I really think historical USAmerican queer activism shat the bed by focusing on marriage equality and not bodily autonomy

It wasn't really a 'mistake' per se, except in thinking the majority of wealthy gays funding it actually had any solidarity. They sought marriage rights bc legal marriage is an important financial instrument, once they were secure in their positions it was right back to class solidarity above all.

Marriage as a legal-financial contract is a scam. Unmarried people deserve all the rights and protections afforded to married people. You should be able to name whoever you want as your primary inheritor, as someone you trust with your medical decisions, as someone you share property with. Marriage boxes out disabled people and polyamorous people as it still exists today.

Marriage as a romantic concept and marriage as a legal-financial framework should have no bearing on each other. You should have to right to associate legally and financially with whoever and however many people you want.

Individual bodily autonomy should've been the priority from the start. Marriage as a class barrier should've been dismantled.
