Hiya! Here's your Daily Reminder to Click for Palestine! ποΈ
Click for the other causes as well if you can!
Iβve ranted about this before, but if I hear one more person tell me as a disabled, chronically ill person that I βneed reset my vagus nerveβ and they suggest a magnesium bath soak and what is essentially chamomile tea mixed with a laxative to fix it, I refuse to be held responsible for my actions.
βYour vagus nerve has stopped working,β worstie, thatβs called death.
Oh hey, this reminds me of the time I wrote thisssss:
Stop Recommending Therapy Like Itβs a Magic Bean Thatβll Grow Me a Beanstalk to Neurotypicaltown
Save yourself
hey if itβs your first time being food insecure because of snap benefit cuts, hi! this ainβt my first rodeo and iβve got tips.
1. dried beans and rice are infinitely cheaper than the canned/microwave stuff. just wash, soak (in the case of beans!), cook, and youβre done!
2. on that note, beans and rice, when eaten together, make a complete protein that is easily digestible by your body. if it comes down to it, you can live off that alone for a good long while.
3. when shopping, prioritize ingredients over premade meals. a frozen pizza is just one pizza, but flour, tomato sauce, and cheese can make many pizzas.
4. dry pantry goods will get infested if youβre not careful. adding a dried bay leaf to dried beans, rice, flour, etc. works wonders for keeping out weevils and other nasty stuff. adding a few drops of peppermint oil to a spray bottle filled with water will keep mice away if you spray it on your baseboards, too.
5. canned veggies is veggies. canned fruit is fruit. you ainβt too good for it, so get those micronutrients if you can.
6. potatoes are super nutritionally dense and a good source of fiber. use them to stretch meals. just donβt store them next to onions because theyβll sprout way faster.
7. coupon clip like a crazy person, and get ready to use the math skills you swore to leave behind in high school. saving pennies starts with getting the most for your dollar. if all cabbages are $1.00, get the biggest cabbage you can find. if tomato sauce is cheaper by the ounce in a quart jar compared to a pint jar, get the quart if you can. be smart with how you spend.
8. lentils are a great way to stretch any kind of ground meat. theyβre really cheap and if youβre like me and canβt cut meat out of your diet completely for health reasons, they help it last a lot longer.
9. portion control is so key. if a meal is meant to make four servings, make it last four servings. itβs better to be a little hungry four days in a row than stuffed for two and starving for two. weigh it out if you have to.
10. never say no to free food. whether itβs potlucks, community events, religious gatherings, or student food pantries, a free meal is one less you have to cook for yourself. pro tip: hit up wednesday night suppers at churches, shabbat dinners at synagogues, and sikh gurdwaras pretty much any time for a free (if not really cheap) meal. you might have to endure some proselytizing, but as long as youβre respectful and mind your business, youβre golden.
Hope you donβt mind me adding some extra tips of my own op!
11. Bullion cubes tend to be real cheap and making things into a soup is a great way to make small portions feel bigger. A serving of beans and rice doesnβt feel like much but when you add a bullion cube and some hot water now suddenly thatβs soup and youβve got a big bowl full + extra flavor
12. If youβre diabetic or insulin resistant and suddenly faced with eating lots of carbs because theyβre whatβs cheap and available pre cook your food then chill it!! Starches in most everything from potatoes to rice to bread will change form when cooked and then cooled. They start converting to resistant starch and our body basically processes them like fiber instead of like carbs, so you can lower the glycemic index of your rice by quite a bit if you cook it then freeze it overnight before thawing and eating. Is it perfect? No but it helps!
13. Frozen fruit and vegetables can also be a great and less expensive way to get your fruit and veg. Canned is often cheaper but do the price-per-ounce math and check! Grocery stores near me still occasionally do 10 for 10 sales on bags of frozen veg! And if you can get some on sales like that they become a great way to bulk out other foods. Mac n cheese? Add some frozen veg. Hamburger helper? Frozen veg. Top ramen? Frozen veg.
14. Reiterating the never turn down free food if itβs something you can eat. Hit up food pantries, check if Facebook has a buy nothing group for your area, people will give away food for absolutely free! Groups like this are also super useful even if you donβt find food, look for things like toiletries on offer, if you can get your body wash for free thatβs a couple bucks you can devote to food.
