New Apps Tech & Market Leaks

Facebook leaked their new stand alone app version of Snapchat called Slingshot and I'm predicting a major fail among digital socialites!

Congratulations Facebook on what looks like a failed attempt at forcing people to interact. The catch is what you send doesn't ever really go away (as if anything does) and whatever image you send to your friend [s] cannot be viewed by them until they send you something back. Great way to get everyone involved ORGANICALLY! NOT! I think the image below says it best... Good Night!

But then there's the new app by MIT Media Lab called 20 day stranger that has my head tingling with the possibilities. They are only in beta testing and if you have an I Phone you may want to check this out. They are looking for people to test the new app. I think this one will be a lot of fun.

You get to connect to someone anywhere in the world but not by chatting. Instead you get to see snippets of their day to day life in pictures and locations. The developers are tapping into available smart device technology to track where we go, how we get there and what we are doing. But don't worry, they don't give away any private information. In fact you won't even know who you are communicating with until the 20th day. On day 20 you get to send a 400 character message to your new friend and I'm hoping the program will then let you connect if you both agree. 

And finally here's an insider leak on a new app called Morphius. No information has been officially released but from what I hear, the app is going to revolutionize the interactive world. The only thing I found is this preliminary website that gives very little info. I guess their keeping things tightly under wraps.

F A C E B O O K - I S - L I S T E N I N G

How would you feel if you found out Facebook was listening to what you're doing through your phone's mic? They're about to release a new feature built in to do just that. They say it's so you can share what you're watching or listening to and that you can turn it off. But if the technology is on your phone what's to prevent them from turning the mic on at any given moment or worse, record any minute of your life?

Facebook says you will have the ability to control this feature, so everyone's safe! WAIT! What? Can they really do this? Sure it will cause some controversy but soon enough the dust will settle and soon enough, like with most technology, you'll succumb and become comfortable allowing apps it to share your habits like exactly when you are watching Game of Thrones. Soon we just leave the feature on and start to trust it...

Soon the audio and video feature will be activated on demand. Imagine when the camera or mic recognize any auditory input. Maybe this would be good for the government to capture info or family can use it to spy on you.

T R U S T I N G - R O B O T S

We will slowly allow them into our homes and our lives. If we want them to understand us and help make our lives less stressful or fulfilling they're gonna need internet access and access to our gadgets. The more they know the more they can help by selecting things like the right music or temperature when we get home. Knowing our heart rate and calling for medical attention would require advanced access to our personal lives. Would personal access allow them to override secure sites or possibly mimic us? Would access to the worldwide web allow them to learn about hate, fear, slavery?

FUTURE TECH - WWW "ACCESS DENIED"

We all use the internet every day to communicate but how much do we really know about who created it, who owns it or who controls the content or what we are allowed to access.  

“A C C E S S - D E N I E D” Is it possible we could wake up to see these words displayed across our email, social media, even the internet and our phone? What if access was determined by social or financial status? In a "not too distant future" gadgets will be controlled by our smart devices through the internet. Awesome, our lives will be so much easier!  Maybe... Let's say your government asks citizens to volunteer for the microchip implant program but you decided against the implant. Now, what if your ISP denies you access to the internet based on that or for any reason?

WHAT IS NETWORK NEUTRALITY?

Network Neutrality was coined in 2002 by Tim Wu. Network neutrality is the idea that internet service providers (Verizon, Comcast, Time Warner, Sprint) should treat all internet traffic equally. It basically protects you, allowing freedom of travel throughout the worldwide web. ISP's should not be allowed to block or degrade access to certain websites or services, nor should they be allowed to set aside a "fast lane" that offers content favored by the ISP to load more quickly than the rest.

There are now regulations that are being revised that will affect everything from internet speed, total access and even what apps can be downloaded. Congress is currently drafting a bill that would revise and update the 1996 Telecommunications Act.  The current draft does address network neutrality, but the language won’t protect other service providers, app developers or even end users. For example, the bill states that certain classes of Internet providers "may not unreasonably" impair, interfere, restrict or limit applications or services, but offers no definition of what is "unreasonable.”

  The worldwide web should be considered similar to public transit. Meaning, services are offered to everyone at standard prices. Network neutrality essentially applies the concept of common carriage to the Internet. Access should only be denied when it compromises the safety or security of the company or public.

In the name of censorship, some countries already use sophisticated technology to block specific content, apps and websites. Users are also denied the use of certain words in any form including personal emails.

WHAT’S IS “INTERNET OF THINGS?”

Imagine what the world would be like if the internet was blocked or it became controlled by corporations and government. Future technology is advancing so rapidly it is suggested there will be over 20 billion devices connected to the internet in a few years. Everything from  your car’s GPS to your personal health. We will be connected to our homes appliances, offices, cars and many more products. Smart devices will be making decisions in our best interest. It goes way beyond what we can even conceptualize.

