Dorks
Another old comic I neglected to ever post. And as I sit here paralyzed with indecision about what to say about it, Iām remembering why, lmao. Glasses guy is Echo, hopefully the rest are obvious enough.Ā
Hey friends, sorry I kind of evaporated for a month there. I've been seeing quite a bit of activity on this blog lately (and for TCW stuff on my main blog), which is understandable, so I figured I'd clarify a few points about where this blog is at.
- I haven't watched season 7, and tbh I don't plan on doing so anytime soon. I'm not in a place right now where I want to subject myself to that kind of angsty media. But I do know most of the spoilers and there are already plot points in this AU that do relate to some stuff in S7, so technically this isn't a spoiler-free zone.
- The askbox is temporarily closed, partly due to backlog and partly because I didn't want to get any asks directly about S7 š But I'm not on hiatus or anything so feel free to drop me a chat message!
- I accidentally put that pile of doodles in a "safe" place a few weeks ago and promptly lost them, but I found them again so I'll try to get more posted soon!
Uhh I think that's it? Welcome to the new followers!
Oh and if it's still May 5th in your timezone, blow a kiss to Fives because it's his birthday in this AU! š
Assorted little AU doodlies from various sketchbook pages. Context for the bottom-right one is that Echo and Jesse called Uncle Alphaās dog aĀ ā100lb pile of hairā so Rex is pretending to think they were talking about Tup.Ā
First up from the recently-excavated pile of unposted AU doodles: a tag of sorts to this old comic. I still live for this inverted dynamic of Anakin as the dumb rookie with Rex as his irreverent superior.Ā
Iām kinda late to this AU, but it is quickly becoming an unhealthy obsession. Therefore, it is with the desperation of a sleep deprived crack addict that I throw myself at your feet and humbly request more Fett fluff
Hey welcome! You're just in time for the renaissance! I've been binge-reading this blog as well to remind myself of things, and at one point I noticed a reference to a comic that I KNOW I started drawing, but never finished/posted. After turning my apartment upside down, I finally found a whole binder full of loose sketchbook pages and YOU GUYS, THERE'S SO MUCH DV HERE. Like, I understand why past!me didn't post most of these. A lot of it is really sketchy and repetitive. But there's also some gems. So this week I'm gunna work on getting some sketchdump posts up. For context, here's a pic of the pile. Every page has at least one tiny thing on it that I haven't posted yet.
So the current situation got me thinking... how would the Fetts handle quarantine/isolation?
Tbh I often try to avoid referencing bad IRL events in this AU because it feels in poor taste, BUT Iām also a HUGE fukkin hypocrite and this current thing has been so memeād everywhere that I have actually been thinking about it. oTL
So hereās my list of āstupid fandom takes on a real actual crisis:āĀ
Echo and Fivesā apartment is full of interesting and bizarre āas seen on TVā gadgets. Some are legit items that function to make Echoās life easier, but the rest is totally ridiculous shit that has no benefit to anyone beyond the amusement factor. Both bros have weird work schedules and are sometimes inĀ āday modeā at ass oāclock, so they watch a lot of strange infomercials. And since a lot of those ads have theĀ āOrder now and get a second one free!ā deal, they always have a stash of emergency gag gifts. (Well, semi-gag. Anakin sometimes gets the legit ones, though he usually prefers to build his own gadgets.)
I still think about this idea every time I see a ridiculous infomercial. Just imagine: 20-something bachelors Fives and Echo sitting on a couch at 3am, slightly slack-jawed and entranced by the tv. Echo watches some grinning white lady shake a container full of eggs that claims to magically peel them. "Do... Do you think that actually works...?"
Fives, grabbing the phone and dailing the number on the screen: "Only one way to find out."
Hereās a little thing I wrote for this AU eons ago but didnāt post at the time because reasons. Itās kinda relevant now though.
Though Jesse was the one that Echo first stirred for, Rex was the one on Echo Watch when the latter actually woke up from his coma. Echo wasnāt super lucid, but he could tell something weird was going on. Perturbed, he shifted around a bit and made a small noise of displeasure. Rex nearly broke his own neck looking up from his book at the speed of light. They locked eyes, and Echo seemed to come to the conclusion that Rex was on top of things, so he relaxed and fell into regular sleep. Rex was stunned, and then quite startled when the door opened to admit a nurse, because he didnāt realize that heād instinctively slammed the call button.
I was thinking about this AU today, only to discover that you are back from hiatus :D. I love this AU so much. Since Luke & Leia are now 8, what's a regular week at the Skywalker-Amidala house?