If you've got a contact who's active military, see if they'll shop for you at the PX/BX. Sure, the food's exceptionally generic, but it's cheap.
Dollar Tree, Dollar General, and similar stores are excellent sources of seasonings, herbs, spices, simple canned vegetables and fruits, some frozen foods, and occasionally meats and dairy (at a few of the larger stores).
Also if you live in rural farming areas, see if they'll allow you to glean in the fields after the harvest (especially right now with it being sweet potato season). Often there are still a decent amount of good vegetables left behind on account of smaller size and "imperfections".

The first photo is from 1956. It shows a Black woman watching members of the Ku Klux Klan (a terrorist, racist, far-right organization focused on white supremacy) walking along a sidewalk in Montgomery, Alabama (USA). I couldn't find the photo's author, but most sources state that it was taken in 1956.
The second photo shows members of the Patriot Front group (a white supremacist and nationalist group, formed in 2017, that openly advocates what they call "American Fascism") traveling on the subway during the 250th anniversary of the U.S. independence in Washington D.C., while a Black woman watches them. The photo is by photographer Cheney Orr, taken on July 4, 2026, 70 years after the first photo.

Because I feel like kids of color donβt hear it enough: domestic abuse is not a part of your culture.Β
A lot of us were raised with the idea thatΒ βits normal for wives/children to get hit! it helps them learnβ only white folk donβt get beaten when they misbehaveβ.Β Thatβs not true, white people arenβt the only ones who deserve a safe and abuse free environment. Black and brown people can and do have loving families.Β
If youβre in a situation where you are enduring abuse and people use your culture to justify it, I want you to know that what theyβre telling you are lies.
as someone who studies this: statistically speaking, child abuse (including βspankingβ, because all forms of hitting children are abusive) is pretty much equally prevalent in households of all racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. so yeah, donβt let people use the βcultureβ excuse on you, but also, donβt believe others are experiencing it less just because itβs less normalized in their culture to talk about it. we all gotta work together to fix this shit.
βTeachers are often unaware of the gender distribution of talk in their classrooms. They usually consider that they give equal amounts of attention to girls and boys, and it is only when they make a tape recording that they realize that boys are dominating the interactions. Dale Spender, an Australian feminist who has been a strong advocate of female rights in this area, noted that teachers who tried to restore the balance by deliberately βfavouringβ the girls were astounded to find that despite their efforts they continued to devote more time to the boys in their classrooms. Another study reported that a male science teacher who managed to create an atmosphere in which girls and boys contributed more equally to discussion felt that he was devoting 90 per cent of his attention to the girls. And so did his male pupils. They complained vociferously that the girls were getting too much talking time. In other public contexts, too, such as seminars and debates, when women and men are deliberately given an equal amount of the highly valued talking time, there is often a perception that they are getting more than their fair share. Dale Spender explains this as follows: βThe talkativeness of women has been gauged in comparison not with men but with silence. Women have not been judged on the grounds of whether they talk more than men, but of whether they talk more than silent women.β In other words, if women talk at all, this may be perceived as βtoo muchβ by men who expect them to provide a silent, decorative background in many social contexts.β

I would actually go as far as to say that MOST abuse is unintentional. I think most people will go through their lives without ever experiencing intentional abuse. People are abusive because they're selfish, because they're stressed, because they care more about what society thinks they should do than the impacts of their actions on their children and partners, because they think what they're doing is correct, because they've made it make sense in their own heads, because they think they can fix their victims, they think they can fix their relationships, they think they can stop you from leaving, they think they can make you a better partner to them, they think that means you need to do what they want. We've sort of constructed mental illness in a way that doing this shit to other people counts as a form of mental illness because it is anti social behavior in the literal senseβ it is behavior that causes social harm.
