh start.
The boat docks late at night, but he still had to wait for enough staff to leave to make his exit. What he didn't expect was to hear screaming that was quickly cut off. Standing near the ladder, he debated whether to investigate or not.
Before he could make his decision, a man came falling down, hitting the floor with a hard thump. He gasped for air, wanting to scream for help. Out of pure starvation and instinct, he got on top of the man keeping him down, messily feeding from his neck. He still couldn't get enough of the bliss that came from feeding.
Unfortunately, he was interrupted by a young man coming down. Polidori looked up to see the light and a man with long jet black hair down to his shoulders. What looked like a tribal necklace hung around his neck. His clothes, which weren't anything special in particular, had fresh blood stains. Polidoru knew he had found another vampire, well, more like the other way around.
"Come on up," he invited Polidori before he climbed back up himself. Polidori followed in the chance that he could help get more blood.
"David, look what I found." He grabbed Polidori by the shoulder, pushing him toward the other vampire on deck. He was looking through the dead sailor's stuff for cash. He had shaggy platinum blond hair. Polidori could only see his worn trench coat.
"Dwayne, I swear if it's some weird-looking rat again," David said without looking up yet.
"Not a rat, a stowaway," Dwayne responded. David looked up from what he was doing and looked Polidori up and down. It was clear to anybody that Poilidori was not fed well and was considerably tired from the travel.
"So you're like us, huh?" Motioning to the blood that had stained his mouth and chin. Polidori nods.
"There's more where that came from if you'd like to join us...uh," David offered.
"John Marko Polidori." Using his full name earned him a chuckle from David and Dwayne.
"You only really need one name." His first thought was to continue as Polidori. But he was meant to have a fresh start and get away from his past mistakes. John was too personal, only reserved for family, a family he was trying to forget. And Polidori would only ever remind him of who he escaped, Byron, and who he had left, you. That left only one name left.
"Marko" David nodded, committing it to memory.
"Let's get you to feed Marko."

I like to call it Vampolycult. I think the double pun suits them so well. Obviously the Lost Boys are all together but this can/does also include Michael and Star because that’s what they were trying to do. Make some kind of weird, evil, found family, polycule.

Scandal had plagued Lord Byron's reputation, landing him in social exile. In an attempt to escape social ruin, he embarked on a journey across Europe. He had hired the young Dr. John Polidori as his personal physician to join him on his travels.

John Polidori had recently been hired by the very well known Lord Byron. Byron had chosen Polidori based on a recommendation from Sir Henry Halford, who is the royal physician for King George the third. This fact added to his ego as well as his nerves.
Such nerves had made it hard to sleep, so like any sleepless night, he went out for a stroll. It's not like the city ever truly rested, but anything was better than being cooped up in his room with nothing but his thoughts.
Most nights you walked aimlessly around the city, meticulously planning where and whom you could sink your teeth into. Years of being a vampire have taught you the best way to hunt. The cleaner the kill, the longer you could stay in one city. You did allow yourself to splurge on Kills once you planned to leave.
Through your walks you stopped to socialize in order to keep up appearances of a sweet and kind-hearted person. It was annoying to play pretend with what you saw as food. Food that was too wrapped up in their own problems to realize they were being picked off one by one.
Once you found yourself in a more deserted part of town, you waited for whatever poor drunken soul came stumbling by. The wait was rather short, as soon as he stumbled by, you began to trail behind him, surveying the area before going in for the kill. Usually you would never bother with lost drunkards for more than 2 weeks of being in a new town. But you had grown quite attached to the area, well, not the area itself but a person who lived here.
Dr. John Marko Polidori
Whom you realize was about to interfere with your hunt. Over the time of your friendship, your senses have become attuned to him, like his heart, his breathing, and voice. You could hear him about to turn the corner onto the street you were trailing the man on. Unfortunately, that meant you had to abandon this hunt. Backing down was never your favorite choice, but for the sake of having a run in with Polidori, it seemed like a reasonable choice.
