Welcome to Sterling Salads! I'm Amy and I eat a lot of salads. Here I'll share some of my favorites. All Sterling Salads begin with a strong base of greens: 3 cups. This fills a large dinner plate or bowl. As you build the salad, you'll see sink down into what seems to be a much smaller portion. Then you add the goods. For our first salad: Smoked salmon Seared onion Scrambled eggs Avocado Dressing (same as usual): Orange, 1/2 squeezed on and other for dessert Drizzle olive oil Salt sprinkle Voila! Will and I enjoyed on a crisp winter day with a bit of naan and French press cafe. Let me know if you try/like it! And share your salads - I'm aways open to salad ideas :) @amyleerobinson
A Network Map Arranging Itself
A Network Map Arranging Itself
A map of news articles about neuroscience discoveries made possible with DTI (Diffusion Tensor Imaging). DTI reveals tracts of white matter connectivity in the brain, allowing us to see which regions of the brain are talking to one another.
An Ecosystem of DTI Discoveries
About the map: Each of those colored dots is one news story. Dots are called nodes. They are connected by lines called…

TEDx Music: A Network Visualization
TEDx Music: A Network Visualization
Over the years, TEDx Music has grown from a small collection of a few songs to an exquisitely diverse catalog of over 600 tracks on SoundCloud. Getting music out there is no longer enough – it’s time to build software that facilitates discovery.
Drawing inspiration from network visualization and systems ecology, we created an interactive map of a world of innovative music. In the talk below from…

Here is a high-speed look at the impact of a raindrop on a sandy beach. In this case, a water droplet is falling on a bed of uniform glass beads, but the situation is effectively the same. Depending on the speed of the drop at impact, many types of craters are possible. The higher the impact velocity, the greater the momentum of the drop at impact and the more likely the drop is to tear apart when surface tension can no longer hold it together. Interestingly, there is remarkable similarity between the shape and behavior of these liquid drop impacts and those of a catastrophic asteroid impact. (Video credit: R. Zhao et al.)
THIS IS SO COOL.

I love to create, to build things. Especially things bringing people together. Here are a couple ideas I’ve been working on lately. If you think any of them are interesting, connect with me. They’re all in active brainstorm mode.
Rebuilt TEDx Music Projectand have been thinking a lot about how to structure visualizations of its hundreds of tracks. So far we’re leaning toward geotag for a wold…

Robots and Jobs; Man and Machine
do that without a washing machine
A recent article in Harvard Business Review hit several key points I frequently find myself debating with colleagues who exhibit less than an optimistic stance toward the future of robotics and tech in society. Enjoy some fodder for your next futuristic philosophical discussion.
“It is becoming increasingly feasible and cost-effective today for robots to assume…

Thoughts in Egypt
Hope and optimism. Notes I wrote recently in Alexandria.
Low on time, pardon my not typing them up. Still, something thoughtful about seeing real pen on paper.

First, this is beautiful. On a coast of Egypt.
Curious (tweet me your thoughts @amyleerobinson):
1. What made these tracks?

2. How awesome would it be if there were a map where you could view seasonal changes on demand? Maybe it exists and I just don’t know yet?
3. What is this?

Daniel Stoupin‘s stunning reef timelapse consists of over 15,000 macro shots; each frame is 3-12 images merged together.
Despite the gorgeous footage, this view shows a near-microscopic oceanic battleground. Daniel explains:
By day most hard corals are cute and colorful. Their polyps coexist with…
