headcanons mashed with canon and bending of canon etcetera

havent managed to depict these:

gems dont keep their shape their entire life and they may Grow unwanted growths that need to be chipped off

artificial gems can be grown (moon) but its pretty obvious as they tend to be variants of quartz, translucent or with unnatural colors. and they feel weird to natural gems to the touch. somehow even more Robotic

in phos' case the alloy gives them more human characteristics (golden teeth, tears, sweat)

theyre mute and communicate via sign language or cave-like moaning (hence their big expansive school. so the sound carries over easily)