I don't say any of this to excuse it. I think everyone needs to be more aware of this because if you think abuse has to be intentional you will never realize you are capable of abusive behavior. You will never realize you are being shitty to the people you love, because YOU know what you mean, YOU know you don't mean any harm. But you're doing harm. You need to pay attention to the impact you have on other people, and you need to do it all the time, Especially when you feel least capable of doing so. Sorry! You live in a society. Get your head out of your ass.
confluence on my dash right now of βhow the fuck do you lose a giraffeβ and βthe reason people disappear in the appalachians is the crevices in the mountainsβ. You lose a giraffe or a human by Outside Is Big
the answer as always is that it's big outside yeah
"The trannies should be able to piss in whatever toilet they want and change their bodies however they want. Why is it my business if some chick has a dick or a guy has a pie? I'm not a trannie or a fag so I don't care, just give 'em the medicine they need."
"This is an LGBT safe space. Of COURSE I fully support individuals who identify as transgender and their right to self-determination! I just think that transitioning is a very serious choice and should be heavily regulated. And there could be a lot of harm in exposing cis children to such topics, so we should be really careful about when it is appropriate to mention trans issues or have too much trans visibility."
One of the above statements is Problematic and the other is slightly annoying. If we disagree on which is which then working together for a better future is going to get really fucking difficult.
Someone who says they don't care if dudes wear dresses and makeup is a better ally than someone who says they're a safe space for women and non-binary people. I am not joking.
yeah I went to a gay bar recently with my husband tumblr user beemovieerotica, and a VERY confused capital S Southerner straight man in cargo shorts and a trucker hat showed up
apparently he (who through my drunken memory I remember only as Earl) liked some woman, and she told him that he wasn't cultured enough and needed to attend his first drag show (she also flaked on him)
Now I'm reasonably androgynous and was wearing makeup, a short leather skirt, and black heeled boots, but still when this guy came up to me when I was standing off alone and asked "So. Do you come here often?" with a very earnest expression, I thought. Surely not. This guy doesn't think I'm a straight woman does he????
Anyway I start talking with this guy and he has no idea what the fuck is going on but he is just a very kind and earnest dude and asked a lot of questions (while asking if it was alright if he asked those questions). I track down my husband and friends and I'm like y'all. We need to make sure that Earl has a Good Fucking Time tonight.
Man was completely out of his depth. At one point they put on a puppy auction to raise money for Pride, that started with a 6 ft drag queen in all her glory leading a leather pup out on a leash to the tune of that damned RSPCA "in the arms of the angels" song
We look at Earl. Nervous. He squints, laughs, and then goes "I was wondering why people were dressed like that!" He turned to me and asked "So they're like dogs?" And I said yeah pretty much. And he just chuckled and went "Yeah I thought so with the tails! Never seen this before!"
When the first drag king came out, Earl looked at me wide eyed and went "There's a dude version too?!" And I said yeah they're called drag kings. And he said, low, "Drag kings."
During one of the queens performances, he frowned, shook his head and told me, "Your legs are better than hers." in a tone that implied he thought there was some travesty taking place and I should also be getting paid
When he found out I was there with my husband (and that I am not a woman) he profusely apologized and said "I'm so sorry, it's dark in here and I thought you were a hot chick! I wouldn't have said nothing if I knew you had a husband, I'm so sorry about that."
When beemovie invited me to the dance floor with him later and I still had a drink in my hand, Earl said "Oh don't worry about that I can hold your drink, you get on out there and shake your ass with your husband!" Then before we left, Earl bought me drinks for "Putting up with me all night and answering everything. Y'all helped me have a great time tonight."
like. You gotta recognize there's going to people who have never had interacted outside of their of their own community. This includes you. And just because your community is familiar with all the right vocabulary and how to correctly say something, it doesn't mean they're actually going to support you. If someone like Earl shows up, confused and out of their depth but kind and curious and earnest, you gotta have patience and truck through the small things, so when he goes back to his friends and his coworkers and they snicker asking how the drag show was, he can genuinely talk about how included we tried to make him feel and that he had a great time
The person matters more than the language
I will fuckin never not reblog this.
I think I've reblogged this before, but it bears repeating.
I think some of the worst damage to leftist causes is done by that specific set of people who claim that they care about marginalised groups and the prejudice they face, but whose principle activism consists of using progressive language to pick fights with people from up on their home-made moral high-horse.
