After Obamas PSA on the Grammys, I thought this was relevant.
Katy Perry alone is not going to fix the NFL’s worst problem
Taking on domestic violence with a wink and a smile. Recent public statements aside, no one expects Perry to make the halftime show, which an estimated 115 million people watched last year, into a bold referendum against domestic violence. In fact, such a display would run contrary to her public persona.
The NFL is going to have to do a lot more than that
1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. We need to change that.
Watch A Path Appears featuring Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn on PBS, Monday, Feb. 9 at 10/9c to learn about the interventions that are working to end domestic violence in America.
February is Teen DV Month!
Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (Teen DV Month) is here! Throughout the month of February, teens and organizations across the country will be working together to raise awareness about teen dating violence. At loveisrespect, we know it’s a serious issue; after all, we speak to thousands of teens and young adults every month about their relationship concerns and questions.
Did you know:
1 in 3 teens in the U.S. is the victim of physical, sexual, emotional, or verbal abuse by a dating partner, a figure that far exceeds other types of youth violence
Girls and young women between the ages of 16 and 24 experience the highest rate of intimate partner violence (almost triple the national average)
Violent relationships in adolescence can have serious ramifications by putting victims at higher risk for substance abuse, eating disorders, risky sexual behaviors, and further domestic violence
Want to get involved?
There are lots of options:

One of the most infuriating arguments I keep hearing defending 50 Shades is “well Ana was aroused even when she said no so that means she actually wanted it and that means it was consensual uwu” STOP
AROUSAL. DOES. NOT. EQUAL. CONSENT. EVER.
This.
Woop there it is

Swedish man accused of killing girlfriend in Fifty Shades of Grey-style sado-masochistic sex game
Major TW for violence against women
A Swedish man is to go on trial charged with killing his girlfriend in a Fifty Shades of Grey-style sado-masochistic sex game.
"The unnamed 31-year-old is accused of killing his German girlfriend after she was hit 123 times with a wooden blackboard pointer while bound with nylon tights and condoms.
The man claims the 28-year-old woman was a willing ‘sex slave’, but police later found a diary in which she wrote: “You once said you did not want to see me in real pain. I am subservient but no masochist.”
The man was charged last week in connection with the woman’s death in October. She is said to have been an exchange student who had only been in the country for nine days to meet the boyfriend she had befriended on a previous visit and had kept in touch with online.
Police said the man raised the alarm after he noticed his partner had stopped breathing during their S&M session at his home in Umea, northern Sweden.
He tried in vain to resuscitate her before the ambulance arrived, with the woman spending two days in intensive care before her life support machines were switched off.
She is said to have sustained “terrible” brain damage as a result of her airways being restricted.
Local prosecutor Åsa Jonsson said she had her mouth stuffed with something which led directly to her death, adding: “It is our belief he is directly responsible for her death.”
The manslaughter trial gets underway next week.”

Horrifying and sad. This is why we’re posting so much about the movie. IT IS TEXTBOOK ABUSE AND A TEXTBOOK FOR ABUSE.

While fighting, my boyfriend smashed our vacuum and the living room window. He pinned me to the wall by my arms and punched a dent next to my head, he kept grabbing my wrists and arms and yelling at me. I tried to hit him and he body slammed me to the ground. When I told him it was over he threatened to kill himself and I apologized. A week later I tried to talk to him about it, he told me that I deserved it and was lucky because it could have been worse. Now we’re acting like nothing happened.

Domestic violence, rape, or any other form of sexual or mental abuse is absolutely unacceptable. Any person who thinks that any of the aforementioned is okay is a seriously sick individual.
