This is Jakeâs own story, as he sees his world!
I canât remember much about my very young life, but my own story really started at around about 14 weeks, when this very nice couple came to where I was living, looking for a puppy. All I remember is sitting in the corner of the kennel, while four young lady puppies rushed over to say âHelloâ. They were very pretty blue merle collie pups and I was just a plain old âblack and whiteâ Border collie. I was thinking to myself âNo-one will ever want meâ and was resigned to a lonely life in my corner. However, to my amazement, I was the puppy they picked up to hold.
âRightâ, I thought⊠âIâm going to make the most of this and hope that they take me home with themâ, so I snuggled in as tightly as I could and gave them a big wet kiss. That turned out to be a winning move on my part, because thatâs when my own story started for real and they took me home with them.
I was determined it would be a decision they would never regret and decided from that day on to be the best friend anyone could have asked for. When we arrived at the house, where my new âMom and Dadâ lived. I felt a bit lost sitting on the kitchen floor all by myself, with no other puppies around to play with. But as the months went by I became more accustomed to the surroundings and started to enjoy my little life.
âThis is the place for meâ I thought âThereâs plenty of open space to run around in, shadows to chase and even things with feathers on that fly away when you get nearâ.
I did have a few hiccups though, when it became time to learn how to walk on one of those lead thingies⊠I wasnât too keen at first! In fact I tried very hard not to give in, but as you can guess, I did!
As time passed, I had done everything from digging holes in the flowerbeds, helping with the âunplantingâ of flowers and just managing to avoid falling into the fishpond, I reckoned my new life was going to be great.
When I was aboutâŠmmm!, let me think about thisâŠohhh! I guess I must have been about 12 months old, everything in the house was being packed away in boxes. âWhatâs goinâ on here?â I thought to myself âWhich box is mine?â. It turned out my own story was about to continue from a new home near the coastâŠ
What a great place that was. So many places to have a good old romp amongst the heather, plus there was this place called âthe beachâ. Wasnât too sure about it at first, as I got my feet wet, which was something that I didnât like at all (at first). But after going a few times, I began to realise that it wasnât such a bad place. I could run and run and not really get anywhere, but that didnât matter.
Then one day much to everyoneâs surprise, I decided to be brave and charged off into the water⊠Yippee!, Iâve got more than my feet wet now. âHey, this is funâ I thought âI can actually swimâ. I looked forward to being taken to the beach more and more as time passed.
However, after a couple of years everything was being packed in boxes again. Here we again, I thought, where are we off too this time? Didnât have long to wait. We moved to another house, but still near the sea.
I am nearly 6 years old now, (I think!) and I am sure I have been a constant source of amusement to âMom and Dadâ I reckon they have got a file full of photos and lots of fond memories⊠so far that is!
Life has been very good for me, so a great big wet-nosed thank-you to my âMom and Dadâ for picking me and taking me home with them that day. All I want to do now is to grow old with them, update my own story, from time to time and enjoy our lives together for many years to comeâŠ

As your back meets the trampoline, let your head meet it naturally too, donât jerk or twist it. You will bounce back up and then you can do it again, over and over until you achieve a good rebounding height. The more you practice this trick, the higher you will bounce back and forth!
Hereâs an intermediate trampoline trick you can do once youâve master the basic Back Landing trick. Begin the same way, standing straight and motionless, with arms at your sides or hands in your pockets. Fall straight back again, but when you bounce back up, land on your knees instead! The motion will keep sending you back and forth so you can repeat the trick as many times as you want.
Some advanced trampoline tricks include somersaults and flips. Either of these can be done backwards or forwards, but you should be very comfortable and confident with your bouncing abilities before attempting either of them. Once youâve got the flip down, you spice it up by adding a spin to it.
Before attempting any trick, ensure everyoneâs safety, including your own. Remember to look around and see how much room you have. You will definitely want to avoid a collision with any other jumpers that are on the trampoline with you. To further prevent any mishaps, warm up first by doing some simple bounces and once you get going, remember to keep your head and neck in a natural position. This way you donât hurt yourself.

Optional toppings: chopped cilantro, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream
Combine cumin, chili powder, salt and cinnamon. Coat chicken evenly with seasonings. Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and cook 5 minutes. Add chicken and garlic. Cook 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in tomatoes, salsa and raisins. Bring to a simmer. Cover and cook 10 minutes.
Stir in beans. Cover and continue to simmer 5 minutes. Ladle into bowls and serve with desired toppings. Makes 6 servings.

In many states, the associates degree nursing programs are quite rigorous and provide more clinical experience than most bachelorâs degree nursing programs. This means that students graduating nursing school with an associates degree in nursing are often better prepared to deal with patient care than those who have the âsuperior degreeâ. One of those benefits that speaks volumes to me is the fact that teachers in community colleges are dedicated to teaching. They are not working on their own research or books. They are there for the purpose of helping you achieve your goals, which means you arenât an interruption in their pursuit of their own goals.
Community colleges also offer an excellent buffer for students who may not have been on top of their game academically in high school or those who are returning to college after a long absence from academia. You wonât find the large auditorium classes on the community college level that major universities are famous for offering. You also wonât find that teachers do not have time for their students. There is a lower teacher to student ratio in community colleges so that professors will have time to address the needs of students.
Another benefit is that even if you do not go on to get your four year degree after completing your community college education you will find that your earning potential is significantly improved over those who do not have at least a two-year college education. Research also indicates that students who complete a two-year degree program at a community college are more likely to finish and get a four-year degree than those students who begin their educational experience at a four-year university.
There are a few problems that can be associated with a community college education and you should take note of these so that they do not become a problem for you. First of all, some universities do not accept many of the courses that are offered on the community college level as transfer credits. Make sure that you know what courses are required for the university that you are planning to transfer to in order to avoid this. You also may find that you are limited on the courses you can take and the times in which they will be available. Make sure that you have all the limited courses well ahead of time so that you arenât taking another year of classes in order to graduate.
All in all, a community college education can be just as enlightening as a university education if you enter into the process with an open mind and a willingness to learn. I hope you take advantage of this much less expensive option before moving on to university courses if possible.

