My study tips:

I know no one asked for this but my classes are getting to be quite stressful so I always have to remind myself how to get through them and I figured I could help others in the process. I’m only listing my top three college survival/study tips but there are plenty of other tips. I’d love to hear others so that I could learn even more. Post your helpful tips as well! And thank you!

Get some sleep! This is pretty self-explanatory but usually the hardest to follow. Unless you’re trying to finish up a paper that’s due at 8 am then sleep. Studying until the wee hours of the morning will do you no good. You will rarely remember anything you “studied” however your brain will be much better off if you sleep and study in the morning right before the test. However, you should be studying a little bit everyday before the test so you don’t have to cram at the end.

Write down assignments and due dates. I have a planner but you can use a notebook or sticky notes or whatever you have but write down your assignments. Being a student is stressful and busy and it is easy to forget something. Also, when I write down the due date, I like to trick myself in to thinking it’s due earlier. If it’s due Friday I write down in my planner that it is due Wednesday or even Monday. Again being a student is stressful so I usually forget the actual due date and go by what’s written in my planner and then I’ve worked a head and can focus on other things.

Take breaks. Now, I don’t mean that you “worked” for 10 minutes and 7 of those minutes were spent on tumblr or getting yourself a snack (although I am guilty of that as well). I mean if you’ve actually worked for half hour to an hour and you’re starting to feel burned out then take a break. This is where you have to know yourself because if you want to watch a video on YouTube for your break but you’re notorious for going down a YouTube rabbit hole then don’t watch a video for your break! Personally, I know I can’t watch YouTube or Netflix for my break cause I’ll never start again, but what I will do is play with my cats for 10-15 minutes. They usually need a play break and it helps them not bother me as much when I’m studying. I have friends with dogs that will go take their dogs for walks or just go on a short walk by yourself. I will sometimes do a small chore on my break such as washing the dishes, folding some laundry, or cleaning out the litter box. These chores are quick and enjoyable enough to have a nice break and there’s a stopping point where there isn’t always one while watching videos. The dishes will run out and there will be a point where the litter box is clean or the kitties will get tired so when that happens I know it is time to get back to work.

So the only all-bird rehab center in North Texas is about to shut down

I can’t even put into words how upset I am about this. Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation has been open for almost twenty years, and is the only place in North Texas that takes in literally any type of bird if it’s been injured, orphaned, or otherwise incapacitated. They’re finally out of funds, and if they can’t come up with anything by April 2nd, they’re going to be forced to close their doors.

They’ve never turned away birds. Not when it’s a surprise 200 baby cattle egrets that’ve been orphaned because city planners thought they could cut down their homes and no one would notice. Not when it’s raptors with one good eye and in need of seven different antibiotics. Not even when it’s ducks that irresponsible parents won’t let their kids keep after easter. This is where anyone let me first get up close to birds. I mean, I’ve known I wanted to work with birds and wildlife since I was seven- I’m twenty four now, and halfway through an environmental science master’s and it’s a big reason I kept going.

I’ve been going to this place on and off for ten years, I was THIRTEEN when I started volunteering and seeing all the terrible things that happen to the birds that come in. Not just…hit by trucks, or caught in a hailstorm but parrots that have been left in foreclosed houses for weeks, and roosters that have come out of cock fighting rings and would otherwise be put down because the SPCA and humane societies don’t think they’re salvageable. There’s an emu that was raised there as a baby because no one wanted her. Her name’s Riley and I can’t even begin to comprehend what shutting the doors to the center would mean?

They don’t get government aid. They’ve been funded by the public donating and Kathy, the lady who owns the place, going through her retirement funds and savings and her social security to keep it running. She’s finally run out of money. Please, just reblog? Even if you can’t donate anything- and I know it’s a lot to ask for poor teenage/college kids to donate money that they don’t have, or struggling artists I know but maybe someone who can spare something will see it eventually? They need $200,000 to keep open for a year to continue to help 4000 birds a year.