Hey nice timing! And thanks :3Ā
I know a lot of people with kids but I donāt tend to interact with any myself, so my search history is now full of things like, āWhen can kids walk to school alone,ā haha. But anyways yeah, Padme and Anakin both work full-time, so I imagine mornings are pretty chaotic with everyone trying to get ready and out the door at roughly the same time. Itās a little better now that the kids are old enough to manage more by themselves, but Luke can be hard to keep on-task and Leia can be extremely stubborn.Ā
Padme and Anakin are both independent sorts, and Anakin was raised particularly free-range, so I donāt imagine there was too much angst over the kids walking themselves to and from school by now. Well, actually Anakin does have an overprotective streak so he probably secretly followed them the first couple times. But Leia really likes school and is the type to beeline determinedly towards a goal, and Luke doesnāt like being left behind so he keeps up. Due to their parents working, I imagine the kids donāt usually go straight home at the end of the school day, either staying for activities or ending up with their grandparents or uncles for a while somehow.Ā
The more I think about it, the more unsure I am of which of L&Lās parents cook. I have a hard time picturing either as being really great at it, tbqh. :āD But I also feel like ādinner together as a familyā is important to them, so maybe they just take it in turns to get something relatively simple made. Idk, just the idea that theyāre both really competent and admired at work but struggle to figure out a box of Hamburger Helper is so funny to me.Ā
Iām also really Soft⢠for the notion that most of the main characters in this AU consider themselves to be one big sprawling extended family, so on any given week the Skywalkers probably join or host at least some other member(s) for dinner. Rex drops by fairly regularly, especially now that Tup is away at college. He just follows Anakin home and subtly takes over their kitchen, lmao.Ā
That was probably a rather perfunctory answer, but tbh I donāt often have deep thoughts on the Skywalker fam, so Iām not sure offhand what kinds of specific activities they tend to engage in. ^^;
For Kix and Reveth's kids, some other clone medics are Korbel, Oake, and Splice, if that is at all helpful. As for twins/triplets- identicals of either is always a gold mine of clone jokes (twins could mean the other brothers ribbing cody/rex about one of them not producing twins). Maybe it also lends itself to a lot of shenanigans? Like the classic sitcom multiples ganging up on the parents
Thanks for the suggestions! I'm not sure how I feel about "Splice" as a baby name. But Oake intrigues me. I did a quick surf of wookiepedia and I guess Oake is like a defector who became a mercenary in a video game called "Mask of the Pirate Queen" or something? Which is kind of a fabulous tie-in to Kix and Reveth being space pirates in future canon. Also "Oake" strikes me as a name that toes the line between word and name, like Holly, Forest, Hunter, etc. But with a spelling twist that makes it a little trendy/yuppie. Feels right for Kix's kid, lol.
Korbel I'm of two minds on because on the one hand it's a really nice-sounding name. But on the other hand, if you Google it you just get stuff about a brand of champagne. šĀ For now I think I'm gunna use Oake for their first son and keep thinking about names for their other future kids.
As for those future kids being identical twins, I'm definitely leaning that way.
- Reveth is a Twi'lek in canon. Twin lekku⦠twins⦠idk it make me chuckle.
- Despite having 2 other sets of twins in this AU already, neither pair is purely identical! Cody and Rex are really damn close, but they biffed it on the hair. (Also in my mind Cody is a little stockier, but that might come down to different workout routines). And obviously Luke and Leia aren't identical. So there's fun left to be had with identical twin jokes.
- The genetics of identical twins actually seem pretty complicated and up for debate. People are quick to point to Kix's brothers as evidence that twins run in his family, but he and his medical degree are equally quick to launch into a lecture that no one listens to, lmao. After a while he gives up and it becomes a bit of an in-joke. Like Cody will be bouncing the twins in his arms and telling Kix that he's glad someone in the family put their twin genes to good use, purely to revel in the long-suffering glare Kix gives him in response.Ā
I was so happy to see a notification that you were posting again appear ! You're one of the few blogs I have on alert and I love this verse so much
Thank you so much!! I constantly forget that alerts are a thing this site offers... sorry to anyone Iām pinging at god-forsaken times of night! owo;;
in honor of it being Friday the 13th (and tup's b-day, happy birthday bby!!), does anyone have any strange superstitions?
Idk about particularly strange specific superstitions, but some characters are definitely superstitious!Ā
First of all, Qui-Gon, obviously. :āD But itās never clear how serious heās being about it. He enjoys how his airy-fairy ātrust in the cosmic vibes of the universeā schtick annoys his more practical family members. So itās hard to say how much he really puts stock in newspaper horoscopes vs how much heās just acting like heās taking the advice seriously in order to troll his wife and sons. He also cheats with loaded dice so Iām not sure how much he believes in luck, lmao. But heās on board with concepts like karma, is very open-minded about ghosts and fae, and probably has some odd rituals and beliefs that other people would call superstitions.Ā
Case strikes me as the type to believe positive superstitions like good luck charms. Heās gotten away with a lot of ridiculous stunts, after all. He probably has a tattoo or two of luck symbols; no sense taking chances. He also likes to bequeath good luck charms to other people. No one else in his immediate family will admit to believing in luck, but they all secretly keep the charms anyway. :ā)
DB is probably a very random character for me to bring up, but in my mind his characterization in this AU has secretly been influenced by Eugene from Hey Arnold. Or at least the vague things I remember about the character from my childhood. But so like⦠heās this squirrely, often nervous and put-upon sort. And really gullible. Which doesnāt work out for him well, having Hevy and Cutup as brothers... Anyway heās pretty superstitious in that āhedging his betsā way. Like, probably ghosts and curses arenāt real. But what if they are?? Why take the chance, when itās just as easy to not step on sidewalk cracks, or to toss a little salt over your shoulder if you spill it. He avoids walking under ladders and feels more paranoid than usual on Friday the 13ths. He likes cats (the family cat Nub likes him the best actually), but he wouldnāt consider getting aĀ black one himself. Why tempt fate?