Crossing the deserted street, you walk toward him, so when he turns the corner, he is met with the sight of you. Seeing you snapped him out of his spiraling mind. A smile makes his way on to his face as he greats you.
"You're not on your usual path."
"I needed a change of scenery. Care to join me?" He was slightly relieved he bumped into you. He has grown comfortable with you over the year you have been here. The two of you had spent countless nights talking and laughing, although he never seemed to be able to catch you during the day.
"I would love to."
You hook your arm around his as you both start to stroll down the street once again. The familiar touch of your cold hands soothed his nerves. You had always had cold hands even during the summer, which he had explained away as low iron.
"I've heard of your upcoming work for Lord Byron. Congrats are in order." You were happy for him he deserved a big job like this. But a part of you was saddened with the thought of him leaving.He mumbled a thank you, his nerves coming to the forefront of his mind.
"Are you nervous?"
"Are my feelings that clear?" He looks at you with worry carved into his face. There was a glint of worry behind his beautiful eyes. You wanted nothing more than to help take it away.
"Come now, you will be just fine."
"I should not be 'fine', I should be good—no, great." He raises his voice as he speaks. He takes a breath, composing himself. Your eyes roam his face and hair, his tight curly blond hair slightly dishulvered, evedence of his messing with ot earlyer.
"You will do amazingly, and it's not like you'll be working the whole time. You get to see all of Europe. Isn't that exciting?"
"It is quite exciting, my father has already given me a list of things to do in Bientina."
"See, not so scary." You lightly nudge him, trying to snap him out of his spiral.
"No, not so scary." He smiles and turns to you as he confirms that some aspects of this trip he is excited for.

Rumer had it that Lord Byron would be taking a rest from his travels at a popular hotel in the Netherlands, and wherever Byron was, so would Polidori. He had sent you a letter about his travels with some sketches of fashion around Europe, and you have started a collection of his letters and drawings. But his letters didn't help you from missing him. Joining him on his night walks made you feel more human and less like you were left out in the cold. And you had made him feel the same, you made him feel genuinely fully heard.
You had arrived a couple nights before in case the rumors were true. It was a risky move, staying somewhere so public with few places to keep to yourself. As soon as you arrived, you forced yourself to stay up at least a couple of hours during the day. But you knew how to handle yourself to keep yourself from being found out or harmed. Keep to the second floor, fewer windows, but keep to the rails so you could have a view of the entrance.
You looked to the lobby from the second floor, watching people come and go. You tried to keep your brain active enough to stay awake. The sound of a carriage coming to a stop outside caught your attention. Your eyes went to the entrance, waiting and hoping Polidori was the one to walk through the entrance.
Lord Byron walked through the entrance with his dog by his side and an air of authority. Not far behind, Polidori trailed behind him. It had been months since you had seen him, and it doesn't seem like the trip has changed him at all.
Your attention was pulled away for a moment when a woman rushed past you, making her way down the stairs. She stood near the entrance, watching the Lord and fixing her dress to be perfect. You recognized the woman to be Claire Clairmont, she had gotten a reputation for sleeping with Percy Shelley and his wife Mary.Polidori followed the hotel clerk who was showing them to their rooms, Lord Byron strayed when he saw Claire.
"Foolish of me to tell you where I'd be." The Lord stated in a cold tone
"And unforgivable to greet me thus, my lord." The clerk and Polidori wait at the foot for the Lord. As you watched on, you could tell there was a history between the two. Even as the two interacted, your eyes were drawn back to polidori, he looked troubled. Your interest was piqued at what could be troubling to him.
"Dr. John Marko Polidori" Byron motioned to Polidori, who stood behind him. Polidori fixed his face to seem more natural, although his eyes hid something deeper.
"M'lords companion," There was a slight smirk on his lips that faded as quickly as it appeared.
