❛ ‑— DOM.
❛ ‑— CLAUD.
Claudius couldn’t believe Romulus and Dom had somehow persuaded him into doing this. He was wearing ridiculous clothes coming from Rom’s wardrobe, wearing vibrant colors and his hair disheveled. It was certainly different than his usual attire which consisted of black and gold piece for when he was off-duty, and the traditional uniform he wore when he was with Dom, which was ninety per cent of the time. He couldn’t deny that Rom had done a great job, however, because as Claud navigated through the carnival, no one recognized him. It was a relief, not to be stopped by anyone so they could interrogate him about his time at the Choke. The prince had told him he would be at the face-painting booths, and when Claud arrived to that area, he spent good five minutes trying to spot his friend. Finally, he saw him sitting at one of the booths, his face turned to him, a mask painted on the area around his eyes and extending outwards to his temples.
Claudius approached the booth quickly, feeling a little self-conscious about the clothes he was wearing. “I still think this is a bad idea.” he spoke once he was a few feet away from the booth. “You look great, though. That actually really covers up your royal face nicely,” Claud grinned, turning his attention to the woman who had painted Dom’s face. “Can I get something like th–” his words were cut off suddenly, green eyes staring into brown ones. Not just any brown eyes. Hers. Despite the fact that her face was painted, he would recognize those eyes anywhere. He stumbled back, as if he had been shot in the chest, feeling like the breath had been knocked out of his chest. Seconds, minutes, perhaps even hours passed with Claudius simply staring at her, a mix of emotions on his face: shock, happiness, pain, sadness. He could hear his heart pulsing in his ears, breathing as if he had been running for miles, his fingers shaking involuntarily.
“How–how–” Claudius stuttered, finally taking his eyes off of her to glance at Dom. Did he know? Had he planned this? No, it couldn’t be, he looked absolutely clueless. “Rachel,” Claud whispered her name, scared to say it out loud from fear that none of this was true. Perhaps he was hallucinating from eating something spoiled at the carnival. He took a step forward, staring at her as if she could disappear any moment.
“It’s you.” he shook his head slowly, still breathing heavily. “You are alive. How is this possible?”
& ; @flamesofnorta
He had to chuckle at that, but he made every effort to keep still. “A little bit,” he admitted, peeking an eye open when she pulled the brush away and swapped it for some other tool. He closed it before she turned back around. He sat, the patient customer as she finished her work. She was a perfectionist, that much he could tell by the time she was taking with her work. It was admirable, surely. Finding someone dedicated to their craft for more than just the coin it brought the was an odd sort of occurrence, especially among the Reds. “You could say that,” he managed, a mischievous GRIN on his lips as she finished up and he heard Claud’s voice ring beside him.
He opened his eyes eagerly to examine what hell Rom had wrought upon him, and he didn’t find himself disappointed. “I don’t believe you need a disguise with THAT outfit,” he replied cheekily, busying himself with digging into his pockets to fish out a tip for the artist. Dom failed to notice his friends words cut off, just as he’d failed to hear that Claud’s WORLD was crashing down around him, and similarly to how he’d failed to recognize the bright girl with whom he’d spent months in the Choke with.
“THERE it is,” he grinned, finally latching onto the tetrarch he was searching for. He looked up, finally, holding the coin out in front of him, clearly pleased and still very oblivious. He paused, looking back and forth between the two frozen statues in front of him. His eyebrows laced together in confusion.

“ OH, S H I T !! ”
Dom jumped up from the chair, knocking it backwards in his excitement. “DUDE,” he all but cawed, abandoning formalities and clearly not bothering to take note of the tension and heartbreak that was thick in the air. He was all but jumping around, unable to contain his excitement.
“IT’S HER.” & @sunflcwergirl
Rachel felt him rather than saw him, a familiar presence, familiar warmth, and she knew he was there before even looking up. For a moment, she didn’t want to look up, and though this was a moment she’d been dreading, she felt her heart flutter at the mere sound of his voice—she cursed herself for that. She willed herself not to look at him, to keep her eyes downcast, hating herself for the fondness that filled her at just being near him and not wanting to let that feeling go. All it took was their eyes to meet for her heart to break all over again.
For possibly the first time in her life, Rachel found herself SPEECHLESS. Lips parted as if to speak, but she could not form the words, could not even think them. Her heart beat out a staccato rhythm that seemed to taunt her with all the words she couldn’t bring herself to say, not here, not now. She was like a deer trapped in the cold wash of headlights, copper eyes staring into green and unable to look away; there was a brief moment in which she could have sworn she were falling, stomach flipping, heart in her throat, but the illusion was shattered—as was the hold Claud’s shocked stare seemed to have over her—at Dom’s exclamation.
Startled, she jerked and tore her gaze away, snapping her mouth shut as she avoided looking at either of them, face BURNING. Shut up, shut up, SHUT UP, she wished in that moment to be anywhere but HERE. This wasn’t how she pictured today going.
Kieran: Looks aren't everything.
Gerard: Looks ARE everything! Ever heard Rom speak? It's like he mouth-sexed a can of helium. You think Dom got this far on a superior acting method?