 FUTURE ROBOTS WILL BE SMARTER THAN US

We know they're coming, it's been recounted numerous times in every fictional, futuristic movie made, Robots! They are already here in many forms. Slowly we are becoming comfortable with  them. First, they will perform menial labor and soon more advanced jobs. As we get more comfortable, they will be allowed into our homes and into our lives. But think about this for a minute; If we want robots to understand us and help make our lives less stressful, more fulfilling wouldn't they need access to the internet and all devices on the internet. We would want them to know our mood so they could select the right music for instance when we get home. Knowing our heart rate and calling for medical attention would require advanced access to our personal lives. Would this kind of access give them the ability to override secure sites and mimic us? Would access to world information allow them to learn about hate, fear, slavery? What would stop them from becoming more and more intelligent or even relating or understanding our emotions. What would stop them from having or mimicking emotions of their own? Would they feel repressed and finally would they want to be equal? How much is too much?

I just received the first email ever from Google direct. Google has direct access to literally billions of users (Google Play, GMail, YouTube, GoogleTV, etc.

Google has just informed me that they will be releasing a new email platform allowing users to email ANYONE in their circles. Even if you don't know them. The relationship starts with a blind email which will be sent to anyone you have in your circle. It's then up to the receiver to opt in and allow you to reach them. This is a huge game changer and still worlds away from what's to come. The superpowers are being developed. Soon advertisers will be fully integrated in the consumer experience while they play, eat, shop.

Who Controls Technology Controls The World

Smart Phone Technology Will Change The Game

What if fans or gamers could play in the real world and not just in a game? What if smart phone technology allowed users to form groups to converge at a specific location? Could technology like this put the future back in the hands of consumers? Imagine what companies would pay? Advertisers, music artists, entertainment, the list is endless. What if I told you the technology exists today and It’s called R.I.G. Technology?

Everything we've been told, everything we've seen through the minds of writers and directors of the future, exists today or will be closely replicated in the near future. I'm reading a book called "The Utopia Experiment" by Robert Ludlum. It describes in detail, new technology called "Merge" that ties directly into brain and body functions. Imaging is calculated for maximum color, depth, etc. based on our eye's ability and same with sound. No more headphones or glasses.

Imagine instantly registering knowledge of anything or anyone with just a glance. In an instant you could determine what a person believes, property they own, weight, what they ate and even if they are considered "Good" or "Bad." The question is would we allow it? The answer to this, I believe, is in how it's introduced to the world. The technology is being developed out of a need. There's no stopping it.

Manufacturers naturally develop technology based on a need. We're all looking for more. More entertainment, more control, more information, more everything. 

As frightening as this may sound, it might be our only line of defense. With over 6.8 billion cell phones in use today, 15 year old gamers defeating entire armies, social media networks and more, consumers already have the technological upper hand. And it's not hard to imagine military applications for this technology. Software determining your beliefs, your worth, who you voted for, background... Shall I go on?

Google has been developing cutting edge technology for years and has been offering most of their services to consumers at no cost. We freely give companies like Google our life story on a silver platter. That information is also available to other organizations. We've all "Googled" someone. Soon it will be like breathing. 

I expect the introduction of advanced technology to come in the form of the "cool factor." Soon enough everyone who wants to be cool will be tapping into this technology whether it's a new pair of digital glasses, contacts or even implanted under the skin.

R.I.G. technology may be exactly what the doctor ordered. The technology is packaged through entertainment but it puts the control back in the consumers hand. On the entertainment side, clues unlocking massive rewards will entice players or fans. Ultimately the technology could change lives, direct a vote or bring global awareness to a cause.

Action Hero Franchise to Use R.I.G. Technology

  Hollywood, California – Tuesday, September 10th – R.I.G. technology, (Reality Interactive Gaming) was unveiled last week as the partner app to the new action hero franchise, Dark Prophet. The technology allows gamers and fans to engage on all interactive platforms and in the real world. R.I.G. promises to bring the fan back into the real world through engaging content and clues placed outside the digital world. Fans will interact through GPS, Bluetooth, push notification and even snapping coded photos at retail locations.

The franchise, created and directed by Evette Vargas (Batman, Universal, Warner Bros., Maverick Entertainment-Madonna) under Digital Reign, employs the use of R.I.G. technology in ways that allow fans and gamers to interact through game apps, social media, sms and even within the show. Interactive marketing consultant, Jody Sigmund developed the technology to offer ways for advertisers to interact with their audience without the need for traditional advertising. Kevin Spacey (House of Cards) explains the importance of engaging fans through entertainment, giving them what they want, when they want it and without commercials.

Evette Vargas says she’s interested in partnering with media outlets like Netflix as they offer what the viewer wants and delivers on their terms. Traditional advertising is failing because the end user doesn’t want to pause life for an advertisement. The technology will increase exposure for artists and labels through shared music tracks within gaming sequences, downloads and in-game purchases. Fans will be asked to decode music tracks revealing clues. The information can then be shared and downloaded through their phone while they’re watching an episode.

R.I.G. developer, Jody Sigmund says, “Certain features won’t be revealed until we go live. Products, DJs and music tracks will be scripted into all media platforms and are being offered on a limited basis. We want products that fit the storyline.”