"And physician." You couldn't help but look over his features, always so delicate and perfect.
"Are you ill?" Worry seeped into Claire's voice.
"The world is ill, missy. I am well." Lord Byron and Polidori were about to turn back on their path before Claire cut in.
"I must speak with you."
"Now? This moment?" Lord Byron turned back, while Polidori's eyes shifted between the two, annoyance etched on his face.
"Yes," Lord Byron nods, then turns to Polidori, handing him the leash to his dog.
"Poli, tell that cretin Burger to feed Mutz. He's constantly forgetting." Polidori shifts his medicine bag to one arm so he can take the leash with a sigh.
"As you wish." There was bitterness in his tone. You watched as Polidori shifted to the side, allowing Claire to take his place next to Byron. The two walking up the stairs follow the clerk to his room. While Polidori stood there looking at Poutier then the dog beside him.
You did not particularly like Lord Byron, the papers you have read on him have told of his crude actions, yet some still praised him for being a "brilliant poet."
You quickly make your way down the stairs. The adrenaline of seeing him again came at you full force. Stopping on the platform before the final steps in order to stay away from the sun. You were sure you were smiling like a fool when he looked up at you. His face lit up with glee at seeing you again after months.
"I was not aware you were here." He felt as if he could finally breathe again as soon as he saw you. Finally, somebody he could talk out all his worries to without judgment.
"Haven't you heard everyone is here" You take a couple steps closer to the edge of the stairs to get closer to him without coming in contact with the sun. When you came close, the dog at Polidoris's side let out a whine. He halfheartedly pets the dog, thinking he just wanted attention.
"When did you arrive? Was the travel alright?" The question stumbles out as word vomit. He didn't want to sound so desperate, but he was. He was desperate to talk to somebody who didn't take him for a fool.
"I arrived a few days ago, and the travel was fine, nothing worth complaining about. And your travels?"
"It has been exciting, to say the least. It's truly been a great experience." He debated whether or not to admit his troubles. He came closer to the steps as he began, "But if I'm being hones—" He was cut off by the dog, Mutz, barking at you repeatedly. Slightly spooked, you take a step back.
"I apologize, he's usually not like this." Bosun stopped barking once you backed away.
"It's alright." You do your best to not sound shaky. Mutz was still not happy with your presents as he growled, baring his teeth.
"Hush now, Mutz." He scolded in a hushed tone in a failing attempt to hide his agitation.
"If you'll excuse me, I had some plans that I really should get ready for."
"Oh...well, don't let me keep you any longer." He had a constant feeling of being brushed aside as of late.
"Mutz, you stupid dog." He didn't mean it in a crule way he just needed to put his disappointment somewhere. It's not like he could possibly know Mutz was trying to protect him from a vampire.
"Polidori" You called to him from the top of the stairs. "Perhaps I can meet you in the gardens later tonight."
He looks up at you from where he was standing. "I will be there" he states as you nod and head back to your room. Polidori lets out a breath of relief at knowing he didn't fully scare you off.

You had gone out to the gardens as soon as the sun had gone down. Several people had passed by you, and it took a lot of restraint to not sink your teeth into one of them.
"Hello," Polidoris's voice snaps you out of your thoughts. You quickly engulf him in a hug, and he happily hugs you back.
"It has been too long" you say with a giant grin on your face as you both pull away.
"I have written letters." He lets out a friendly laugh.
"They're not enough. I have missed you."
"I have missed you as well, shall we?" He gestures to the path leading deeper into the gardens. You both start to walk, matching each other's comfortable stride. He talked about the people and places he's seen on the trip with greater detail than what was in his letters. As for you, you filled him in on any gossip that had been going on around the town.
As you both continue walking down the flower lined path, you spot Lord Byron himself walking toward the two of you. Polidori's body stiffened as Byron approached. "M'lord." He greeted before introducing the two of you. You politely shake his hand, hiding your distaste for him.
