The difference between a fetish and a kink is that a fetish grows down from the ceiling but a kink grows up from the floor
The Mighty Nein were nominated in absentia to face a psychic abomination on the moon they knew fuck-all about before they were sent to eliminate it, purely on the grounds that they have form with this sort of thing. Like, that was it. They're here for the same surface reason Bell's Hells are: Because they were considered uniquely qualified to deal with the specific threat set before them. They were asked to kill the Weave Mind because they can kill the Weave Mind, and that was reason enough for them to step up, lay their lives on the line, do the job, and (so long as Bell's Hells come through in what is now their Moment) slip back into their lives tomorrow with the world none the wiser.
They understood the task here, players and characters alike. There was no Vax equivalent to raise the personal and emotional stakes for them, so they didn't pretend there was. The moon plot didn't begin with a ground strike that killed any of their families, none of their mothers got sucked into the moon cult and are (possibly) in need of saving, and none of them are struggling with accepting that sometimes the adventure chooses you, fair or not, and all you get to decide is how you rise up to meet it. There was no other reason for them to be here except they were asked, because they're up to the task. They know how much that sucks for them, and yet nobody was taking anybody else aside to say, âYou don't have to do anything you don't want to do, if you want to bail I'll be right behind you;" they didn't need to take a beat where they considered that and rose above it, because this wasn't the making of them as heroes, so they didn't pretend that either. They're on the fucking moon, they're beat all to hell, Beauregard's down 150 gold, at least one of their options for getting safely out of there is off the menu, and they might still get called to go in and finish the job with Ludinus, only they didn't get to rescue a beloved friend who'd been lost to them for thirty years, or avenge the deaths of their loved ones, or become the heroes they were meant to be (while facing the risk of never achieving that) out of the deal. The only thing they're taking personally is that they weren't asked to fight the god-eater. Five days ago they didn't know what a Weave Mind even was when it's at home, but there are five piles of dust at their feet all the same, because the world needed it done, and they could do it, and so they came at a moment's notice and just fucking did it. Of course they did.
In the context of this story, The Mighty Nein are âI know a guyâ on an epic scale. They were here to wreck shit and to entertain us while they did it and they leaned all the way into that and played it for maximum fun. The dicks were flying, the bookies were making bank, and most of the planning they did was about weddings. âDo you want to hear my prayer?â has never sounded more like an existential threat, and neither has âThere are no chairs in here.â The stunning strike has rarely been this stunning, or the ball bearings this ballsy. Wizards have never been sexier. They're going to go home tomorrow (please) and tend the garden, open the shop, relieve the substitute teacher, and pick a colour scheme for the bridal party. I know who they were, I know what it took to get them to this place. I couldn't love them more.

@supergirlsjustfly WAIT THIS IS SO HUGE YOU'RE SO RIGHT. LILIANA'S STILL ALIVE. ABSOLUTELY HUGE FOR ME YOU SAVED MY LIFE TODAY THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! there's still time...
The players know. Laura remembered the harness takes an hour and mentioned it in the Cooldown. Also Matt confirmed the rolls he made Laura make in the last few episodes were deception checks for Liliana to make Ludinus believe she couldn't figure out how to broadcast the Occultus Thalamus and while successful at that, eventually Ludinus realised (he keep increasing the DC) and this is the price to pay.
That's what I meant about it not being a cutscene. Liliana would have been dead off screen if Laura hadn't rolled well. They still have a chance.
can i just say how fucking good she looks in a ponytail iâm literally gonna go feral
CAITLYN VS AMBESSA's Fight Scene
Arcane Season 2 |Act3|
I really am not gonna get over Keyleth/Verin as a ship because like, they are WILDLY compelling for having come out of nowhere:
Verin will at the very least live another six hundred years, and is quite possibly functionally immortal via consecution.
They can commiserate about being thrust into the responsibility of commanding a force against extraplanar existential threats at a young age due to the (temporary) death of a parent in the role before them. This really does feel like a two nickels situation, if I'm being honest.
What are air magic and graviturgy if not different methods of achieving the same effect?
He's even a dramatic, long-haired goth with a complicated relationship with a fate deity and, if we're being honest, mommy AND daddy issues. Look at his Netherdeep art. Don't tell me Vax wouldn't approve.
I cannot bring myself to classify this as a crack ship because it is genuinely, bizarrely compelling in character.
It'd be such a strong diplomatic pairing as well... the Bright Queen did say she wants to establish alliances and connections...
Keyleth could always make sure there was shade or cloud cover by controlling the weather so Verin could enjoy time outdoors in Zephrah as a drow...
