I actually do not give an actual fuck about (most of) the perceived inaccuracies and adaptive flourishes of Nolan's Odyssey and I think that some of you need to understand that stories can be good even if they are changed to fit a different thematic structure. I simply do not care about perceived mischaracterizations of one of history's oldest blorbos: Idgaf that it didn't include the Nobody detail when Odysseus' connection to the gods is tenuous and his sponsor god/the personification of his guilt wears the face of an innocent murdered as a result of his violations. His defining character traits are established much differently, and in my opinion, serve the medium far better. I think that some of you need to stop the rehash and enjoy a piece of art that claims inspiration, not accuracy.

also the whinging about these kinds of adaptive details is kind of like christians getting upset about jesus christ superstar.

Looking for reviews I agree with us so funny because either people thought it was the Best Movie Ever Made or they’re disparaging the few things I liked about it or completely misreading the themes (which seems willful given how much the dialog hits you over the head with them). Hint the “sea people” everyone is afraid of invading is Odysseus (and probably Agamemnon) returning from Troy and pillaging their way back like that’s pretty explicit. The invading force they’re afraid of is themselves. It’s not some xenophobic fear of the other (though sure if you’re not paying attention you could take it that way I guess). The point is they destroyed their own “civilization” that’s what war does.

the odyssey will never be adapted perfectly! it's too long, it's too dense, it's too long in scope, it's too contradictory. so much happens but also in another way almost nothing happens. the world it portrays is so foreign to us it's difficult to adapt the values and context needed to understand. you're never going to get it all onto a screen it just doesn't fit. and once you accept that it only deepens your appreciation of the original text and allows you to accept each adaptation for its own purposes and limitations

So after extensive interrogation I have an update:

my mom is in fact aware that dandelions exist. she temporarily forgot the name and there was some miscommunication.

the truth is actually weirder

she’s aware dandelions look like this

she is familiar with this flower. she knows the name of this flower. she declines to believe, however, that these are also dandelions

she does not believe these are the same plant. I tried to explain, and she thought I was either misinformed or lying. so I asked her what exactly did she think the yellow ones were called?

she answered, with complete confidence: Daffodils.

“buttercups” is a name applied to MANY flowers. in my part of the south it was this one:

imo there’s correct identifications of dandelions, daffodils, easter lilies and marigolds in this thread, but buttercups are simply impossible to agree on and the only solution is for everyone to post pictures of their local buttercups

so i hauve covid rn and i must say, American cold medicine is the absolute bees knees. You go to a UK pharmacy and they tenderly press like eight (8) paracetamol into the palm of your hand...
