Two weeks ago today was the last time I FaceTimed with my dad while he was recovering in the hospital. He asked me about the kids and how I was holding up (from losing my pup) and he was happy that I was having such a good week - that I hadn’t cried for a few days. We said we loved each other and we hung up not knowing the nightmare that was about to unfold in a matter of hours. Now, I have had to put my grieving and mourning on hold as I deal with the messiness that comes as being one of the executors of his estate. I had been in his room taking down picture frames and I stopped to cry. Later, as I was going through papers in his office, I encountered this printout. I smiled as the tears ran down my face because I know that if he could make himself heard, this is exactly what he would be telling me...”don’t cry for me! Smile and only remember the good laughs we shared!” Dad, I know we had our ups and downs throughout the years, but one thing that never wavered was...I always loved you! I lost my father last week. It has felt like one long bad dream that we’re going to wake up from and he’ll still be here with us. Reality finally hit yesterday at the burial service. Had an amazing Sunday hiking back at Donut Falls. The hike is beautiful and climbing up and down the rocks is a blast! I decided to trek to the very top by myself (can you spot me at the top - it’s a “Where’s Susanna!”) and then go back in the cave where the waterfall comes down! Rosie and I had been there 2 weeks ago, but wanted to go back and my Baby Boy joined us. I also was able to run down a good part of the trail back towards the car, which was amazing. Forgot how much I enjoy trail running! Until next week, we’ll have to find a new trail to explore! My intention was to complete the 52 miles on Saturday, but I wasn’t prepared for the new bike and didn’t have the cushion on my seat or padding in my pants and after 13 miles, I knew I had to stop, so I counted this as the Spartan Virtual Sprint. The actual was just over 2 hours with all of the obstacles. The best part, is I made a friend on the trail and we’ve decided we’ll go bike riding every Saturday! Looking forward to getting out more often. I got up after the first 15 miles (50 mins) to stretch and the machine reset. I worked all day and didn’t finish up until 1am. I had committed to doing the 2.23 miles in memory of Ahmaud. I took my dog with me and was running within my neighborhood. I had been around the loop twice and by 1:30, I removed his leash as this is part of his training when I take him out at night - he is to stay next to me. As we come around the corner, there is a couple with their dog off leash (this dog never has his leash and is always running towards my dog and taunts him) so they run towards each other. My dog looks scary but he’s not aggressive. They’re running so I chase after them and my dog comes back running towards me. I releash him and I make him sit. The guy alone comes at me, yelling at me. I’m 5’2” and he’s a good 6’5” and he’s aggressively getting closer to tower over me while he’s pointing his finger in my face - he’s claiming my dog is being aggressive as he has me corned in a dark pathway yelling at me. I’m sorry, but the way he approached me and how he was yelling, if my dog was aggressive, he would have attacked him right there! I was so angry it has took me over 45 minutes after i was done to just stop shaking. I finished my run without my dog but I could not shake off the anger I felt in how aggressive this guy was towards me. If i was a guy, he would not have treated me the way he did! It reminded me why I was running - this bullying and need to attack people whether physically or verbally needs to stop. I will address this in the morning because this was not okay. I’ve dealt with men like him and I will not stand for it. So unlike most of you men that ran without fear of being attacked, I began my run thinking the same thing. Didn’t realize how wrong I was.
