Hi hello! If my silly drawings have ever made you smile, maybe consider donating to my Kofi page? I got a few vet bills in the future I'm worried about and it would help give me a little more time to focus on making fun art! Support your local robot clown Korean butch with chronic pain! Thank you 🤖👍💖
Honestly, I don't get people who are like "I love IDW1 Prowl but I hate that they made him a machiavellian, power-abusing asshole", like those are his defining traits??? What else is there to like?? "I like this character except for his narrative role and his personality", "I like lemonade except for the fact that it has lemon". Most blatant case of making up a guy in your head and giving him a canon character's face.
No looking it up, which of the following did not happen in the first IDW Transformers continuity (IDW1, the comics published between 2005-18, includes stuff like the -ion series, Wreckers saga, Mtmte, the Hasbroverse, etc.)?
A Transformer first gets brainwashed to think he's an entirely different Transformer and later gets his mind mixed with that of a human
Marissa is accused of kiling someone and wearing them as an outfit
Megatron gets possessed by a Quintesson and Optimus has to exorcise him by flashing his tits (opening his chest to show the Matrix)
Sky-byte's disillusionment with the Decepticons first started because Megatron wouldn't give his poetry comments
Optimus Prime first attempt at a governing body after Zeta Prime's death lasted so little Megatron didn't even get to fight it
The Decepticons want Starscream as their leader because when he inevitably lies and cheats them, they won't be dissapointed
A secret US government organization donated Soundwave to goodwill
Swindle gave Hot Rod the name Rodimus
Rumble and frenzy start a weapon trafficking operation on Earth while disguised as humans who look like the Pulp Fiction guys
Technology is said to be bootleg magic which is why Transformers die if they come into contact with the real thing
The answer is 4. Sky-byte's disillusionment with the Decepticons first started because Megatron wouldn't give his poetry comments. That's not true.
Sky-byte is introduced in exRID #5 already having defected from the Decepticons along time ago. Ironhide says about him that he used to know a guy who did poetry but "couldn't stand it here. Had to leave". Further conversations with Ironhide and Swindle imply he left millions of years ago probably due to the brutality that the Constructicons displayed at Varas Centralus, not for anything relating to poetry, To my recollection we aren't given more info on why he defected, but he certainly never asked Megatron for feedback on his art. I made that up.
Congrats to everyone to got it right!! For anyone confused here's explanations for everything under the cut:
1. A Transformer first gets brainwashed to think he's an entirely different Transformer and later gets his mind mixed with that of a human
This happened to my friend Centurion. In Revolutionaries, we learn that back in the day his ship was crashed by Shockwave who then messed with the memories of the whole crew and made them think they were major Autobot and Decepticon characters so they would fight and Shockwave could study teh war because a man needs hobbies, I guess. Then they all went out of comission for millenia until Centurion and others are awakened and he is actually the Bumblebee from Hearts of Steel. Eventually he remembers he's not actually Bumblebee, has a major crisis, works for a villian and at the end of Revolutionaries the comic's all-purpose plot device, The Talisman, gives him a copy of Mike Power's mind. AKA Atomic Man. Because he could use major another identity crisis.
(Optimus Prime: First Strike)
2. Marissa is accused of kiling someone and wearing them as an outfit.
Circuit doesn't understand human fashion lingo (First Strike #1)
3. Megatron gets possessed by a Quintesson and Optimus has to exorcise him by flashing his tits (opening his chest to show the Matrix)
Following Megatron's defeat during Autocracy, at the start of Monstrosity Scorponok and Starscream throw his injured self into the trash planet Junkion. While making his way out, Megatron finds an immobile Quintesson named Pentius. Megatron uses Pentius as a guide and later rips out his spark and keeps it with him for his own purposes. At the end of Monstrosity Megatron gets back to Cybertron and inserts Pentius' spark into Trypticon. Then Primacy shows us this idea was stupid as all fuck because Pentius remains connected to Megatron and had been using him this whole time (shocking) and is now using Trypticon to terrorize Cybertron, but luckily they use that same connection to get rid of Pentius by Optimus pulling his signature move (Primacy #4)
Btw this is the only instance of a Quintesson showing up in the entire IDW1 continuity, other than some paintings that depict them.
5. Optimus Prime first attempt at a governing body after Zeta Prime's death lasted so little Megatron didn't even get to fight it
Least popular choice alongside 1, you people are so mean to my blorbo dearest. You don't think him capable of running a goverment and you're right for it. During Monstrosity Optimus sets up the Grand Convocation to try to have a goverment that will represent all kinds of Cybertronians. Then the the thing starts falling apart for the rest of the series bc Decepticon intervention causes people to start leaving the planet en masse. Then during the first issue of Primacy the goverment is now called the Conclave of Representatives. However, Megatron was not on Cybertron during most of Monstrosity for reasons stated above, so he himself never got a chance to act against the Grand Convocation, a fact that even the wiki point out.
6. The Decepticons want Starscream as their leader because when he inevitably lies and cheats them, they won't be dissapointed
Yeah, this happens in Optimus Prime #20
7. A secret US government organization donated Soundwave to goodwill
In spotlight Soundwave we learn that he had been following Bludgeon on Megatron's order and in 1984 Soundwave and his casettes confronted him in his base, which ended with Soundwave being stuck in alt-mode. Later the then-secret Skywatch found the base and renovated it for their own research. Next thing we know of Soundwave is that a teen 2007 sees it in a nameless store in Oregon and wants to purchase him bc it's retro. Later Revolutionaries #7 fills the gap with this:
8. Swindle gave Hot Rod the name Rodimus
Neither the Matrix nor Optimus renamed Hot Rod and he neverl held the title of Prime. Rodimus was something Swindle came up with when he was trying to butter Hot Rod up in Transformers 2009 (the Costa ongoing) #4. And it works.
9. Rumble and frenzy start a weapon trafficking operation on Earth while disguised as humans who look like the Pulp Fiction guys
In Optimus Prime there's a side plot about human civilians somehow getting their hands on Cybertronian weaponry and in issue #12 the trails eventually leads to Rumble and Frenzy using holomatter avatars to sell the goods.
10. Technology is said to be bootleg magic which is why Transformers die if they come into contact with the real thing
Okay, I really honestly thought I was putting this one down as a sort fo freebie bc everyone knows this. Like, I know people didn't read First Strike or Visionaries, but I kinda thought Transformers being allergic to magic was memed enough that people were aware of it (it's even referenced in Optimus Prime). How come this is the most popular choice?? Then again, I thought the same about the Rodimus one so goes to show what I know.
Anyway, this is what Merklynn/Krieger says on the matter in First Strike #0
He then kills Blitzwing with the Talisman to prove his point. Later he uses the Talisman to poison all of Cybertron's energon supply, making it inedible for Cybertronians.
And you may think, "well that's just the Talisman, which can do whatever the plot needs it to do". Transformers vs Visionaries #1 shows us regular Visionaries magic will do, by killing Kup
This is why Starscream "dies" in Unicron #6 when activating the Talisman.
I did cheat a little by wording the statement like that because that's only what Merklynn says, and being a villain he is biased, Wheeljack does offer more insight on this phenomena in Transformers vs Visionaries #3
(Don't ask about Breakdown's face).
Anyway, thank you all for playing!!! Read Revolutionaries, read First Strike, don't read Visionaries.