The franchise is seeking investor for short term R.O.I. and royalty options. In a recent interview Vargas said the franchise is seeking top app and gaming developers for future interactive components.

Bye, Bye Television - Hello Internet!

Having turned print media upside down, the Internet now is disrupting television, forcing broadcasters to adapt to tablets and video-on-demand to hold onto views and advertisers.

“The gap between what consumers want and the way the industry is delivering it has grown so big that the industry now has to start to make some moves,” Forrester Research analyst Jim Nail told AFP.

Viacom, Time Warner, Disney, 21st Century Fox, CBS — the second quarter results of the big US media groups confirmed that cable networks remain their cash cows.

For the first time this year, however, American adults are spending more time with the Internet than in front of television sets — about five hours a day compared to 4.5, according to a study in eMarketer this month.

The independent market research firm notes that users sometimes use the Internet and watch television at the same time — and that video represents only part of online consumption.

That doesn't stop a groups like Netflix, which offer films and original programming on demand, from growing and spawning imitators such as Amazon’s online streaming service.

The formula is favored by youngsters who relish cartoons on their tablet devices and TV binge-viewers who watch multiple episodes of their favorite shows in one sitting.

Internet giant Google has joined the party with Chromecast, a device that plugs into the HDMI input of a TV set to provide streaming video.

Apple is meanwhile consistently rumored to be developing online television services.

“There will still be some linear real time viewing of TV for the Super Bowl or breaking news events … but entertainment-based video will move to more on-demand,” Nail said.

“If you own a TV station, you are in the same position as a newspaper. There will be other ways to watch content and you’re going to be very challenged,” he explained.

On the other hand, “if you are the content owner, you should not worry at all.”

You might have to abandon cable distribution and get a slot on Netflix, but content is in such high demand “that you will be able to make money… It really shouldn’t change your financial outlook or your survival.” read more

Rhian Touches Herself For A Good Cause

With social media, smart phones and basically a whole new kind of marketing coined "interactive entertainment marketing" the playing field has evolved and so has the media. JWT London nails it to the wall in this very provocative video. Lingerie model Rhian Sugden asks if you would like to see her touch herself. It's pretty ballsy and damn well done. Huntington Beach Police To Use Social Media

Hey they're just kids trying to have a good time... 

At who's expense? And for what cause? As millions around the world protest against corrupt governments and human rights, Southern California's youth take to the streets of Huntington Beach proceeding the Vans US Open of Surf. As there was no reason for this riot other than a possible thrown bottle of ketchup or a show of ego, it only reflects how selfish and mute these kids are to the rest of the world and the real issues facing us today.

As hundreds of "innocent" spectators (who should have walked away or done something) walked the streets armed with their personal video cameras, delinquents gathered and cheered each other on in a public display of violence, destruction and complete disregard for others.

The city was left in shambles with local business owners literally fighting to keep looters from destroying or stealing their property. 

LOVE IT WHEN THE GOOD GUYS DO THE RIGHT THING!

I spent hours researching videos before writing this blog and I couldn't find one episode where the Huntington Beach Police Department used excessive force. To be honest, it was hard to find any video footage worth watching. There was no cause or reason for anything, Just a bunch of spoiled kids destroying property and basically acting like children playing dress up or tea party. These kids should be forced (at their parents expense) to live in a third world country to see what a real protest is all about.

Maybe the police should start using "Go Pro" cameras and turn the social media table on the criminals. I'm sure there will be plenty of video footage to look through and many future arrests will be made.

WE ARE NO LONGER DEFINED BY MEDIA

"We were once defined by our media. Today we define our media!"

Today, we define the media we ingest! We've seized control of what, where and how much media we are willing to swallow. And the advertiser is slowly waking up to this. It's the media who now has to adjust to our personal preferences. We no longer wait for media to tell us what to buy, listen to or believe. But still advertisers and media outlets insists on forcing ads down our throats.

Can you imagine if your friends treated you like advertisers? Here's what your Facebook wall might look like...

You see this everywhere with smart phones and instant video posts to social media.

And now, we, as consumers are capable of designing our own media. Entertainment is fully in our hands. We are all capable of being the musician, the artist or even the director of our own film.

Once we unchained ourselves from predetermined media and advertising we became free, and in doing so we've created a dilemma. Advertisers need to meet the needs of their consumers.

Almost every media resource is bought and paid for by advertisers but they still don't get it! How many times have you clicked on a YouTube video just to have an advertiser's commercial play.  

As difficult as the media and entertainment industry has made this whole interactive thing, there's a fairly simple solution. Start by making friends with everyone especially the consumer. And if you're not good at making friends then hire someone who is.

Superhero Stretch

Can you imagine if your friends spent their day telling you how great they were or quoting statistics on their level of friendship over your other friends?

How long would they remain your friend if they said things like "I'll spend the day with you for only $15.95 (And remember I take Paypal)?"

They would soon run low on friends. But hey they could always resort to discounts on their friendship time. Ya, that wouldn't work!
