Matt Cutshall’s short story about his career
By no means does my story compare to this little boy, but I wanted to share some encouragement to anyone who feels hopeless right now... Because you don't need to come from money to make it. I moved out of my mom's house at 16 years old. I was the youngest person to work at Car Stereo City - selling car stereo systems. All my co-workers were 22-40 years old. I worked full time while other kids my age were hitting beer bongs on Friday night. *my mom was the best. I just didn't wanna live in California at the time. All my friends were in Oregon. I worked at Office Depot, car stereo city, Elmer's, marketing at a modelling agency, lake view restaurant, Hollister, radio Disney and Nordstrom. Saving money wasn't easy working for close to minimum wage but I managed to save about $1200. Just enough to get me to LA. At 21 I moved to LA and crashed on a friend's girlfriend's couch for about 2 weeks until I was booted. Thank God I made some friends in those two weeks so I had a few couches to sleep on throughout my first stage of living in LA. Shout out to Dustin for letting me crash at your girlfriend's place without telling her I was coming :)) I swept hair, personal assisted a club promoter, worked at Nordstrom again, then worekd at Sur Restaurant. All while writing music, recording an album with a band I started with my best friend. We toured for 4 years on and off. When we came home from tour we'd all work again to save for the next tour. I started doing Vines when I worked at Sur restaurant. I remember celebrating 2000 followers by diving into a pool. So amateur. Was on vine for almost 2 years until I got my first brand deal. It was like $800 to create 4 vine videos promoting a sock company. Long long long story short, I worked full time and also created videos every single day for 4 years. I made over 2500 vines. When brand deals started picking up I hired some help and formed my own production company. I worked and saved and worked and saved some more until I could buy my first property. I bought it with my brother and my buddy Fernando aka Fern aka Fezzyjayy We rent the top traditionally and AirBnB the bottom. A couple years later, I worked and saved some more and bought my second property. I rent it out and make a profit every month. I love real estate. If you do it right, you'll have forever income. Long story long, I own 3 properties now and I am currently building a 6 townhome project. I plan on doing a large construction project every 1-2 years until I feel financially wealthy enough to retire and have enough for my kids and their kids. Please know that I'm not bragging. I simply wanted to share my story to encourage anyone who's down on their luck or in a situation where they feel stuck that If you have big dreams but feel you cannot make them come true, you are VERY wrong. Just know that with enough hard work and dedication and allowing yourself enough time, you can make your wildest dreams come true! If no on has told you lately - I BELIEVE IN YOU!
