So you ARE NOT obligated to be an evil greedy capitalist in every situation? Interesting🤔 a certain billionaire could never relate to this level of humility and discernment
Taydrunk is back, annoying everyone around her. Looks like she's on the vodka again.
i hate that taylor's so deeply ingrained into pop culture now that she's unavoidable. she was referenced in 'off campus', five below sells a bunch of unofficial crap, all of her songs are played to death on the radio even though some of them i think are only liked by stans (i say this as an ex stan who didn't like "karma" or "fortnight" until i heard them 500 times), interviewers ask people about her when she has nothing to do with anything, her stans make everything other people do about her (see olivia), toy story is all about her now...
i need kingsley to come back and call her overexposed (except he couldn't because no one's allowed to say anything about taylor unless they're gushing over her). there are other celebrities that i don't like but they're not shoved down my throat the way taylor is. it is almost incapable to be neutral about her when you can't get a break from her. it is actively making me loathe her.
reposting my Reddit reply here:
(op's comment) Even though I’m in the same life stage, [TLOAS] didn’t have the same peering into my soul feeling as other albums. One of the things that I feel isn’t talked about enough is how Taylor writes love songs that are really just about herself at the end of the day. We learn more about her and how she sees herself than we learn about her love/relationship in “Anti-hero”, "The Archer", and “mirrorball.” Showgirl though is actually mostly love songs where we learn specifically how she feels about her relationship and the specific person she is with, but we don’t get songs that explore herself more.
That kind of insight is exactly what's missing. I think that's why the album sounded so generic to me. The first few lines of "King of My Heart", "Enchanted", and the majority of "Begin Again" for example let you know exactly how Taylor's doing. They're all love (/infatuation) songs, all from different albums, and yet they all paint a picture of her state of mind. People have criticized Taylor for 'only writing about breakups' but there's a reason so many people relate to her lyrics. I didn't even date as a teenager but you know who I was listening to every single day?
There was a speech she gave at one of her shows during the RED tour. It was something like, "People are like, 'All she writes about are boys and breakups.' No, I write about things I find romantic and magical. I think being in a new city can be romantic. I think being on your own and being happy can be romantic." She's very good at making the mundane sound beautiful but, even on a song like "Wi$h Li$t", it's not there this time for me.
just remembered taylor's red era soundtrack songs. "safe & sound", "eyes open", and "sweeter than fiction" were my safe havens at the time. school sucked and i would come home and listen to them to feel better. truly kept me alive.
some of my favorite lyrics from those songs:
when all those shadows almost killed your light
the entire chorus of "safe & sound"
hold on to this lullaby even when the music's gone
the tricky thing is yesterday we were just children / playing soldiers, just pretending / dreaming dreams with happy endings / [...] but now we've stepped into a cruel world where everybody stands and keeps score
they never thought you'd make it this far
but you got something they don't
someday you won't remember this pain you thought would last forever (i want this tattooed on my body after hearing that lyric again)
proved me right when you proved them wrong
i'll be one of the many saying, "look at you now, look at you now, now" / i'll be one of the many saying, "you made us proud, you made us proud, proud"

i like reading the travisandtaylor sub but i can't stand how many people say she's ghostwritten every single song she's ever released. there are unreleased songs from when taylor was like 12. she has recorded herself writing songs (videos and voice memos). there are handwritten versions of her lyrics. sure, she could've gone through an insane amount of effort since she was a preteen to convince people she's an amazing writer or maybe she became successful for a reason. it irks me that they'll be like, "oh, these lyrics are clunky? must've been the only songs taylor's written herself." either she has access to the best ghostwriters in the world and uses them or she writes her own songs. you can't have it both ways. there are legitimate things to criticize her for without having to invent ways to discredit her.
the 1989 era was so FUN. i miss it. i miss seeing new candids of taylor's outfits. yeah, it was probably a conscious branding decision, but the crop tops and co-ord sets were so fun because they were easily to emulate.
seeing candids of taylor now isn't the same. i'm either thinking about her company/her destination (i.e. my disdain for travis and the mahomes) or thinking about her fillers. can she just like... go out in something cute, not as bougie, leave her face alone, and not try so hard to be sexy?
she was for the preppy basic bitches (affectionate). you used to be able to buy things she wore at urban outfitters, modcloth, clothes you could buy from nordstrom (alice + olivia, french connection), asos, topshop, etc. a bunch of her purses were from aldo. not super, super cheap but she wasn't wearing pretty much exclusively expensive designer brands.
i don't feel like adding a bunch of pictures but here's a link to some of her outfits during the 1989 era. do i just miss 2015 fashion? she pulled off plaid and grid lines so well. i also thought her haircut was so cute and i got my hair cut like hers once.

taylor + romance
i think i'm in the minority by actually liking ttpd. it took me several months after it was released to listen to it. i thought the singles sucked and midnights as an album is so forgettable, so i had no interest in listening to ttpd. but god, even in that poorly received album, taylor was capable of romance. i thought "fortnight" was so boring until i heard the album and it made me appreciate the lyrics. can relate to "down bad". it's clear "how did it end" is so personal to her and still affects her. people shit on "so high school" but even ~sonically~, it's romantic.
in tloasg, it all sounds so hollow. there are barely any specifics that you'd come to expect from taylor's writing. the only one that comes to mind is that dig at kayla being on her phone. i already had the impression that taylor was more in love with the idea of dating the quarterback (figuratively) than travis himself. this album cemented that.
in her past albums and even eras, taylor did romance effortlessly. there's something so inherently romantic about the red era. at the time, i think taylor was pretty open about being lonely and wasn't actively trying to prove she was well-liked. it's such a wistful album, the "begin again" music video had taylor walking around by herself, and taylor's candid style felt very 'her' and intricate. one of her more popular lyrics from 1989 was, "say you'll remember me, standing in a nice dress, staring at the sunset. red lips and rosy cheeks..." she was so good at evoking a sense of nostalgia. the only thing that still draws me to reputation is how romantic some of the songs are.
this is what i mean by the red era looking romantic btw. if you get it, you get it. like, there's just a certain sense of sadness and loneliness (that i may or may not be projecting).
does anyone remember using the reputation disillusionment tag or something like that? i want to check the old posts.
hellooo. i started to slowly take the blinders off during the rep era, but it wasn't until the past few years that i actually became critical of her. her engagement to travis was the final straw for me. i used to check the travisandtaylor subreddit frequently so i'm used to this side of things. however, i wanted to make a place to share things i miss about who i thought she was. if you're a former fan, you might be able to relate.
