“I mean, it's sort of exciting isn't it? Breaking the rules”
- Hermione Granger
That’s how she looked
I adore her. She poisoned their soup (she was working in the cantine and was forced to serve the occupying nazis) and ATE the same soup to proove her innocence. Then she rushed home to her grandma who gave her a whole jar of milk to drink and throw up.
lmao she shot the interrogator with his own gun. and she was a member of a resistance movement named Young Avengers.
she was 17. teenage girls are so fucking hardcore

today in “things i’m disproportionately emotional about”:
it’s facial reconstructions of prehistoric humans!!
like, look at this part-homo sapiens, part-neandertal man from well over 30,000 years ago:
doesn’t he just look like a dude you’d wanna hang out with? like he probably washes dishes in the kitchen with you, and has excellent weed
what a charming fellow. what stories he probably has to tell. i’d definitely go shoot the shit with him on Contemplation Rock after i’d finished my day’s work carving a bone flute for the autumn hunting ceremony, or whatever
people have been people ever since people first became people, i tell you what
they all had lives and histories and families and friends and dumb gossip and games they played and total bullshit in which they believed wholeheartedly
they all argued about the nature of the world, and of themselves
they all sang songs
they all drew pictures
they all buried their dead in graves, and they buried their dead in graves well before they did a lot of that other stuff. they buried their dead with flowers, with panther claws, with the bones of animals they’d killed, with the bones of family members who had died at the same time or earlier. they buried their dead with their arms folded across their chests
they fell in love
they took care of their old and their sick and their disabled, even when it cost them
they made new things, and worried about what the new things meant for people everywhere, as a whole
Oh I like him he looks like he would appreciate my jokes
This dude would have great stories at a get-together and would bring some really great homemade dip.
I feel like he really digs Lo-Fi Music
This guy was sculpted by Alfons and Adrie Kennis, and their Neanderthal reconstructions are all delightful.
I love the kid in the last picture a lot- they look like a kid, just a little kid who’s done some mischief and is trying not to laugh about it.
I also adore their Lucy- they’ve struck a wonderful balance between the falling angel and the rising ape.
And their Turkana boy- there’s something precious and wistful in those eyes.
But my favorite has got to be their reconstruction of H. floresiensis.
Just look at her. That’s a face of someone who’s lived and seen a lot, but also a face that’s known love and joy and laughter. That’s a face with a soul.
Yes! When we honor the ancestors, these are the faces we’re reaching out to. (Minus a couple depending on each of our unique ancestries.) 💜
having to be “mature” at a young age sucks bc you aren’t really “mature-mature” you’re a child playing at a maturity bc you don’t have the foundation to be the bigger person when conflict arrives so what you do is ignore it bc ignoring a problem and being happy about a resolution look the same to your inexperienced eyes. Then you get adults praising you for a development above your peers but you aren’t really developing. You’re stagnant. Your peers will grow up and experience things and make mistakes and grow from them but you will keep yourself in this box, ignoring things ignoring ignoring ignoring until one day you have to face the fact… it wasn’t maturity you had. It was fear. And now you’re an adult too and you make all of your choices based on an emotional risk/costs analysis bc you don’t know any emotion other than fear & you have to start healing from your own childhood by making peace that you weren’t really a mature child. You were just a child who was given too much to carry & didn’t know how to say “no”.
i feel like this is gonna upset some people but i have to say it. i struggled very severely with mental heath issues for most of my life and im not obliged to anyone to give more details than that but do you know what finally helped me into recovery after years of toxic cycles? i had a therapist who, every time i started going on a rant that seemed to be victimising myself or looking for sympathy, she’d stop me and say “what are you looking for from me? what do you want me to say?” she’d call out my own desperate seeking for validation and sympathy and she cut those coping mechanisms right out of me eventually. and i hated her. i really did. i thought why are you trying to stop me from looking for sympathy?im struggling? but what i’ve realised in hindsight is that in that mindset of self victimisation you can never recover because youre holding yourself down and wallowing in your pain because you think you need it to appeal to others.youre missing something and youre substituting it by being able to make people pity you. and im not saying dont share your pain with others because thats a vital part of recovery too but think what your motives are.dont go into a victim mindset at the first sign of trouble because that puts you in a position without power over yourself and your situation! i thought id never be able to recover whilst still being in a toxic household and yet i did because i stopped making myself the victim. yes allow your pain, yes acknowledge your feelings and say that theyre warranted and deserved, but stop seeing your position as a place thats impossible to get out of. posting all these self deprecating memes and deeply personal posts to share to the masses… question your motives. is this harming me? is this normalising my own suffering?is this integrating my illness INTO my personality in a way which makes me think i cant live without it? are my posts harming others? question your oversharing, find the validation youre seeking in yourself not in others.
