do you have any tips for drawing clones?

Okay I tried doing something really quickly, I know there are other artists that have clone guides that are amazing and I really used those as a reference to draw them, but I couldn’t find any right now!

Artists, please feel free to add anything! And to let me know if there’s something I’m missing, there’s always room for improvement!!

I think the most important thing is to look at Temuera Morrison references, I use this drive folder someone shared with LOTS of Tem’s references that is amazing

As for how I draw them, I think these are the top 4 things to have in mind: jawline, nose, eyebrows and hair

I like to do their jawlines really round shaped:

For the nose, I work with this weird “w” shape, I do it with every character nose, but with clones it’s a really wide shape

Here’s two examples on my art with the round jaw and nose shape:

The eyebrows have this pointy shape at the end, I make it more or less accentuated depending on the facial expression (less if it’s more relaxed and more if they’re frowning)

And last, curly hair!! You can even make it with a flat color, just make the shape bouncy! (I can’t add more pics 😭)

And please don’t whitewash them 💖

i hate that every time i look for color studies and tips to improve my art and make it more dynamic and interesting all that comes up are rudimentary explanations of the color wheel that explain it to me like im in 1st grade and just now discovering my primary colors

with specifically the highlights and colors being hues that compliment each other, don’t distract from the scene, and make it more interesting/visually appealing

This one's more for palette building but I think it's useful and can be applied to the other ones

Cohesion within compositions/lighting

"Chromatic fringe" - I also see people using this with shading, they bring in a transition color that is a different hue than the base color or shadow, it makes it so that less vibrancy is lost and it doesn't get muddy!

This one specifically has a lot of process behind the style of painting you're looking for!

Also one of my favorite artists who makes bright and colorful art like this is Not Sorry Art on TikTok & YouTube, her website is here and it's<3 my fav. She has some videos where you can see her process

With the oranges painting you put as an example, I noticed they painted the lighter values more toward yellow - they also exaggerated the hues of the undertones of the photo, so I'm guessing they either did it in their head or bumped the saturation up to get a closer look! I really love these paintings you shared and I definitely share your desire to paint/draw like that :)

Seen a couple posts on the dashboard lately about writing with ADHD. So, for the ADHD and neurodivergent folks who like writing but struggle sometimes… check out StimuWrite.

You can set it to make little sounds as you type (or leave them off), and emojis pop up in the corner. You can change the background, dark and light themes, set your word goal, and it gives you a percentage and total word count at the bottom. Though it’s more meant for getting a draft written up, so it doesn’t have spell check or anything like that. You’re meant to just copy and past what you write here into Google Docs or Word or Scrivener or whatever else you use and go from there. Honestly love it when I’m struggling to get words down, though. And apparently there’s an update now for StimuWrite 2?👀

Anyways, give it a try if it looks like it may help. It’s currently name-your-own-price.
