do you have any tips for drawing smoke affects?

Oh, hi! I assume this is about the effects I used in my last post- to be honest, just find a good digital brush on an art software to mess with and figure out a look you like.

The effect I made was entirely one texture brush I have with its size scaled up, and I use that brush for a lot of things; smoke/fog, moss, weathering, dirt, clouds, shading, and lighting mostly. It took me a while to find it, until then I was just experimenting with brushes and their settings to make what I needed, and that’s a big part of making art in general. Experiment with your resources! It’s fun, gives you practice, and you’ll find your own style to things along the way ^v^

If you don’t have an art software/app, there’s plenty of free ones available. I use Autodesk Sketchbook.

If you want to make a smoke effect with traditional art, I’m not as good at it but I have taken a few classes. Using pencils, try making areas where you want the smoke to be, and smudge it in the direction you want it to flow with a tissue or your finger. A tissue gives you more control over the smudging and makes less of a mess, but the oils on your hands smudge pencils/colored pencils further and smooth it out better. Graphite pencils smudge way easier than most colored ones. It’s really up to how you want to do it.

Here’s a design of GingerBrave for my AU, literally called ‘The Suffering’. Strawberry and Wizard are coming soon, and once they’re done I’ll probably make a post explaining The Suffering itself.

For now though, the AU introduces a new threat to the world that can and will affect anyone, and will acknowledge the Bravegang’s horrific trauma. As a plus, The Suffering makes its users into ridiculous powerhouses if they can keep it under control, so that explains why these traumatized kids are fighting in the front lines in this AU.

And before anyone points out that he looks like The Ultimate Cookie- I know, that’s a fully intentional detail of the AU :>