Living in todayâs metropolitan world of cellular phones, mobile computers and other high-tech gadgets is not just hectic but very impersonal. We make money and then invest our time and effort in making more money. Does it end? Not usually because we are never satisfied. How many times have we convinced ourselves that if only we had some more money, life would be so sweet? But then, after receiving a substantial raise, we realize that it wasnât enough and that we need more?
What Should You Do?
I have read many books on life such as Robin Sharmaâs Monk says this and the monk says that, and they all seem to say that money is not necessary. But it is. Can you do without cash and a lot of it? I know I canât.
So, I went to the neighbourhood Rabbi and asked for advice that will help me find my true way in life.
The rabbi nodded and took me to the window. âWhat do you see?â he asked me.
Promptly, I answered, âI can see people walking to and fro and a blind man is begging for alms at the left corner.â
The Rabbi nodded and guided me to a big mirror. âNow look and tell me what you see?â
âI can see myself,â I man answered.
The Rabbi smiled. âNow you canât see anyone else. The mirror and the window are both created from the same raw material: glass, but because on one of them they have applied a thin layer of silver, when you look at it all you can see is your own reflection.â
The Rabbi placed his arm on my shoulders. âCompare yourself to those two pieces of glass. Without the silver layer, you saw the other people and felt compassion for them. When you are covered with silver, you see only yourself.â
I looked at the Rabbi and stared. âI donât understand.â
The Rabbi continued. âYou will become someone only if have the courage to remove the silver covering over your eyes in order to again see and love others.â He patted me on my back and sent me on my way.
I have thought of what he said and come to the conclusion that he had a point. Yes. We need money and we should not aim to lead a moneyless existence; its pointless and will only cause us and our families many heartbreaks in the future.
Instead, I suggest that we should follow the advice the Rabbi gave me. When we approach life through a silver covering, all we are able to see is ourselves. But discard that covering, and you will be able to see and feel everyone else.
In life, we are allowed to and should be able to look at both kinds of mirrors, but we should remember that a mirror reflects only us; a window is the door to compassion, health and true wealth. In other words, seek wealth by all means, but donât let it dissuade you from life, people, children and the poor and needy.

Teach your dog to stay out of the nursery
Start right away putting up a baby gate or keeping the door closed to help your dog learn to stay out of the babyâs room. Later on, you can allow the dog in the room, especially if you are in there, but itâs best to prepare him at first to stay away.
Introduce your dog to some other babies
If heâs never been around a baby, carefully introduce some into his life. He is much less likely to be anxious around your baby if he is introduced gradually.
Make sure he is well trained
A babyâs behavior is not predictable, so your dog has to be the grown up in this case. If your dog does not obey you, itâs time for some training before the baby arrives. If your dog is a male, and you havenât had him neutered, this is a good time for that, too. It should make the dog calmer and more well mannered.
Then, thereâs the cat â some of the same ideas work for cats, too, except that training them to stay out of a room is pretty difficult. They scale baby gates, and cribs, by the way with ease. So, in addition to a baby gate, itâs wise to purchase a net to go over the crib, to keep the cat out. Also, if your cat sleeps with you, donât put the baby in your bed with the cat in the room.
For both types of pets, keep the food and water bowl away from the baby. Babies love to play in them, and this can not only make a mess, but can cause the animal to be even more jealous. Also, at some point, if your child can get to the pet food, he will try to eat it. I promise.
Your child and your pets should develop a good relationship with little trouble. Just be diligent for a while until everybody is comfortable, and you should continue to have a happy home.

Smoked Sausage And Beans
2 lg. pork-n-beans (3-21 oz. cans)
1 pt. chili sauce
1 c. barbecue sauce

1 1/2 lbs. smoked sausage (sliced into bite-size pieces)
On a 12-inch Dutch oven, place all ingredients in Dutch oven. Mix together.
Bake for 30 minutes at 375 degrees.
Crock Pot Chicken In Mushroom Gravy
3 whole chicken breasts, halved
1/4 c. dry white wine or chicken broth
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms, sliced
Salt & pepper
Place chicken pieces in crock pot. Season with salt and pepper. Mix wine and soup. Pour over chicken. Add mushrooms. Cover and cook on low for 7 to 9 hours or high 3 to 4 hours. Recipe may be doubled in 5-quart crock pot.
Spiced Fruit Cobbler
4 cans or 1 qt. fruit
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp. sugar
1 pkg. white cake mix
1 1/2 c. water
1 1/2 c. water
2 eggs
Place drained fruit slices in bottom of Dutch oven. Sprinkle with spices and sugar. Blend cake mix, water and eggs.
Pour over fruit mixture. Cover and cook 25-35 minutes at 350 degrees.
