When I was in the 7th grade, I got bullied a lot. There was this cute geeky kid I went to middle school with named Mark Perez. He sat next to me in my classes for two years, and he had the cutest crush on me. He was absolutely one of the nicest kids in that class and always stood up against my bullies, even though it made him a target too. He didn’t care what anyone thought though, Marky Mark had a smile for everybody.      That was five years ago. Two weeks ago, we graduated from high school. Everyone had bright and beautiful plans for the future. But Mark and I have always lived in a bad area. Two nights ago I heard gunshots a couple streets down from mine. Earlier today, he died in the hospital from his wounds. Seeing his face on the news broke my heart. They called him an 18 year old man, murdered in a drive-by shooting. But Mark wasn’t a man. We’re just kids who barely graduated high school. And now he’s gone.

I know most of you guys are going to ignore this. Mark and I come from a poor area, and the funeral costs are a huge burden on his family. I know you guys don’t know Mark, and have no reason really to care, but could you please just spare a few dollars to help cover the memorial costs? Anything helps, even if it’s just 50 cents.
