Okay, but can we talk about the Japanese Sun&Moon commercial / ad? It’s honestly the most precious thing ever????
A Japanese kid is moving to Hawaii with his mother and loves Pokemon.
He stays up with his mother practicing his English so he can communicate with the new environment around him, it seems he isn’t completely fluent.
The next day he introduces himself in his, still budding, English and the other children don’t seem very responsive to his efforts or taken off-guard somewhat?
Out of the blue one child starts clapping for him to show some kindness and the whole class joins in on celebrating his introduction.
He wants to join the other kids at lunch but seems to feel awkward about it?
He spots the kid who showed him kindness at the Pokemon Sun and Moon release. He plays the games for a while in his mom’s car and he later spots the same kids from school vibing together.
In the end he feels encouraged about going up to approach them and introduces himself.
They pick out starters together and become friends, they play the games in different languages.
It’s very, very cute. It’s a beautiful message to send that you can reach out to another person if your true and Pokemon was a push toward that, it really did a good job conveying how important friendship is. You can be friends with someone if you try, it’s just important you try to forge a bond with them and sometimes it can just happen naturally over anything. There’s something very touching and humanizing about this commercial, the music is very good vibe-ish and uplifting. The group of children is very diverse, once again showing people from many walks of life and colors uniting together to smile and have fun.
This is only possible thanks to the simultaneous international release. Bookmark this when petitioning for other game series, yo.
Except it's not actually possible... The kid brings his 3DS from Japan (which is region-locked to not play games from the US) and plays a copy of the game he bought in the US...

We discuss dub overdramatization, the series’ relationship with adults, digivolution growing pains and growing up, and the self-fulfilling prophecy of declaring Digimon dangerous because they fight back after being declared dangerous.

honestly, my biggest gripe with Adventure and 02 (and yes, you heard me, both of them) is that they kept falling back on the assumption the audience was full of children and would easily shove at you what was eventually really bad explanations for everything
the early episodes of Adventure were full of “this Digimon can evolve in this episode but not in this one for no literal reason other than the fact the plot calls for it” and later there was “a bunch of kids just conveniently forgot the giant monster attack from four years ago” and “here’s a plot mechanic you can use, and the reason we didn’t mention its existence before is because it would have made it very hard to write the plot with it” and “it would be great if this girl had useful psychic powers that we are going to go into almost no detail about” and finally “here’s this final enemy that tenuously connects all the prior villains together with no actual logic and comes with a plot point that makes no sense and is never mentioned again”
02’s problem was that even though it had logical explanations for everything it had so many plot points by the end that it had to come up with quick on-the-fly resolutions like “oh yeah, the question of how Daisuke would trust Ken? Random Digimental, problem solved. That ocean that’s taking a mental toll on Hikari? Not a problem anymore. BlackWarGreymon? Kick him out of the picture for some episodes and bring him back when we remember he exists. Demon’s purpose? Doesn’t matter, we defeated him anyway, right? Why are all the mechanics different from Adventure? We can just keep using the word ‘distortion’, right?”
I was originally going to give props to Tamers and Savers for treating its audiences like adults and not doing this before I realized that even Frontier and Xros Wars don’t do this, it’s literally an Adventure and 02-centric problem
Yeah... I was surprised on rewatch how who can digivolve in those early episodes is mostly dictated by them only being able to digivolve once per day. But that's only commented on after the fact, and the show makes no attempt to actually explain that to the viewer during the episodes, so who can or can't really is ultimately communicated as "whatever the plot needs".
Better Anime Titles: Summer 2015
It's the end of the Summer 2015 anime season, which means it's time to take a final look at our favorite shows shows and give them the ridiculous, over-the-top anime titles they deserved. All of these alternative titles have been generated by feeding the original title into various translation services back and forth between several languages repeatedly, which is probably how the best anime titles already get their names. Note that punctuation is very important; this season was a dry spell for fans of ridiculous punctuation.
Castle Town Dandelion should have been called 「The tooth of a lion and the walls of the city」
Classroom Crisis should have been called 「Crisis」
Durarara!! ×2 The Second Arc should have been called 「Durarar!! X the second line.2, 」
Gangsta. should have been called 「It's Not Fair」
GATE should have been called 「Not.」
God Eater should have been called 「Oh, My God, I Don't」
Monster Musume should have been called 「The Devil's Museum」
Non Non Biyori Repeat should have been called 「To Avoid Air-Conditioning Standard」
Prison School should have been called 「School of Body」