Soooo I just saw you reopened your inbox (if you clsoed it again by the time i sent this, sorry!!) but how fast do ya bois catch onto each other's current obsessions? Like when they were living together as kids, who's the first to come home with a new game/movie//book/etc and be obsessed about it while the others are "meh" about it. And how fast does the deescalate into them all forming a wrestle pile over the new thing? Sorry if this doesn't make sense!
The box is still open; youāre good! And I totally get what youāre saying. Iām not sure I have a great answer, though? Like, there are some things they probably picked up instantly from each other, but other things they made fun of each other for liking. And then sometimes a little of both. Or first scoffing at a new thing but then secretly thinking itās cool and getting caught sneaking into another broās room to play with it. Basically this is a really intriguing question and I want to try to give it more thought for more specific scenarios, but I also donāt want it to rot in my inbox while Iām sitting here being indecisive. So for now hereās just a few random thoughts on the semi-related subject of copycats:
Fives tended to copy a thing in spirit but intentionally put a twist on it to make it his own. Like, he thought it was super cool that Cody was on the football team and liked to play backyard games with him and their other bros and cousins. But when it came time to sign up for a school sports team himself, Fives chose lacrosse instead.Ā
Echo got his nickname partly from how much he copycatted his older brothers, but that was mostly because he was more hesitant about stuff as a kid and felt more confident doing things that heād already seen examples of.Ā
Cody and Rex gave up long ago trying to intentionally either match or oppose each other for interests, because either way people gave them grief about it. So they just did what they felt like and sometimes had moments of, āah damn, we did that brainshare thing again. Oh well.ā
Rex and cousin Denal both have this natural vibe of mysterious coolness to them (though Cody for one knows that Rex can actually be quite a dork occasionally), so pretty much anything they got into was picked up by the younger Fetts quickly.Ā
As a little kid, Tup tended to try to get into whatever Dogma was into just because he wanted someone to play with and letting Dogma pick was easier than the alternative, but none of the hobbies really stuck.
Hey! I found your blog through AO3, while was going through, uh, think it was Codywan tag at the time, and just wanted to tell how much I love your AU! The Fett boys and their relatives and the way they interact with each other is both precious and hilarious.
Thank you! ^^ I should send @akathecentimetre a gift basket; sheās lured quite a few people to this blog via her awesome tie-in fics ;)
Hello, nice to see you back! One thing I've liked are the occasional forays into the next generation, i.e. Jesse, Kix, and Fives' families. Reminds me of my own family, with my cousins all having kids. So, any new tidbits on those guys? Or, if that's too general, maybe Kix and Reveth's son? (I don't recall if you had a name for him yet?) Where does he fit in with his cousins, age-wise? Does he have any eventual siblings, or is he a rare only child Fett? (and how does everyone feel about that?)
Hi, thanks! The Fett babies are an odd thing for me; Iām generally really really disinterested in OCs, but these rugrats started to grow on me. Though there still isnāt really that much to them in terms of characterization, I guess. Just different little kid tropes. Like, Tala is the gregarious sporty type, while Kiri is the quiet tutu girl (with shades of Bonnie from Toy Story maybe?). Kida and Rohan are borrowed characters so Iāll have to refresh myself on them before talking out my butt too much, but IIRC Kida is sort of bold and irreverent while Rohan is more reserved?Ā
I havenāt settled on anything for Kixās son yet in terms of name or personality, but I donāt plan on him being an only child. At one point I was pondering making Kixās next kids twins or triplets, actually. But without some kind of specific joke or reference, nothing motivated me enough to decide. Part of me was vaguely contemplating making more TFA-era references, mostly because I never intend for the AU to actually stretch that far into the future anyway. But it would probably just be making trouble for myself to knot up the timeline more. (Though coincidentally, Jesseās third daughter Jana shares a name with the RoS character Jannah. Different spelling, but same pronunciation in my mind.)
Anyway, timeline-wise, Iām thinking Kix and Reveth take their time and donāt start having kids until the late 20teens. Partly because Reveth strikes me as the type with Other Shit To Do, so she doesnāt want to add a kid to the mix until she and Kix have had plenty of ājust a coupleā time to travel and do stuff thatās harder with a kid in tow. And they want to be firmly settled into their jobs and marriage so they can more easily split taking time off to care for a baby. But also because itās way funnier to me if Kix delivered Rabe & Fivesā baby with absolutely NO delivery room experience, not even for his own kid yet. Heād just seen powerpoint lectures and ancient VHS instructional videos, but still smoothly BSād his way through it.Ā
But yeah, I guess feel free to suggest stuff for Kixās kid(s). Bearing in mind that references and jokes are what I tend to gravitate towards. Other clone medic names maybe? Did that comic that Reveth in it ever come out? Maybe thereās something in there to use...