Kieran: Love is blind, Gerard.
Gerard: No. You're blind.
Prosperina: You're not listening.
Alessa: And you're wearing a low-cut dress to draw attention to your boobs.
Prosperina:
Alessa: Oh, I'm sorry. I thought we were having a state-the-obvious contest, and I'm competitive by nature.
Sabina: Come on, Gerard. It's time to forgive Octavian and bury the hatchet.
Gerard: Seems like a waste of a good hatchet.
Rachel: What are you guys having?
Noah: Beer
Flynn: Whiskey
Celeste: What am I, twelve? Give me some scotch.
Rachel: What about you hot stuff?
Damon: Water.
Rachel: That's a good idea, honey.
Dom: Okay... I lied a few times. And I know I've made some mistakes in the past.
Rom: Thousands.
Dom: And some times, I've led you into danger.
Claud: Always.
Dom: But, at least I had the best intentions in mind.
Griffin: Yours.
Dom: And thing have always turned out to be okay.
Everybody else in the world: NEVER!!

❛ DOM.
A brow was raised when she deposited what looked like a can of black spray onto the table, but he didn’t question it. She looked confident, arranging her paints and cleaning her brushes with lithe and EXPERT fingers. Besides, if nothing else, his position of power granted him a usual promise of excellency. No one, especially a RED, would defile the prince and future King of Norta. “Excellent,” he replied, a grin tugging at his lips.
The quick flash of.. something.. that crossed her features when he mentioned the arrival of his fellow guardsman was obvious, even underneath the paint she wore. Domitius had always been good at reading people, and it was a gift that he’d crafted and sharpened over the years. But this… he couldn’t seem to place what she was feeling. No matter. It wasn’t his concern. There was a GREAT NIGHT waiting ahead for him, so he closed his eyes as she commanded. “I can trust you, right?”
Amusement brought a smile to her face once more, but Rachel was careful to keep a firm grasp on caution, not eager to MISSTEP. Lifting the loaded brush to the Prince’s face, she started with his temples and worked inward around his eyes, creating a sort of mask, classic in its simplicity. She was careful to leave a generous gap around his eyes to avoid irritation, planning to fill them in with a less irritating cosmetic. ″ Absolutely. ″ Sincerity saturated her reply, but amusement reared with her following words. ″ What, afraid I might paint something awful ? ″ Once the initial painting was finished, Rachel grabbed the canister of hair spray, careful to shield his face from the spray as she thoroughly coated his hair, transforming his locks pitch black. She gave a short absent-minded hum as she leaned back, searching for any neglected areas before finding herself satisfied with the results. Exchanging the canister for a small tin of a black cream-like makeup, she began to apply it around his eyes, darkening them so, when closed, they disappeared, melding with the faux-mask.
″ So, BIG NIGHT, huh? Must be exciting. ″ There was no need to fake a casual curiosity ( after all, there was no DENYING she was indeed curious ) and conversation was a good excuse to fill silence.
( MATTHEW. )
( NOAH. )
“ ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THIS? ” –– because he’s sure as shit not.
He hovered closely next to Rachel ( hands at the ready to catch her if she stumbled ) with Matt on her other side, as they had done since she’d arrived in Naercey; unwilling to let her out of his sight for more than five minutes time. He still wasn’t sure that she wouldn’t just up and disappear, that she wasn’t some mirage he’d dreamed up from sheer force of will.
He, for one, had opted for them all to stay back in Naercey, attempting to bribe them both with how quiet the ruined city would be and promise of endless ice cream from the kitchen. He wasn’t convinced that Rachel had only wanted to go because she knew Matthew would, and above that, knew that Noah wouldn’t let him out of his sight just as much as he wouldn’t let her. If he wasn’t so goddamn nervous the idea of them banning together like they used to would have brought a nostalgic smile to his lips.
as it was, he was goddamn FUCKING nervous.
“ We should go back, guys. Really. I don’t got a good feeling about this. ”
&. ‘ @sunflcwergirl / @theplainoliver
Excitement. It bubbled just beneath the surface, evident in the way that Matthew bounced as he walked, the way his hands swung so eagerly at his sides as if yearning to touch everything in sight. Getting away from Naercey was the most exciting thing that he’d had in so damn long and like hell he was about to let Noah rain on his parade. If anything, Matthew was going to bring a little sunshine to Noah’s and with Rachel’s help?
Noah didn’t stand a chance.
He felt like a kid again, still awkward and lanky, marching alongside Noah and Rachel. It was in those moment that Matthew felt invincible, that he dared anyone to try and mess with him. At least now that he was much older he would go scurrying behind Noah is someone did try to mess with him. This was a carnival though and that meant smiles, happiness, and all the food he could stuff his face with. How could Noah feel like this would be such a bad idea?
“That might just be gas talking. You don’t get a good feeling about anything. Smile and have fun! Can’t you let loose just once Noah?” Matthew looked to Rachel, pouting. “Make him stop being such a downer.”