"So you're the one he blabbers on about at times." You couldn't help the smiles that came to your face.
"I thought you were a myth, I didn't think Poli would have a friend longer than a couple weeks." He chuckled at his own comment to disguise how rude it was.
"I am no such myth. We have been close for quite a while."
"Is that so?"
"He has been charming enough to keep me around."Your statement had made Polidori's heart skip a beat. He had felt the same about your time together, you made him feel like everything was at peace. He wished your time together could last forever every time.
"Yes, well, he does have an idiotic charm to him, doesn't he?" Polidoris's smile quickly dropped when the word "idiotic" was used to describe him. Byron's comment upset you. Polidori got his doctorate at 19 and was given this job on recommendation by the king's physician. Polidori is far from idiotic. With no sign of Polidori standing up for himself, you took the matter into your own hands.
"At times the idiots are the ones blind to intelligence." You take Polidori by the hand, leading him further down the path and away from Byron. He turns back once, seeing Byron continue on his way back inside.
"He's going to be upset by that."
"Let him be, he shouldn't be treating you like that in the first place." You wanted to make it clear that you were upset at his treatment and so should he.
"It's all in good fun."
"You didn't seem to enjoy it." He avoided eye contact with you instead, looking at the flowers in the moonlight. You could tell he was being closed off about something, you just hoped he knew he was safe with you.
"He can be...kind, at times." He chose his words carefully in an attempt to hide his own feelings for Byron. He knew those emotions would be considered wrong by social standards. But also wrong because he held feelings for you too, he felt caught between the two.
"Thank you for standing up for me." He mumbled as he looked at you.
"Anytime, I don't like seeing anybody treating you like that." You truly hated it. Polidori was so smart and full of passion for the things he cared about. He confided in you with his problems and doubts. Doubt had always plagued him, and you didn't want anybody like Byron to feed into that and make things worse.
Polidori's stride slows before he comes to a stop. He knew you cared, but seeing you willing to stand up to a lord for him only made his feelings for you grow. It felt safe with you. You cared, listened, and now stood up for him.
"Everything alright?" Hearing his heart race made you worried. You turned to him, coming to stand in front of him. He looked you in the eyes, his big blue eyes were filled with turmoil.
"Poli-" You were cut off by his hand coming to your cheek, pulling you into a deep kiss. If your heart could race, it would. His lips were soft and warm only standing as a reminder that he was human. Your hand comes to his chest while his other hand comes to the nape of your neck. You could feel his heart going a mile a minute. And you hated how hungry it made you, hearing his blood pump through his veins. You held him close yet carefully not to hurt him. You couldn't help that a part of you wanted to feed from him. He pulls away panting as he catches his breath. His warm hand still resting on your cold cheek.
You both stayed in each other's arms for a while. There was a shared understanding of the emotion between the two of you, the care and love you both felt in this growing relationship. Pilidori felt an overwhelming amount of joy he had felt in a long time. He was pulled out of the moment when you pulled away from him.
You felt hungry, really hungry, and being close to his racing heart didn't help. You wanted to stay and tell him everything about how you've felt and more. Before you could come up with an excuse to leave, he cut in.
"I should go, Byron invited a few others to join us for breakfast, and I should be well rested."
"Yes, of course." He leans in, kissing you on the cheek before walking back up the trail. Leaving you with your mind slightly fuzzy and hungry.

I keep getting sucked down rabbit holes while I'm doing research for this fic, and it leads me to get more and more ideas for side plots/details that I don't have room to add. I just need to get it done alredy!!!😭
I'm going to take inspiration from @sparrow-the-jester to project onto favorite characters.
So now I hc that Dwayne struggled a lot with body image. So when he was human, he tried to change the things he could, like hair and eyebrows, to try and fit in. Because of this, his hair is damaged and is not as healthy or wavy as it used to be. The vampirism would have fixed his hair to look healthier but didn't restore his waves, and I think that eats at him a little.
