One of the greatest joys of my life was receiving a treasure trove of producer William Dozier’s memos and letters. The amount of intention, the delicate balancing act required for this kind of humour, he was so aware of it and the writers worked so hard to get it just right. The fact that they did it while also working at an absurd pace — the show debuted early, as a mid-season replacement, and was such a hit that they had to deliver season two for the September date that they were planning to deliver season one, AND they made a feature film between seasons, AND they ran twice a week in season two, a sixty episode season — is astonishing to me. They did so much so well in such a short period of time.

Lobby hard for your choice in the primaries, but do not insult the other options.

I like Warren a lot more than Sanders. I like Klobuchar and Harris better than either of them. Right now, Gillibrand is my top choice.

BUT I WANT TO BE ABLE TO VOTE FOR THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE IN NOVEMBER, whoever that turns out to be.

And since I want to be able to get behind them, I want to know what their good points are. I want to know what I can expect them to do, and - this important - what issues aren’t on their top priority list, so I can let them know what matters to me.

All of them are smart, decent people. All of them want a better country, a better world. All of them would, on their worst day, be better than Trump at his best, assuming he has something a sane person could call “best.”

No infighting this time. No circular firing squads. Do not insult, denigrate, discourage, or bully people who are supporting the candidates you dislike. WE NEED TO WORK TOGETHER FOR THIS.

Before the primaries, figure out who is the best representative for your interests, and promote the hell out of them. Encourage people to vote. Get people registered. Tell everyone why you like this one better than that one - based on policies and history, not “he’s a lying scumbag” or “she caters to corporate greed.”

None of them is perfect. ALL OF THEM ARE BETTER THAN WHAT WE HAVE - do not help the Republicans (and the Russians!) suppress progressive voters by badmouthing other people’s choices.

I don’t want Sanders. I think he’s too old (and so is Warren) and we need people whose understanding of business and social dynamics are based on recent trends. I think Sanders is too caught up in social class as the only real axis of oppression; I don’t think he understands intersectionality. I worry that he favors gun rights more than is safe.

I’m not voting for him in the primaries. But if he gets the nomination, HE HAS MY VOTE IN NOVEMBER. And not in a “ugh, holding my nose and voting against Trump” way - he wants medical care for everyone; he wants college to be available to all; he wants strong unions and worker support. I can get behind those policy plans.

No litmus tests this time. No single issue that convinces people to stay home in November 2020. Pick one you like, or pick a few that you’re deciding between - but don’t convince yourself that any of them are evil incarnate and must be stopped at all costs.

Because we have that. And Republicans know damn well that they only win elections by splitting and suppressing votes for Democrats - so they’ll be hyping “this candidate is too terrible to vote for!!! Just stay home!” for the next year and a half.

Listen, if the Democratic candidate winds up being a dead lizard in a broken-down Radio Flyer wagon, I will vote for them, because a dead lizard would be better for this country than the utterly disgusting, morally vacant person that currently holds the office.

And until then? I’m going to assume that people shit-stirring to get people to turn on Dem candidates are actually furthering a Republican agenda, because that’s what it amounts to.

Just something to add as well: There’s a decent chance that the Democratic nominee is going to be called a “centrist.” That term gets applied a lot even though a lot of times it’s not really defined. Both Bill Clinton and Obama were center-left candidates/presidents who were really good at inspiring people. Our next nominee might end up being from the same mold. However a Democratic congress isn’t going to be centrist. The 2018 class ran on a variety of left policies (ie medicare for all, raising taxes on the wealthy, etc). The 2020 class, assuming we add more seats (especially in the senate) are going to be running on those same issues (because they’re popular). A Democratic president is going to sign the bills that a Democratic congress gives them. Our next Democratic president may run on fixing Obamacare rather than Medicare-for-all. But if Congress passes a bill that creates Medicare-For-All, that centrist Democrat will sign that bill and do a happy dance as soon as it’s done. A new expanded Voting Rights Act? A Democratic President will sign that 5 minutes after it passes Congress, because even a Machiavellian centrist is going to recognize it’s good for them. The Green New Deal, a centrist might disagree on the specifics, and push for differing priorities, but they’re going to sign the bills. That’s not to say we don’t want to fight for our issues, and push our candidates to support them. That’s how we push the whole conversation left. I didn’t really like Sanders that much as a candidate, but his presence and the issues he fought for became core components of the Democratic platform. Now many of those “crazy” positions are shared by everyone in the race. We obviously need to focus on Trump. We just can’t also forget that there’s also a huge amount of power in having anyone in the White House, even if we don’t agree with all their positions.

A day or two ago, I was at “boob” restaurant (like an owl one) for a best friend’s brother’s birthday. I got up to go to the bathroom. Talked to a waiter to ask where it was, blah blah blah, normal stuff. And when I was halfway across the restaurant, some guy at a table slapped my ass. And he and all his friends started laughing about it. I spun around and slapped him across the face back.

He got sooo pissed. Started yelling at me and calling me a bitch and then told me “You can’t hit me! I’m a customer!”

I’m pretty well developed for my age, and this happened when it was hot as fuck outside so I was wearing shorts and a tank top.

“I’m not a worker, asshole! And you shouldn’t slap their asses too just because they can’t hit you back!” I’m pretty sure I said something to the effect although I probably am explaining it as if I was smooth and calm back then, but I was an embarrassed, mortified mess

And then I asked one of the waitresses to call the police. The guy was backpedaling and trying to apologize.

Fun fact: I’m 15. Like I said, very well developed for my age.

So I told him no, we were both going to wait here for the police to show up so I could report him for sexually abusing and harassing a minor.

He panicked and was even trying to bargain with me, but like fuck I was letting him off the hook. Think of how many other girls this asshole has probably harassed! I just have the power to do something about it.

Police got there and I had about at least 50 witnesses to attest to the fact a stranger, who was probably like 40, slapped my ass, when I am, in fact, a minor. Not to mention he yelled things at me when he thought I was a worker like “You can’t touch me! I’ll beat your ass, cunt!” Which I referenced as him threatening me too.

The rest of his friends were mortified and had tried to leave but I insisted that they have to stay because the cops might want statements from them. Whether or not that’s true, I don’t fuckin know, but the manager seemed to agree enough to tell them to wait for the police.

I had tried not to, but as some point when talking to one of the waitresses while waiting for the police, I started crying because of how violated I felt. It may have done good for the police came in to see my crying, I don’t know, but the waitresses were all so sweet and tried to comfort me when they had the chance.

I intend to press charges. Since I am a minor I need my parents to help or whatever and I know nothing about this kinda thing but I can potentially get him labeled a sex offender, which he IS, so I want him to actually feel punishment for his abuse towards female workers (I doubt I’m the first girl he’s harassed, maybe just the first who could fight back without her job on the line, so I want to be the last girl he harasses), just… ugh. I just hope he gets the punishment he deserves. So… wish me luck with this whole “legal system” nonsense.