And, in 600ish years or so, once he's reborn as a race that isn't sun-sensitive- funny how they did just happen to come into possession of a shiny new beacon that could be kept in Zephrah...
What was I saying? Oh yeah, When he's reborn, he could be taken to another Ashari tribe so that Keyleth doesn't have to watch him grow up and deal with that awkwardness. He trains as a druid before returning with every shared memory and goes on to live an extended life alongside Keyleth, never again leaving her by choice. Maybe he'll take up writing poetry one day...
The thing about Vox Machina is that they are a frat party that woke up one morning after a drunken bender and decided to hunt down the serial killers who murdered their friend's family. One thing happened after another and they ended up taking out some very bad individuals in power at great personal cost, which propelled them to mythic status.
But fundamentally, VM is a college frat party that got impossibly attached to each other in the process of trying to do some good.
The Mighty Nein are a group of confrontational, distrustful pariahs who are vulnerable to outside influences that try to manipulate them into a villain arc. But after they completed trauma dumping and crisis bonding, they closed ranks and ground every single one of their personal demons to smithereens.
In essence, the MN are an exclusive, protective battle blender that only saves the world in order to save each other.
Bells Hells are defined by extreme stress. VM was trying to save the world, and the MN were on a self-actualization journey. Bells Hells have to do both of these things at once.
They're quick to trust, which opens them up for numerous betrayals. They don't have enough power to protect against the losses of friends or family. All they've got going for them is their collective aura of tragic weirdness and their full-on willingness to kill immortals (fucking delilah).
In a way, BH view themselves as monstrous abominations. They gain trust from the unlikeliest people and will try to befriend you if they think you're a fascinating monster like them. They've never agreed on anything ever, but they're open to a lot of impossible things and take it in stride. After all, their own existence is an impossibility. And I think that's fucking special.
ARCANE LEAGUE OF LEGENDS: 2x06 - âThe Message Hidden Within the Patternâ âł "Caitlyn must not be distracted."
I've been seeing people talking about the gold cuffs in Vex's ears, comparing them to Laudna's, and saying that maybe now that we've seen Vex wearing them it's a trend and that's why Laudna wears them. And babes...
I'll take the little gold cuffs, little pointed ear gold cuffs off. I wear these to hide it, because people get all gagged out about it, but they cut my ears to make them pointy, to further match whatever warning signal that I was. - Marisha, episode 17 of campaign 3
From Marisha/Laudna herself. She wears them to hide her docked ears! Couldn't it be, maybe, that Vex was so moved by the existence of Laudna, a girl that looks so much like her and suffered at the hands of Delilah because of her...
âDonât forget to dock her ears. Itâd be such an utter waste if our darling Vex'ahlia fails to recognize herself.â - Delilah, page 21 of What Doesn't Break
... that she felt inspired to add them to her look? Mayhaps? I wouldn't put it past Laura to do something like that, let's be honest.
I mean...
-C3 Episode 26: A Desperate Call
And in case you need extra meta justification, this is what the artist said:
I gave Vex the gold earcuff. You know why~
That clearly doesn't mean "because it became trendy".
Vaxleth 1x09 | 3x11
Oh. oh this has to be a deliberate callback.
Percy has the courage to put his heart on the line and start a relationship (knowing this could be trouble and taking the chance anyways) and Vex doesn't (throwing the bottle of Courage which, per sound effects, shatters)
And Vex's response to that statement from her brother...
And yet Percival is the cleverest man you know? hm?
not what I expected to get out of my s1 rewatch but I'll take it!
Braius being a refugee revoked of status after losing his job and forcibly relocated is such a weirdly grounded sad backstory.
Wanna make it better? (or worse, your call)
He lost the status after his fiancee named "Suzie Greene" broke up the engagement.
He lost his "Greene" card.
This is my favorite shot from the entire episode. The light, the silence, the hesitant steps away from Percy.
A fun fact about EXU Calamity-
Working on these had me stressed and overwrought, mostly because I was worried that I wasnât gonna pull of the Look, and the aesthetic would be shakier because of me.
To deal with that, I made up a character to be the in-universe mosaicist who was designing and crafting these panels of the Ring of Brass. Every time I messed up or my hand slipped and I had to go back a step, I imagined him dropping a tile, muttering a curse, and trying again. His name was Florent, he was a journeyman artist and craftsperson in Avalir, and he was my coworker for about a month.
@agarthanguide
Now that S3E4 of Vox Machina is finally out, I can comment on this: I was the storyboard artist who pitched using a similar aesthetic to your portraits for the flashback scene on the episode. I think it worked out really well and I would like to give you props for doing those awesome portraits in the first place! đ
Also props to the artist who took my boards and turned them into these lovely images for the final look of the episode. I wish I knew who you were đ
