Funny that the stereotypical cynic is an idealist who aged out of it. In my experience, the reverse is true. I was an extreme cynic as a teenager and then I noticed how profoundly limiting it was, and also that "cynics are cool and smart" was a message that was being constantly reinforced by corporate media for some reason.

I also think that the present era has proven that authoritarian leaders don't actually want a population of wide-eyed idealists, they want a population of jaded assholes who are convinced that everyone is lying, any resistance is either a scam or doomed to failure, and nothing can ever get better.

She a foster kid . I used to let her babysit for me but her foster mother is a bitch and would lock her out of the apartment so I decided to stop because I was afraid that she would lock her out. The foster home is bad and acs knows that but they kept placing her right back there because they said they don't have anywhere else to place her. I was a foster kid so she's always had a special place in my heart because I've been in her shoes. I remember being told by a social worker at 3am in the parking lot of a projects building in Brownsville Brooklyn that it was a bad foster home but we don't have anywhere else to place you. Wtf do u mean ??? Why the fuck are abusive homes even allowed to still be foster homes 🤬. I haven't seen her in a lil while so I don't know why she is in the bronx damn near yonkers or if that lady is still her foster mother . And my ex friend is a ghost she changed her number me nor her niece have it . She just fucked us out of her life. She's 16 and have delt with being born to a drug addicted mother and doesn't know who her father is. Her mom gave her to a pimp/drug dealer as payment and she never seen her mom again. I met her while she was waiting for my ex friend ( when we were still friends) and I had a conversation with her while waiting for my friend to come home. From there she became attached to me and I've always had her back. My friend kinda just seen annoyed with her so I took her under my wing. That's like my lil sister I just hope we can get to her so she at least has me by her side while she deals with this trauma

Sorry just need to get back to get back to Brooklyn with her I'm about to get some food for us and then would like to get a cab home. She doesn't want people looking at her because her face is very badly injured.She asked if she could come to my house to heal so I'm taking her she's scared to call the foster care worker cause she doesn't wanna go back to that woman's house apparently the womans boyfriend made her go up there to sell her to some guys so that they could get crack and they gang raped her . He left her there after he got the drugs and the foster mother turned her phone off after she tried to call her. I'm gonna do my best to find her some help but tonight I'm gonna let her sleep and relax after what she's been through at least she be somewhere she will be safe

The police spoke with her at the hospital. Tomorrow they want her to come in to look through the photo book to see if either of them are in there and whatever else information they need from her. I'll be right there with her holding her hand along the way . I got her back

Also getting some first aid supplies just so she can clean her wounds and change her bandages when she needs to . They did a rape kit and everything so she can shower when she gets to my house and I got some clean clothes she can throw on . I'm just happy she's alive and she called me . I know what it feels like to deal with this alone and it's a struggle she's a kid she should have to be let down by every single adult in her life .

i did know this before having kids (i have six). we have a kid that's needed multiple procedures requiring anesthesia. and every single time, i am asked multiple times if i'm sure he was not given any food or water after a certain point.

every single time i have had to say, "i understand that if he had food or water, he could aspirate it into his lungs under anesthesia. i am not lying to you." THEN someone would make a little note and i would stop being repeatedly asked.

not a single time was that risk explained to me. the only reason it came up was because i already knew. i still don't understand why it isn't standard pre-op counseling or pre-op check information, when me as a parent acknowledging the actual risk also put THE MEDICAL STAFF at ease because i conveyed that i had informed understanding as reason to not lie about giving my kid food.

"maybe some people will get nervous and refuse surgery" okay so they need more counseling about risks and anxiety, not less information in a way that actually does endanger their child or themselves!