″ What, YOU ? Noah Oliver ? Having a BAD feeling about something ? Mattie, quick, alert the media !! ″ CHEEKY was the grin that played upon Rachel’s features, a countenance filled to the brim with mirth. She was near giddy with happiness, bubbly with excitement; not just at the new and thrilling atmosphere, but at the company as well. Here, with her Oliver boys – it felt like HOME. There was no better feeling in the world.
There was a certain swing in her step despite the crutches, a certain lightness to her being even SHE felt to be foreign. Nothing could bring her down. She knew Noah’s concerns and she wouldn’t dismiss them, but she also knew him TOO well—if he could find a way to put the weight of this on his shoulders, he would. She would just have to make it her personal mission to stop him.
″ C’mon, Noah. What’ll it take to cheer you up ? Want me to win you a PRIZE ? Pretty sure I saw a fuzzy teddy bear with your NAME on it. ″
Why do you weep? Did you think I was immortal?
Louis XIV (last words)
( OCTAVIAN. )
open to all reds!
The ding of the bell had ensnared him, caught him hovering curiously on the edge of the strength test, his brow furrowed and serious as he regarded the flow of Nortans chancing their luck with the game. This was a dream of strength. A child’s wistful imagining. It gave Octavian pause—watching other silvers find their powers useless in the face of it, watching reds laugh and jibe and bet with each other. It was a challenge to them. Something to strive for. He was so hungry, suddenly, to struggle with the exact opposite of his true fight—to seek to hit things harder, to clutch lovers more strongly, to be desperate to prove strength instead of to control it, to limit it, to pull it back to avoid damage.
Irritable with himself, longing for the uncomplicated company of his family or a friend from Delphie or even a long lost lover, Octavian turned away from the game he’d never embarrass others by destroying—and nearly collided with somebody coming towards it or one of the people around it.
“I’m sorry,” he said immediately, his hands going out to steady them, his tone and demeanour instantly more open and apologetic than it might have been if he’d recognised a fellow silver. He’d caught the red undertone to their skin without effort, the dawn-rose blush it brought to their face. With silvers, he felt like he had to be careful—at least here in Archeon. But reds were reds, no undercurrent of power bleeding into every move, and suddenly he was eager to spend more time around this kind of person. Uncomplicated. No politics. Red.
“Are you headed to test your strength?”
Rachel wasn’t quite sure how she ended up in this particular part of the carnival. One moment she was maneuvering easily through the sea of people, despite the obvious hindrance, and the next she was swept up by the current, stumbling aimlessly in an effort to stay afloat. She’d managed to slip away from the fast-paced throng to a more stable area, though not completely without its own crowd. She was just beginning to regain her bearings when she nearly crashed straight into another person—she seemed to be doing that a LOT lately.
An apology slipped forth as she regained her balance, a hand instinctively steadying herself on an outstretched arm. It took her a moment to register that her near-collision victim was a SILVER—even now, even HERE, that was rarely the first thought in her mind, though she knew it was a habit she should ( must ) learn. Though once she spied the silver tint to his skin, she couldn’t help but reconsider her LUCK ( just HOW MANY Silvers was she going to run head first into today ? If she was to embarrass herself this badly, at least she could try and do it in front of her own PEOPLE. )
What struck her as peculiar was his own instantaneous apology. It was not so often a SILVER apologized to a RED – and, what seemed to Rachel, quite a SINCERE apology at that. It was then that her curiosity chose to rear its head, and she gave the man a smile before replying.
″ Looking for the snacks, actually. Think I took a wrong turn. ″
( GREY. )
He’d met Rachel the morning after the incident, when he’d willingly ( and far too excitedly ) plopped down next to her on the makeshift hospital bed and elaborated on what he’d already been through with the guard, in such a short span of time. Grey had always been a story-teller, and Rachel seemed the type fond of living vicariously, so with embellishments added in the proper spots he’d had her HOOKED in no time. They became easy friends after the fact, and he’d found himself spending a good chunk of his day next to her, traveling into his past life. Some would deem it unhealthy, but Grey thought it to be therapeutic. To relive the better days, the one’s where Lake was happy and Flynn was found outside of the bottle and Gabe was a l i v e. He approached the girl nonetheless, an easy grin on his lips. “ I didn’t think you’d come, ” he stated, referring to her less than agile state. “ Robin didn’t put up a fight? ”
「 ✕ ; @sunflcwergirl
A mirrored grin to match his own slid upon amaranth lips, painted petals and vines curling around her eyes giving dance as their corners crinkled with gaiety. Rachel had become fast friends with the WHISTLE, getting reeled in by his grand tales like a fish on a HOOK, and she found she enjoyed his company, even looking forward to their little visits. With a boundless imagination such as hers, she drank in his stories greedily so as to paint just a little bit more of the world in her mind.
″ There may have been some fighting—a protest, if you will. But can’t really argue when BOSS LADY gives the go-ahead, right? ″ In her free hand was a bag of fresh kettle corn and she absentmindedly popped a piece into her mouth before angling the bag towards her companion. ″ What about you? What’re you up to? Not getting into TOO much trouble, I hope. ″ Her grin was accentuated by a certain CHEEKINESS, mirth twinkling in her eyes.
Rom: dick pic? ;)
